Abstract

A felting of synthetic fibers having an embossed pattern that forms depressions in at least one surface of the felting is disclosed. The surface of the felting with depressions contains, in at least the area of the depressions, a layer of small hollow spheres that are bonded to one another and to the felting by means of a binding agent. The layer of hollow spheres fills up, at least partially, the depressions in the surface of the felting produced by embossing. This reinforces and strengthens the thinner areas of felting in the vicinity of these depressions. When the reinforced felting is applied to a shoe upper, for example, the resulting upper has improved stiffness and strength. Furthermore, the excessive penetration of adhesive into the felting, which can cause a spotty or uneven appearance of the reinforced upper, is prevented. Resistance to splitting and separating is likewise improved.

Description

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Vlies aus Kunststofffasern der im Oberbegriff des Anspruchs 1 genannten Art.The invention relates to a nonwoven made of plastic fibers of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1.

Nonwovens of the type in question are frequently used as linings for shoes, in particular sports shoes, the upper of which is made of leather, in order to strengthen the upper leather, to compensate for weak spots in the upper leather and to achieve a better standing of the shoes overall. A fleece used for this purpose must also be permeable to water vapor and air.

A known fleece of the type in question, which is provided on the back with a heat-activatable adhesive, has the disadvantage that the heat-activatable adhesive tends to penetrate deeply into the fleece when it is bonded under heat and pressure, as a result of which it is lost for the bond and there is also the risk that the adhesive will penetrate so far, especially in thin areas of the nonwoven, that the nonwoven is more transparent there than in thicker areas, which has the consequence that the differently colored background to which the nonwoven is glued, e.g. B. a leather or synthetic leather back, shines through and creates a spotty or uneven appearance overall.

The invention has for its object to avoid these disadvantages and to create a fleece of the type in question, which is able to bring about a reinforcement of the upper leather and a better state of the shoes when applied to the back of upper leather or the like and weak spots to compensate in the upper leather without giving the fleece an uneven or spotty appearance after fastening, while at the same time being flexible, light, soft and permeable to water vapor and air.

The object on which the invention is based is achieved by the teaching specified in the characterizing part of claim 1.

The layer of hollow spheres provided according to the invention has the particular task of at least partially filling in the depressions formed in the surface of the nonwoven, as a rule by embossing under heat and pressure, and of reinforcing the nonwoven areas which are thinner in the area of these depressions. This reinforcement not only leads to the desired increased strength and thus to the ability to increase the rigidity when applied e.g. on the inside of a shoe leather, but also prevents penetration of the adhesive, in particular the hot melt adhesive, into the fleece and thus an uneven shining through of a differently colored base, e.g. B. the upper leather. In addition, it has been shown that the splitting and rubbing properties are improved.

The layer of small hollow spheres can completely or partially fill the depressions in the surface of the fleece. In principle, it is entirely possible within the scope of the invention to provide a layer according to the invention on both sides of the nonwoven, in particular if there are also depressions in the surface on both sides. In the area of the raised areas between the depressions, the layer of small hollow spheres can be very thin, it can even be omitted there entirely, but it will usually also be present there for manufacturing reasons.

In order to ensure the water vapor and air permeability of the layer of small hollow spheres, it is expedient if the binder for the hollow spheres has gaps throughout. This can be achieved in a simple manner by metering the binder appropriately and carefully. If, according to a development of the invention, the layer of small hollow spheres is provided with a layer of adhesive, then this also expediently has gaps for the same purpose.

A particularly expedient development of the invention is that the hollow spheres consist of thermoplastic material. This makes it possible to use a hot and smooth roller to deform the small thermoplastic hollow spheres and thus smooth the surface of the fleece. In order to avoid that the fleece itself is deformed when it is made of thermoplastic material, it is expedient for the melting point of the thermoplastic hollow spheres to be lower than that of the material of the fleece.

Further advantageous developments and details of the invention result from the subclaims and from the following description of an exemplary embodiment.

The drawing shows a partial section through an exemplary embodiment according to the invention, in which a fleece 1 made of thermoplastic fibers has depressions 2 and 3 on both surfaces, which are formed by hot stamping in the region of the depressions, so as to bond the thermoplastic fibers of the fleece to one another or to weld. Thin areas 4 of the fleece 1 are thus formed in the region of the depressions 2 and 3.

On the surface of the fleece 1 having the depressions 2 there is a layer of small hollow spheres 5 made of vinylidene chloride copolymer which are bonded to one another and to the fleece 1 by means of a binder 6 such that free, continuous spaces are formed between the small hollow spheres 5 . The layer of small hollow spheres 5 largely fills the depressions 2 and is only very thin in the region of the raised points 7 between the depressions 2. On the side of the layer of hollow spheres 5 facing away from the fleece 1 there is a layer 8 of hot-melt adhesive which forms a point-like pattern.

2. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the layer of small hollow spheres (5) fills up wholly or partially the depressions (2) in the surface of the fleece (1).
3. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the layer of small hollow spheres (5) in the region of the raised places (7) between the depressions (2) does not essentially project beyond the fibres ofthe fleece (1).
4. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the binder (6) exhibits interstices passing through in such a way that it is permeable to air and moisture.
5. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that on the side of the layer of small hollow spheres (5) remote from the fleece (1) a layer of adhesive, in particular of fusion adhesive (8), is arranged.
6. A fleece as in Claim 5, characterized in that the layer of adhesive (8) exhibits interstices passing through in such a way that it is permeable to air and moisture.
7. A fleece as in Claim 6, characterized in that the layer of adhesive (8) forms a pattern of dots or stripes or after the style of a raster.
8. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the layer (8) of fusion adhesive consists of a copolyamide or polyvinylacetate or of a modified polyester.
9. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the hollow spheres (5) consist of thermoplastic material , in particular of vinylidene chloride co- polymerizate.
10. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the binder (6) consists of a consolidate soft plastics dispersion or plastics emulsion, preferably of polyethylene, polyisobutylene, polyvinyl acetate, polyurethane, polybutadiene or polyacrylate or exhibits these substances.
11. A fleece as in Claim 1, characterized in that the fleece (1) consists of polypropylene fibres.
12. A fleece as in Claim 1 or 8, characterized in that the fleece (1) has a weight per unit area of less than 105g/m2.
13. A fleece as in Claim 5, characterized in that the fleece (1) inclusive of the layer of small hollow spheres (5) and the layer (8) of adhesive has a weight per unit area of less than 230 g/m2.
14. A fleece as in Claim 9, characterized in that the melting point of the hollow spheres (5) consisting of thermplastic material is lower than the melting point of the fleece (1) consisting of thermoplastic material.
