- the complete text can be displayed at the same time, for example a cursor or increased brightness in the complete text marks the text section displayed in motion.
- the repeated movement of a group of characters can only be seen from left to right, as the additional displacement voltage contains a very fast feedback, i.e. has a sawtooth profile with a very steep flank, or it can be moved more oscillating if the displacement voltage has a sinusoidal profile, for example.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for improving the legibility of characters displayed in any position on a rasterized screen, ie the reproduction of characters on rasterized screens, the raster elements of which are not permanently assigned to the partial areas of the characters to be displayed. Such screens are, for example, the luminous surfaces of color picture tubes, in which the raster elements are formed by the groups of three of the luminescent dots, which are arranged at a distance of about 0.8 mm from one another and are used to excite electron beams. This also includes liquid crystal matrix displays, the grid elements of which have center distances of, for example, 0.2 mm. When displaying a text on such screens, the size of the characters must be a multiple of the center distance of the grid elements. But even if the height and width of a character is ten times the center distance, the representation of fine details of the characters is not yet satisfactory. The one with the narrowing of the center distances The effort associated with grid elements in the manufacture of the screens is so considerable that a search is made for simpler methods for improving the legibility of the characters shown.
It is an object of the invention to provide a method in which a great improvement in the legibility of text is achieved with little effort for the usual screens, which is particularly important for the reproduction of text information and, e.g. for screen text, increasing importance.
This object is achieved as indicated in the characterizing part of claim 1. The subclaims contain advantageous embodiments of the invention.
The invention is based on the idea of using the sluggishness of the eye not only for suppressing the flickering in image changes, but also for balancing and completing the contour of the character which is recognizable to the eye and thus for improving legibility. If a character is reproduced faster than 25 times per second by changing the configurations of grid elements, the observer gets an impression of the result of overlaying all 25 configurations of the grid elements. Stepped edges are "straightened", and interruptions in lines are "filled in". Interruptions arise due to the gaps between the grid elements, and gradations arise as a result of the display area being subdivided by grid elements and therefore not sufficiently continuous. The VARIETY of the configurations for each character is generated according to the invention by moving the character on the screen of the screen sufficiently quickly, that is to say at about 0.5 to 2 cm / sec.
The legibility of characters displayed on rasterized DispLays is therefore improved by moving the characters on the DispLays. The observer's eye follows the moving characters, which vary slightly in their contours as a result of the rasterization, and averages the contours of the characters. This creates the impression of a continuous course of the contour.
The movement of the sign remains invisible to the observer if the screen and the displayed symbol on the screen are moved equally quickly and in opposite directions. The movement of the sign on the screen is done in a simple manner by an additional displacement signal superimposed on the deflection voltage of the electron beam, while the movement of the screen requires a mechanism. It is therefore preferable in the development of the invention to use the movement of the characters in accordance with the principle of the moving text to additionally improve the legibility. A text intended for reading by the observer and identified, for example, by a cursor, is displayed on another part of the screen and is displayed at a speed of 0.5 to 2 cm / sec. emotional. In contrast to known tickers, however, the characters are not assigned to any particular combination of grid elements. According to the invention, the line is therefore in at least one Direction moves so quickly that approx. 25 different combinations of grid elements for displaying the character respond within 1 second.
The character display device can be designed in such a way that first a larger number of characters, ie the complete text, is displayed on the screen and then a certain subset of the characters are selected and these are then displayed calmly or in motion on the screen. In addition to the selected moving characters on a part of the screen, the complete text can be displayed at the same time, for example a cursor or increased brightness in the complete text marks the text section displayed in motion. By adding an additional offset voltage suitable course repeats cyclically shift fens of the screen or a part of the screen repeatedly traversing are effected - If, for example, a complicated mathematical or chemical formula will be read, so, instead of a single DurchLa u. The repeated movement of a group of characters can only be seen from left to right, as the additional displacement voltage contains a very fast feedback, i.e. has a sawtooth profile with a very steep flank, or it can be moved more oscillating if the displacement voltage has a sinusoidal profile, for example.
So that attention is drawn to a certain text passage and at the same time its readability is increased, after a further development of the method according to the invention, these text passages are simultaneously displayed in an enlarged manner.
The direction of the movement takes into account the pattern of the grid elements on the screen. Has the screen z. B. a stripe pattern, the movement across the stripes increases legibility.
