- the present invention relates to a sheet feeding device for printer or typewriter comprising a frame, one or more supports on which the sheets to be printed are stored in a stack, an extraction mechanism, associated with each of the supports, intended for extracting a sheet from the support for insertion into the printer, and a selection mechanism intended to activate one of the extraction mechanisms, the selection mechanism and the extraction mechanisms being driven by a drive member in two opposite directions.
- the device described in this patent includes a selection mechanism driven by the striking cylinder enabling one of the paper extraction mechanisms to be activated by first driving the striking cylinder over a predetermined distance in a first direction opposite to the introduction of the paper, reversing the direction of drive over a small predetermined distance, then driving the cylinder again in the first direction to advance the sheet to the striking cylinder and reversing the direction a third time strike cylinder drive to feed paper into the printer.
- This mode of operation is complicated.

- Le. lower edge of the sheet then emerges from the retaining members 18 and the sheet, abutting against the upper wall 17a of the cassette, forms a pocket 10.

- One end of the spiral clutch spring 68 is rigidly fixed to the socket 66, while the other end is wound around the socket 67 and has an extension 69.
- the selection arm 57 is biased by a spring 70 in a rest position, in which the finger 60 is held against a stop 71 of the guide piece 59.
- the winding of the spiral clutch spring 68 is such that the sleeves 66 and 67 are coupled, when the wheel 65 rotates in a semester direction.
- the sleeve 67 can on the other hand continue to rotate in a dextrous direction, when the selection lever 56 is stopped by the stop 71. In the case illustrated in FIG. 2, this winding of the spring 68 must therefore be dextrous.
- the extension 69 of the spring is capable of coming into contact with a stop constituted by a shaft 82 and is blocked by the latter, when the toothed wheel 65 rotates in a sinister direction. This blocking of the extension 69 has the effect of slightly opening the spring 68 wound around the sleeve 67 and of uncoupling the selection arm 57 from the drive device 61 to 65.

- the selection slide 72 and the guide tracks 73 to 75 are made up of sectors of concentric circles.
- the axis of rotation of the selection arm 57 coincides with the center of these concentric circles.
- the guide tracks 73 to 75 have openings communicating with the selection slide 72 so that the finger 60 can follow one of the guide tracks when the lever 56 is driven in the opposite direction. It is therefore the amplitude of the displacement of the lever 56 in the direction of the direction which determines the guide path followed by the finger 60.
- the feed device comprises, associated with each of the guide paths, an extraction control part. , t el that the flip-flops 76 to 78.
- flip-flops 76 to 78 are pivotally mounted on shaft 82 and cooperate with a fold with finger - 60, when the latter takes the corresponding guide track. A rotation of one. flip-flops causes the corresponding extraction mechanism to start. Solicited by a spring 79, the rocker then falls back into its rest position determined by a stop 80.
- the guide tracks 73 to 75 meet and communicate with the selection path 72 through an opening covered with an elastic blade 81 so as to allow the output of the finger 60 in direction of the rest position, but preventing any entry to this finger 60, when it is moved from right to left.
- Each of the extraction mechanisms associated with the paper supports comprises a cam 90 to 92.
- This cam is pivotally mounted around an eccentric pivot 93 on a bent arm 94 capable of pivoting around a tree -95.
- a stop 96 integral with the cam 90 cooperates with the fold 97 of the rocker 76 to prevent the cam 90 from rotating around the pivot 93.
- a spring 102 biases the bent arm 94 against a fixed stop 101 so that the periphery of the cam 90 occupies a position close to the periphery of the toothed wheel 63b, but does not touch this periphery, when the fold 97 is in contact with the stop 96.
- Each of the extraction mechanisms further comprises a lever 98 biased by a spring 99, arranged between the lever 98 and the bent arm 94, against a part 100 integral with the cam 90 so as to rotate the cam 90, when the fold 97 is released from the stop 96.
- the periphery of the cam 90 comprises a first portion 90a constituted by a toothing capable of cooperating with the toothed wheel 63b and a second smooth portion 90b capable of sliding on this toothing under the action of the spring 102.
- the end of the bent arm 94 is coupled to a pull rod 105 controlling means of separation 106 of a sheet and the positioning of the alignment stop 27.
- This alignment stop is constituted by a piece in the form of a comb fixed between two arms 107 pivoting around a shaft 108 fixed to the chassis.

- the roller 26 comprises a shaft 122 mounted on the brackets 112.
- a toothed wheel 123 secured to the shaft 122 cooperates with a toothing 124 in the form of a segment of a circle carried by one end 124 of one of the levers 110.
- the other end of this lever 110 is arranged so as to. cooperate with the finger 125 integral with the pull tab 105 to control a pivoting of the lever 110 around the shaft 111.

- the direction of drive of the cylinder is then reversed and the finger 60 follows one of the paths 73 to 75 to actuate one of the extraction control parts, constituted by the rockers 76 to 78.
- gear 62 to 65 is adapted so that it is necessary to make at least two turns of cylinder 3 in the opposite direction to the advance of the paper for a selection to be effective and like the circumference of the cylinder 3 corresponds approximately to the half-length of a sheet of A4 paper, it is in any case possible to go back with cylinder 3 to correct or complete a previously printed line, without initiating a new selection cycle and extraction.
- the introduction of a sheet requires a single movement of the cylinder 3 in a direction opposite to the advance of the paper to make the selection of the paper.
- the cylinder is then driven in the normal direction of introduction of the paper.
- the two stops of the drive motor controlled by the unit 130 ensure an unimpeded fall of the paper and a closing of the drive rollers 29, 30 in the stationary position of the sheet. It is understood that these two stops are not essential, if the shape of the cam 90 is chosen so that the paper has sufficient time to fall on the alignment stop 27 before the roller 30 rests on the roller 29 and so that the stop 27 is retracted immediately after the contact of the two transport rollers 29, 30.
- the transport mechanism 28 picks up this sheet in a predetermined position in order to introduce it in a controlled manner into the printer, thus ensuring exact positioning of the sheet on the striking cylinder 3.
