Definitions
- This invention relates to printing material sets for preparing bar-code labels by pressure-sensitive printing method.
- the bar-code labels are utilized in large quantities in which plural bar-codes are printed on the bar-code labels.
- the plural bar-codes indicate numeral letters which show an information such as a name, a price and a weight of a commodity or an article.
- the bar-code labels are utilized in the statistical analysis of the information concerning the distribution of the commodities or the articles.
- thermosensitive paper As a process for preparing the bar-code labels, several methods of printing with carbon papers, thermosensitive papers or magnetic tapes have been devised while utilizing various types of simplified printers respectively suitable for the materials to be printed other than the transfer- ink printing method on an ordinary sheet of paper.
- the printing method such as an ink-printing method causes a stain on the hand in occasion of changing the ink-roll or an unevenness of the printed image of the bar-codes.
- special means are necessary to stabilize the printed image of the bar-codes against friction.
- thermosensitive printing method there are many occasions of pollution of the finished image of the bar-codes by after-color development due to heating because both the color-developer and the color- former exist on the surface of the label after thermal printing.
- the transfer-printed pigment and wax adhere on the finished label and therefore, the distinctness of the image of the bar-codes is apt to be reduced in heat and friction.
- Every one of the defects mentioned above is the cause of reducing the precision on reading the bar-codes by light pen.
- the reduction of the precision on reading by light pen is particularly remarkable in the case where the bar-codes are printed on the sheet of paper for the label on occasion and then, the bar-code label is adhered onto the commodities or the articles on occasion.
- Another object of this invention is to provide a method for preparing bar-code labels.
- the printing material set for preparing bar-code labels by pressure-sensitive printing method of our invention comprises a printing tape 1, microcapsule layer 2, bar-code label papers 3, an adhesive agent 4 and a stripping tape 5.
- the microcapsules of layer 2 are carried on the printing tape 1 and contain a solution of a colored dyestuff.
- the bar-code label papers 3 are provided with an adhesive agent 4 on the under surface thereof facing on the stripping tape 5.
- the bar-code label papers 3 are detachably adhered to the stripping tape 5 with the adhesive agent 4 at predetermined intervals.
- the microcapsules of layer 2 are crushed by applying a pressure in printing operation and the solution of the colored dyestuff containing therein is flowed to one of the bar-code label papers 3 to print bar-code on the bar-code label paper.
- the flowed solution of the colored dyestuff is immediately absorbed into the bar-code label paper and then fastened thereat.
- the colored dyestuff remains in a stable state after the evaporation of the solvent of the solution.
- the printed bar-code label paper that is the bar-code label, is detached from the stripping tape 5 and then, is applied to a commodity or an article.
- the printing tape 1 is preferably undestroyable by the pressure of percussion of the printer and has a uniform thickness.
- a plastic film of a thickness of 30 n or less than 30 u, preferably from 6 to 20u may be mentioned.
- polyethylene film and polypropylene film may be mentioned.
- the microcapsules held on the inside surface of the printing tape 1 may be used and accordingly, the microcapsules according to this invention may be prepared by the conventional process for the preparation of microcapsules.
- a dyestuff having a large solubility in organic solvents may be used.
- monoazo compounds such as Oil Brown #125® (manufactured by YAMAMOTO KAGAKU GOUSEI K.K.) and Oil Brown BG extra d (manufactured by SHIRADO KAGAKU KENKYUSHO); bisazo compound such as Orient Oil Black HBB® (manufactured by ORIENT KAGAKU KOGYO K.K.), Oil Scarlet SN® (manufactured by SHIRADO KAGAKU KENKYUSHO), and Oleosol Red BB® (manufactured by SUMITOMO KAGAKU KOGYO K.K.); metal complex salts of monoazo compound such as Aizen Metalon Red HGRS® (manufactured by HODOGAYA KAGAKU KOGYO K.K.) and Aizen Spilon Orange GRH
- alkylbenzenes such as toluene and xylene
- diaryl- i methanes diarylethanes
- alkylbiphenyls alkylnaphthalenes and the like
- the printing tape 1 having microcapsules is prepared by coating the suspension of the microcapsules in a latex such as vinylidene chloride on the tape for printing and drying the coated tape. Further, in order to hold the microcapsules on the inside surface of the tape for printing, the known methods may be adopted.
- the conventional papers for a label may be adopted.
- printing papers may be used for the bar-code label papers 3 and particularly, coated papers such as coat paper, art paper and synthetic paper may be preferably used for the bar-code label papers 3.
- coated papers such as coat paper, art paper and synthetic paper may be preferably used for the bar-code label papers 3.
- the bar-code label papers are detachably adhered to the stripping tape 5 at a predetermined intervals via the adhesive agent 4 and the adhered bar-code label papers 3 are easily detached from the stripping tape 5 after printing. Accordingly, the detachability of the stripping tape 5 is necessary and the stripping tape 5 may be selected from the known materials as a stripping tape such as a coated paper, a laminated paper, a plastic film and a coated plastic film, which may be suitably selected according to the kind of the adhesive agent.
- the adhesive agent 4 used herein may be selected from the known adhesive agents which can adhere pieces of papers 3 for printing the bar-codes to the commodity or the article.
- adhesive agents having pressure sensitivity such as an adhesive agents containing natural rubber, silicone polymer, acrylic polymer, acrylic copolymer, polyvinylpyrrolidone or copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone may be mentioned.
- the printing may be carried out by applying a percussion pressure in a predetermined figure on the upper surface of the printing tape 1 thereby preparing a bar-code label with the bar-codes printed in a short time after applying the percussion pressure on the printing tape and evaporating the solvent of the solution
- the obtained bar-codes on the label is fixed in a stable state, not to be stained even by friction and to be maintained distinctly even after a few months.
- An aqueous solution of a melamine-formaldehyde prepolymer (hereinafter referred to as M4F prepolymer, M4F meaning that the molar ratio of formaldehyde to melamine is 4:1) was prepared by mixing 63 g of melamine and 162 g of aqueous 37% by weight solution of formaldehyde (hereinafter referred to as formalin) adjusted to pH of 9.0 with the addition of aqueous 2% by weight solution of sodium hydroxide, reacting melamine and formaldehyde at 70°C and adding 225 g of water just after the dissolution of melamine into the aqueous phase followed by stirring for 3 min.
