  • - daß bei einem Querschnitt des Vorschaltgerätes von etwa 28 x 28 mm das Kernpaket aus zwei gleich großen U-förmigen Teilen mit sich konisch öffnenden Schrägflächen an den Innenseiten der Schenkel und einem die Wicklung tragenden I-förmigen Mittelteil mit den Schrägflächen entsprechenden dachförmigen Keilflächen an den Stirnseiten besteht,
  • - daß eines der U-förmigen Teile des Kernpakets in dem U-förmigen Vorschaltgeräteboden und das andere U-förmige Teil des Kernpakets in dem U-förmigen Haubenteil sitzt,
  • - wobei das Haubenteil mit dem Vorschaltgeräteboden nach dem Zusammenpressen der Kernpaketteile unter kraftschlüssiger Halterung der Wicklung zwischen diesen verbunden ist,
  • - und daß die Höhe der Wickelfenster 1/6 bis 1/8 der entsprechenden Außenabmessung des Kernpakets ist.

1. Ballast for gas-discharge lamps with a core stack which is assembled in enclosed form, laminated in the longitudinal direction of the core, held between a U-shaped ballast base (9) and a U-shaped top part (10) and comprises two symmetrically arranged winding apertures (1) , characterised in that
- with a ballast cross-section of approximately 28 x 28 mm, the core stack consists of 2 U-shaped parts (2), which are of the same side and have inclined surfaces (4), which open in a conical manner, at the inner surfaces of the side pieces, and an I-shaped central part (3), which carries the winding (11) and has roof-shaped wedge surfaces (5), corresponding to the inclined surfaces (4), at the front ends,
- that one of the U-shaped parts (2) of the core stack is disposed in the U-shaped ballast base (9) and the other U-shaped part (2) of the core stack is disposed in the U-shaped top part (10),
- the top part (10) being connected to the ballast base (9) after the core stack parts (2, 3) have been pressed together, with the winding (11) being held between these in a non-positive manner,
- and that the height (a) of the winding apertures (1) is 1/6 to 1/8 of the corresponding external dimension (A) of the core stack.
2. Ballast according to claim 1, characterised in that the height (a) of the winding apertures (1) is 1/6.47 to 1/6.82 of the corresponding external dimension (A) of the core stack.
3. Ballast according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that air-gap inserts (6), which are known per se, of an insulating material or metal are arranged between the inclined-surfaces (4) of the U-shaped parts (2) and the wedge surfaces (5) of the I-shaped central part (3).

Ballast according to one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that one of the U-shaped parts (2) of the core stack comprises longitudinal recesses (7) in the corner area in the outer surfaces of the side pieces in which the U-shaped ballast base (9) is disposed with its outer walls flush with the outer surfaces of the side pieces, and that the U-shaped top part (10) engages by means of its side walls over the side walls (8) of the ballast base (9).
