Definitions

  • the invention relates to a mechanism for feeding yarn when forming a heel in a circular knitting machine for stockings and the like.
  • a circular machine comprising a needle cylinder in continuous rotation in one direction and an additional thread guide which passes cyclically over the needles of an arc of needles at a higher speed to form the heel and deposits the thread in front of the needles raised.
  • Such a machine is described for example in BE-A-657812.
  • the heel is formed with a continuous rotation of the needle cylinder and with an additional thread guide capable of coaxial movements relative to the cylinder; said thread guide follows the needle cylinder, stops first before a mesh formation position in order to feed the needles with an arc of needles which pass in front of it, then at an angular speed greater than that of the cylinder, it passes over the needles of an arc of raised needles to deposit in front of them the thread which will be knitted during a subsequent lowering in a new corresponding position of formation of stitches and, finally, begins to again to follow the cylinder.
  • said machine has drawbacks because the yarn supplied by the yarn guide does not have a length corresponding to that necessary for the development of the knitting stitches, so that they are, once knitted, very tight because of the thread which is too tight.
  • the main purpose of this invention is to eliminate this drawback.
  • the invention solves the problem of feeding yarn to knitting machines and the like, provided with a needle cylinder in continuous rotation, without tension of the yarn during formation a mesh pocket by accumulating a certain amount of thread exceeding that necessary for the development of the arc of fed needles.
  • the mechanism comprises a set of several additional plates developed in an arc of a circle concentric with the needle cylinder, as well as a structure forming a control cam for said plates which can be moved to cause the radial movement towards the center. plates and their radial retreat towards the outside in synchronism with the additional wire guide arranged below the plate.
  • the additional plates are advantageously arranged above the crown of the traditional plates, which are then arranged with the control heels projecting downward.
  • the cam structure is actuated, relative to the crown of the cylinder of the plates, using two coaxial toothed sectors and a return pinion, and with the intervention of rods which respectively stop said sectors, to determine the 'stop of the cam and the passage above it.
  • the advantages obtained thanks to this invention consist essentially in that the yarn used to knit the stitches of the rows of stitches of a heel pocket is free of tension; the operation of the circular machine with continuously rotating cylinder is more regular even for long periods of work; the mechanism is also applicable to known machines.
  • Fig. 1 shows a plan view of the means for actuating the additional wire guide
  • Fig. 2 shows an overall vertical section of a mechanism according to the invention
  • Fig. 3 shows a plan view of a detail of said mechanism
  • Figs. 4 and 5 show two operating diagrams
  • Fig. 6 shows an actuation system for the additional thread guide.
  • 51 indicates the needle cylinder and 53 indicates the crown fixed to the needle cylinder 51 around the upper edge thereof to form the radial seats for the traditional plates 55.
  • the crown of the plates 53 is released to form the radial seats for the plates in the lower part, the plates 55 having their control heel 55A projecting downwards to cooperate with an underlying annular structure 57, corresponding to the part called traditional plate guard.
  • This arrangement is necessary because it is planned to place at the top of the crown 53 a set of auxiliary plates 59 which are plates for collecting the thread predisposed in a sector of the circumference of the needle cylinder, where the needles form the heel.
  • recovery plates 59 have the control heel 59A which projects upwards to cooperate with a cam structure 61 which also constitutes a guard portion for recovery plates 59, developed in an arc of a circle.
  • This structure 61 is arranged so as to cause friction and to be able to pivot relative to the crown 53 of the plates 55 and to be moved alternately relative to the latter.
  • the structure 61 is integral with a toothed sector 63 with external teeth.
  • a second toothed sector 65 with internal teeth is provided in a seat formed by the crown 53 of the plates 55 secured to the cylinder 51 and also capable of pivoting but with friction, relative to the crown 53.
  • a toothed pinion 67 is mounted free, which is able to rotate spontaneously and which meshes simultaneously with the two sectors 63 and 65.
  • Sector 63 has a rencon journal tre 71, intended to cooperate with a blocking rod 73 which can be moved to interfere with the pin 71. or disappear in front of it.
  • the sector 65 has a meeting pin 75, intended to cooperate with a blocking rod 77 which can be moved to interfere with the pin 75 or disappear in front of it.
  • the locking rods 73 and 77 can be controlled radially and / or angularly to reach the two positions.
  • recoil of the rod 77 interrupts the relative movement between, on the one hand the crown 53, the sector 65 and the sector 63 and, on the other hand the cam 61, and the plates 59 tend to remain projecting.
  • the rod 73 intervenes with its own projection directed towards the center, on the pin 71, the sector 63 is stopped, then the cam 61, while the crown 53, continues to rotate; it follows that at this point, the plates 59 pass over the cam 61, which is stopped, and move, with a centrifugal movement, outward; there is also obtained, by the reverse rotation of the pinion 67, rapid advancement of the sector 65.
  • the radial displacement towards the center of the plates 59 takes place gradually under the effect of the profile of the cam 61 which accelerates with respect to the movement of the needle cylinder 51, and the radial displacement towards the outside of the plates 59 a also gradually, but in the opposite direction, during the stoppage of the structure 61 always under the effect of its profile which always and in any case acts on the heels 59A: in the first phase, starting from the heels of the rear plates 59 and, in the second phase, starting from the heels of the front plates 59 in the direction of rotation of the cylinder 51 of the needles.
  • a hollow shaft 97 which controls the rotation of the thread guide 98, the latter being able to move from an advanced position for loading the needles A to a position moved back radially towards the exclusion center , to which corresponds a pneumatic suction retention sleeve 100 of the wire F.
  • An ad hoc mechanism is used to control the radial movements of the wire guide 98 at the start and at the end of the production of the heel.
  • the shaft 97 between which the wire F passes, is controlled by a pair of gears 99-101, the gear 101 being integral with a small pinion 103 which in turn meshes with a toothed wheel 105.
  • the latter is actuated by the unidirectional movement of a sawtooth wheel 107 cooperating with a jack 109 mounted with a pivot 110 on a small lever 112 coaxial with the assembly 105, 107, which is conveniently braked by a band brake 114.
  • the small lever 112 is actuated by a wheelhouse 116-118 with contact roller 120 actuated by a cam 112, which is best illustrated in FIG. 6.
  • This cam 122 has a reset sector (A), in which the wire guide 98 is stopped, a sector (B) in which movement of the wire guide 98 takes place at a speed equal to that of the cylinder 51, a sector (C) in which a movement of the wire guide 98 is obtained at a speed of approximately triple that of the cylinder 51 and a sector (D) where the wire guide 98 has a movement of speed equal to that of the cylinder 51; these movements, obtained by the cam 61 with the roller 120, are multiplied through the transmission mechanism described above.
  • Figs. 4 and 5 shows the operation of the mechanism described.
  • Fig. 4 with PA is indicated the position in which the thread guide 98 remains stationary, until all the needles A in operation have formed the stitch in the position PB.
  • the thread guide 98 moves to the point PC while all the needles A in operation are raised.
  • the wire guide 98 is advanced at a speed three times that of the cylinder 51 to the PE position, then move it to the PA position at a speed equal to that of the cylinder 51 and then stop it there.
  • the mesh is formed with the thread F previously deposited on the needles A by the rapid movement of the thread guide 98. All these operations take place at each revolution of the cylinder 51.
  • the needles A intended to work for the formation of the heel can be gradually excluded and included at the ends of the arc of needles in function, to obtain the traditional formation of the heel, always with the continuous rotation of the needle cylinder 51 and with alternating rows.
  • Fig. 5 shows the position of the wire guide 98 when the stitches are to be formed with the wire F deposited by the wire guide 98 which has passed the cylinder 51 with a triple speed.
  • the plates 59 are progressively displaced radially outwards, that is to say that they are moved back to provide sufficient F wire for mesh formation in the mesh formation position.
  • 59x represents the plates still advanced radially towards the center
  • 59y the plates which are moving backwards
  • 59z the plates which are moved back radially towards the outside.
