Definitions
- the present invention relates to a surface convolver arrangement as specified in the preamble of patent claim 1.
- a mixed product of these input signals can be generated in the area of the integration electrode, which, as indicated in the figure, is taken from the integration electrode can.
- a prerequisite for the occurrence of such a mixed product is that there is a nonlinear property in the region of the integration electrode for the acoustic waves running there and generated by the respective input converter. This means that the input transducers, for example comparable to other surface wave arrangements, have to generate very intense acoustic waves in the surface of the substrate in the region of the integration electrode.
- the impedance value of an input converter as used essentially results from its radiation resistance and its electrode capacitance. For this reason alone, the input converter in question cannot be dimensioned arbitrarily.
- the wave emitted by the transducer into the integration electrode must hit it as optimally as possible, i.e. H. the transmission characteristic of the converter in question must be matched to the reception characteristic of the opposite end of the integration electrode.
- this problem is solved by using input transducers together with separate jet compressors, the input transducers having a few fingers but with a very long length, so that the aperture of the input transducer is very much larger than the aperture of the Integration electrode is.
- the jet compressor mentioned is intended to adapt these very different apertures to one another.
- the finger electrodes have a uniform curvature, which is selected so that the input transducer in question has certain focusing properties for the acoustic wave generated in this transducer.
- the length of the individual interdigitally arranged fingers of the respective input converter is uniformly large. The arrangement requires a considerably large area without comparable focusing.
- Document 4 shows a convolver arrangement which is not relevant per se for the invention to be described below.
- Finger electrodes are shown there which have a finger shape instead of a straight line shape, which result in a certain finger offset.
- these fingers which are generally not rectilinear, are still rectilinear and the kinks in their shape lie outside the aperture. Kinked fingers only occur with the jet compressor.
- the input transducers have the usual straight-line design of the interdigitally arranged fingers.
- the document 5 describes a focusing electroacoustic transducer with such circular fingers that a specified focus on the common center of curvature occurs. Furthermore, this document only contains a hint to choose a contour for the fingers in which the focus is not strict is directed to a point but to a predetermined area of the surface of the crystal. There is no solution to this hint, namely which rule should be used to select the curvature of the finger.
- Document 6 describes a resonator with finger length weighted interdigital reflectors which have parabolically curved finger electrodes.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement which is improved compared to the diverse prior art and with which sufficiently intense acoustic waves can be optimally coupled into the integration electrode, there being sufficient freedom with regard to the parameters which determine the impedance.
- the edge disturbances of known designs should also be minimized.
- the invention is based on choosing a number of design variables, which can be selected independently of one another, for individual components of a convolver arrangement in such a way that the above-mentioned object is optimally achieved.
- This coordinated dimensioning of the parameters mentioned according to the invention is based on the considerations explained below, which also serve to enable the person skilled in the art to understand the invention without difficulty and to rework it with undoubted success (without having to make any further considerations).
- a continuously curved shape of the interdigitally arranged fingers of the input transducers could be provided.
- This preferred embodiment thus has fingers that have the shape of a polygon. In areas of lesser curvature of the predetermined curvature curve (to be explained in more detail below), the corresponding polygon sections can be dimensioned relatively large.
- 1 shows a merely schematic representation of a convolver according to the present invention.
- 1 designates the entire convolver arrangement, which has an integration electrode 2 and an input converter 3 and 4 each.
- the integration electrode 2 and the transducers 3 and 4 are located on the surface of a substrate 5 made of piezoelectric material, which is only shown in sections.
- Z and ⁇ x indicate axis directions of the plane coinciding with the surface of the substrate 5.
- FIG. 2 shows a section of FIG. 1, namely the right end 21 of the integration electrode 2 and the input transducer 3 opposite this end 21.
- the illustration in FIG. 2 is significantly enlarged compared to FIG. 1 and supplemented by further details.
- the input converter 3 shown in the invention is a dispersive converter in which the distances of the fingers 11 measured on the axis z are known to be non-equidistant from one another. The distances are dimensioned differently according to the respective wavelength range of the dispersion. These different finger distances for a dispersive transducer are not taken into account in FIG. 2 (in particular for the sake of clarity).
- the transducer 3 has fingers designated 11, which have an overlap with adjacent fingers 11 for at least a portion of the length of these fingers.
- This overlap length is that portion of the length in two adjacent fingers 11 for which there is an electrical interaction between these fingers and thus for the entire transducer.
- two such fingers 11 are considered as a pair of fingers, one of which is connected to one connection pad 12 and the other finger 11 is connected to the opposite polarity of the other connection pad 112.
- This alternating electrical connection of the fingers 11 to the connection pads 12 and 112 can be seen in FIG. 2.
- curvatures or polygons of the shape of the fingers 11 and their length or overlap length to be provided for the invention can be provided for all fingers 11 of a respective transducer 3, 4.
- the idea of the invention is also already realized when only a substantial number of all fingers 11 are shaped and / or dimensioned according to the invention, because individual fingers 11 which do not comply with this regulation do not prevent the effect according to the invention of the remaining plurality of fingers 11 respective converter.
- main part This means (as seen in the direction of the axis z) that portion of the transducer 3 (or 4) which has fingers 11 shaped and dimensioned according to the invention and which already provides the result according to the invention to a substantial extent.
- the main part of the converter 3 is preferably the central part of the respective converter.
- the portion of the converter 3 defined as the main part is highlighted at 14.
- the overlap lengths of the fingers 11 are optimally large enough to cover the space between the envelope curves 15. This envelope 15 will be discussed in more detail below.
- the curved shape of the fingers 11 in the main part 14 is limited to the space between the envelopes 15.
- the curvature or the respective polygon
- this is not necessary for realizing the invention and for parts of the converter 3 lying outside the envelope 15 (and also outside the curves 22 and 23), the technically simpler (kinked) straight parallel form of these outer ends is sufficient of the individual fingers 11, 13.
- FIG. 4 shows the amplitude diagram
- FIG. 4 shows the phase diagram (Amplitude and phase respectively plotted on the ordinate) plotted over the value ⁇ x.
- the parameter of the individual curves is the size z, namely the distance from the end 21 of the integration electrode 2 measured parallel to the wave propagation alignment in the arrangement (see also 1 and 2)
- the distances z are also measured in J 1. Slightly different diagrams are obtained for different frequencies, but the differences, for example in the range from 100 MHz to 500 MHz, are largely negligible for the invention.
- the curvature of the wavefront i. H. essentially the diagram of the phase curve, authoritative.
- the wave fronts are locations of the same phase of the advancing wave.
- a 1 is the complex amplitude according to FIG. 3 for the wave in question at a distance lxi from the z-axis.
- FIG. 1 shows for a further explanation of this overlap integral, reference is made to FIG. 1, in which the wave profile already mentioned, which results from the waveguide, is reproduced one above the other and belonging together in the upper half.
- the lower half shows for the near field the wave profile of the overlap length W n of a pair (s) of fingers (11), which is a rectangular profile with the amplitude a 2 .
- the overlap integral is plotted in FIG. 6, specifically over the overlap length w.
- the individual fingers 11 can also be designed as known split fingers.
- the overlap lengths on the two sides of a split finger can then be selected independently of one another.

An arrangement with the features of the preamble of
With a convolver arrangement as described above and also with other convolver arrangements, each time an input signal that is applied to the relevant input converter is input, a mixed product of these input signals can be generated in the area of the integration electrode, which, as indicated in the figure, is taken from the integration electrode can. A prerequisite for the occurrence of such a mixed product is that there is a nonlinear property in the region of the integration electrode for the acoustic waves running there and generated by the respective input converter. This means that the input transducers, for example comparable to other surface wave arrangements, have to generate very intense acoustic waves in the surface of the substrate in the region of the integration electrode. Accordingly, there is the problem for such convolver arrangements of being able to bring in high-intensity surface waves generated in the respective input transducer into the opposite end of the waveguide of the integration electrode. This includes the further problem of generating a high-intensity acoustic wave in the converter, with this being a precondition that the converter is optimally matched in terms of impedance to the generally given impedance value of the output of the electronic circuit to which this input converter is connected.
The impedance value of an input converter as used essentially results from its radiation resistance and its electrode capacitance. For this reason alone, the input converter in question cannot be dimensioned arbitrarily. On the other hand, the wave emitted by the transducer into the integration electrode must hit it as optimally as possible, i.e. H. the transmission characteristic of the converter in question must be matched to the reception characteristic of the opposite end of the integration electrode.
For the arrangement of FIG. 1 of
In the arrangement according to FIG. 1 of
Die Anordnung benötigt erheblich große Fläche ohne vergleichbare Fokussierung zu erbringen.1 describes a convolver arrangement with input transducers which, in contrast to
The document 5 describes a focusing electroacoustic transducer with such circular fingers that a specified focus on the common center of curvature occurs. Furthermore, this document only contains a hint to choose a contour for the fingers in which the focus is not strict is directed to a point but to a predetermined area of the surface of the crystal. There is no solution to this hint, namely which rule should be used to select the curvature of the finger.
At the beginning it was pointed out the problems which arise in a convolver arrangement from the requirement to generate high-intensity acoustic waves concentrated on a narrow aperture (the integration electrode).
The object of the present invention is to provide an arrangement which is improved compared to the diverse prior art and with which sufficiently intense acoustic waves can be optimally coupled into the integration electrode, there being sufficient freedom with regard to the parameters which determine the impedance. The edge disturbances of known designs should also be minimized.
This object is achieved for a surface wave convolver arrangement according to the preamble of
The invention is based on choosing a number of design variables, which can be selected independently of one another, for individual components of a convolver arrangement in such a way that the above-mentioned object is optimally achieved. This coordinated dimensioning of the parameters mentioned according to the invention is based on the considerations explained below, which also serve to enable the person skilled in the art to understand the invention without difficulty and to rework it with undoubted success (without having to make any further considerations).
In principle, a continuously curved shape of the interdigitally arranged fingers of the input transducers could be provided. However, it is technologically more advantageous and provides practically the same technical result, according to one embodiment of the invention, to choose the shape of the individual fingers such that they consist of straight, continuously adjoining finger pieces. This preferred embodiment thus has fingers that have the shape of a polygon. In areas of lesser curvature of the predetermined curvature curve (to be explained in more detail below), the corresponding polygon sections can be dimensioned relatively large.
In connection with finger shapes in the manner of a polygon, which, according to this embodiment, is adapted to a predetermined continuous curvature, it should also be pointed out that the position of the polygon pieces which inevitably differs from the exact course can also be included or included in the weighting of the individual fingers. With this configuration, a desired or necessary finger weighting can also be included.
- Fig. 1 eine schematische Ansicht einer Convolveranordnung,

- 3 to 6 diagrams which relate to the theoretical foundations of a design rule for the curvature curve.
1 designates the entire convolver arrangement, which has an
Like the
As can be seen from FIG. 1, the transducer 3 has fingers designated 11, which have an overlap with
With 13 in the transducer 3 existing fingers are designated. These
The curvatures or polygons of the shape of the
Another important term is “main part”. This means (as seen in the direction of the axis z) that portion of the transducer 3 (or 4) which has
It has been shown that apart from the result to be achieved according to the invention, further advantages can be achieved if the respective measure of the overlap lengths of pairs of
Auf diese Einhüllenden 15 wird im übrigen noch nachfolgend näher eingegangen.2, the portion of the converter 3 defined as the main part is highlighted at 14. In this
In the left in Fig. 2 of the
As can also be seen from FIG. 2, the curved shape of the
Mit Hilfe dieses Achsenkreuzes lassen sich mathematische Angaben zur Wahl des jeweiligen optimalen Krümmungsverlaufes der einzelnen Finger 11 und zur Länge der einzelnen Finger 11 bzw. zur Lage der Einhüllenden 15 leichter verständlich darlegen.1 and 2, the axis cross x-z lying in the plane of the arrangement or in the plane of the substrate 5 is entered, the coordinate origin of which is placed at the
According to the "angular spectrum of waves theory " calculation scheme known to the person skilled in the art, diagrams can be determined for the amplitude A and the phase (p) in the manner of FIGS. 3 and 4. FIG. 4 shows the amplitude diagram and FIG. 4 shows the phase diagram (Amplitude and phase respectively plotted on the ordinate) plotted over the value ± x. The parameter of the individual curves is the size z, namely the distance from the
For the course of curvature of the
Es ergibt sich dann für den im Abstand ±x von der z-Achse gegebenen einzelnen Ort der Wellenfront der Wert z+Az (= z'(x).There are a = 0.94 and b = 41 810 constants and z the starting point on the z-axis and + x the distance of a respective parallel to the z-axis. The size Az of the size z must be added to this parallel. The value z + Az (= z '(x)) then results for the individual location of the wavefront given at a distance of ± x from the z-axis.
In this a 1 is the complex amplitude according to FIG. 3 for the wave in question at a distance lxi from the z-axis. For a further explanation of this overlap integral, reference is made to FIG. 1, in which the wave profile already mentioned, which results from the waveguide, is reproduced one above the other and belonging together in the upper half. The lower half shows for the near field the wave profile of the overlap length W n of a pair (s) of fingers (11), which is a rectangular profile with the amplitude a 2 .
The overlap integral is plotted in FIG. 6, specifically over the overlap length w. The parameter of the family of curves is again the distance on the z-axis. It can be seen from Fig. 6 that the maximum of the overlap integral, i.e. H. the optimal overlap length for a pair of fingers for short distance, d. H. is small for small values of z. For larger distances z, there are larger optimal overlap lengths. 2, the content of the overlap integral or of the FIG. Is represented as a technical measure by the
It should be noted that the
