Definitions
- the invention relates to a relay base of an electromagnetic relay with connection elements embedded in a plane in a flat insulating body, from which contact elements are bent up to the top of the insulating body and emerge at the top thereof and from which connecting lugs are guided outwards.
- connection lugs extend in the form of pins perpendicular to the connection plane of the relay, so that they can be inserted into bores in a printed circuit board or in sleeve-shaped receiving elements of a jack.
- connection elements for contacting on printed circuit boards (e.g. DE-A 3 104 623).
- parts of the housing surface are used as connection elements.
- this known way of using housing surfaces for contacting is not readily applicable.
- the object of the invention is to provide a relay base of an electromagnetic relay with flat contacts, the relay structure can otherwise remain in a conventional manner and the overall height is not increased by the flat contacts.
- this object is achieved with a base of the type mentioned at the outset in that the connecting lugs run with their free ends in a direction parallel to the underside of the insulating body.
- the connecting lugs run with their free ends in a direction parallel to the underside of the insulating body.
- the latter can be bent outwards parallel to this underside, it being expedient that the connection lugs emerge approximately in the middle third of the underside surface of the socket, so that the free ends do not protrude beyond the edge. If the connection lugs emerge from the base in the vicinity of the outer edge, they are expediently bent inwards.
- recesses can be provided in the base base for the connecting lugs, the depth of which, however, is less than the material thickness of the connecting lugs. The latter measure ensures that the connections lie in any case on the conductor track of a circuit board.
- the base can also be designed so that the connecting lugs emerge laterally in the embedding level. In an expedient embodiment, these connecting lugs are then bent down into the area of the base underside. But it is also possible to let the connecting lugs run with their free ends directly in the embedding plane. In this case, however, it must be ensured that the circuit board in which the corresponding relay is to be mounted has a recess for the base body. Since the circuit board is not passed through a solder bath when assembling components with surface contacts or the surface-contacting components are only subsequently applied to the circuit board, such recesses are also not harmful to the relay to be used afterwards.
- the magnet system mentioned is placed on a base 9 formed as an Isoller material body and covered with a cap 10 after assembly.
- Contact elements and possibly also coil connection elements are embedded in the base, these connection elements being cut out of a circuit board to achieve the smallest possible height and injected in the plane of the circuit board.
- the contact elements 11 and 12 and the contact spring carrier 13 are each bent upward from the plane of the board, while the associated connecting lugs 14 emerge laterally in the example according to FIG. 1 or in other embodiments on the underside of the base. Contrary to the previous relay designs, these connection lugs are not guided in the form of pins perpendicular to the underside, but are designed as flat contacts.
- Fig. 2 shows in section the base 9 with connection elements 15 embedded in one plane, which are cut from a circuit board in this embedding plane. From the embedding level are the g of the individual connection elements 15 already Fi. 1 shown contact elements 11 and 12 bent upwards.
- the underside terminal lugs 17 are bent perpendicular to the embedding plane, which emerge from the underside of the base 9 and are bent along this underside in a direction parallel to the connecting plane to form flat contacts 18.
- the flat contacts 18 are bent inwards so that they lie completely below the base and do not increase the width of the relay. With these flat contacts 18, the Re lais placed on contact surfaces of a circuit board 19. As in the case of other components with surface contacts, contact is made by heating the contact surface material provided on the printed circuit board.
- FIG. 3 shows a base with a similar structure as in Fig. 2.
- the terminal lugs 17 are led down in the middle third of the base 9, the flat contacts 18 are then bent outwards.
- appropriate dimensioning of the flat contacts 18 ensures that they do not protrude beyond the outer edge of the base 9 and could thus increase the width of the relay.
- FIG. 3 furthermore shows the possibility of placing the flat contacts 18 in recesses 20 in the base base, as a result of which the overall height can be reduced.
- the depth of the cutouts 20 is in any case less than the thickness of the flat contacts 18.
- Corresponding cutouts 20 could of course also be provided in the embodiment of FIG. 2 in the same way.
- FIG. 4 shows another embodiment of a base 9, with connection lugs 14 emerging laterally from the connection elements 15 in the embedding plane from the base 9, as in FIG. 1. Outside the base, these connecting lugs 14 are bent downward, so that the flat contacts 21 rest on a printed circuit board 19 at the level of the underside of the base.
- connection elements 15 are provided with flat contacts 22, which are formed in the embedding plane as straight extensions of the embedded connection elements 15.
- a very low installation height in the printed circuit board 19 can be achieved if the printed circuit board 19 has a recess 23 the size of the base 9.
- the base 9 is thus placed in the recess 23, the laterally projecting flat contacts 22 then coming to rest on the conductor tracks or contact surfaces of the printed circuit board 19.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a relay base of an electromagnetic relay with connection elements embedded in a plane in a flat insulating body, from which contact elements are bent up to the top of the insulating body and emerge at the top thereof and from which connecting lugs are guided outwards.
Such a relay base is described, for example, in DE-A 3 232 380. There, as in the case of other known relays, the connection lugs extend in the form of pins perpendicular to the connection plane of the relay, so that they can be inserted into bores in a printed circuit board or in sleeve-shaped receiving elements of a jack.
DE-A 3 104 623). With other components, such as resistors and the like, it is already common to provide flat connection elements for contacting on printed circuit boards (e.g. DE-A 3 104 623). With this so-called planar connection technology, parts of the housing surface are used as connection elements. However, these are components, such as resistors, which generally have only two connection elements. In the case of components with a larger number of contact connections, as represented by relays, this known way of using housing surfaces for contacting is not readily applicable.
The object of the invention is to provide a relay base of an electromagnetic relay with flat contacts, the relay structure can otherwise remain in a conventional manner and the overall height is not increased by the flat contacts.
According to the invention, this object is achieved with a base of the type mentioned at the outset in that the connecting lugs run with their free ends in a direction parallel to the underside of the insulating body. In the case of relay sockets with connection lugs emerging on the underside, the latter can be bent outwards parallel to this underside, it being expedient that the connection lugs emerge approximately in the middle third of the underside surface of the socket, so that the free ends do not protrude beyond the edge. If the connection lugs emerge from the base in the vicinity of the outer edge, they are expediently bent inwards. In order to keep the overall height as low as possible, recesses can be provided in the base base for the connecting lugs, the depth of which, however, is less than the material thickness of the connecting lugs. The latter measure ensures that the connections lie in any case on the conductor track of a circuit board.
The base can also be designed so that the connecting lugs emerge laterally in the embedding level.
- 1 is a relay with a base designed according to the invention in an exploded view,
- 2 and 3 two different base designs with flat contacts provided on the underside in section,
- Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 two base designs with laterally emerging terminal lugs, also in section.
- 1 shows, by way of example only, a relay with a base designed according to the invention. The magnet system consists of a coil former 1 with a winding 2, two yokes 4 and 5 to be inserted into the coil former with an intermediate permanent magnet 6, and also an armature 7 and a
contact slide 8. The closer structure of the relay is described, for example, in the aforementioned DE-A 3,232,380.
The magnet system mentioned is placed on a
Fig. 2 shows in section the
Fig. 3 shows a base with a similar structure as in Fig. 2. In contrast to this previous embodiment, the
Another possible embodiment for flat contacting of a relay is shown in FIG. 5. Here, the
