Beim Betrieb von Schlammsaugewagen, die vor allem zum Reinigen von Kanälen durch Hochdruckspülung dienen, wird eine erhebliche Menge an Spülwasser benötigt, welches in einem besonderen Brauchwasserbehälter des Schlammsaugewagens mitgeführt wird. Dabei kann der Kettenvorhang aus einer Mehrzahl von untereinander unverbundenen, eng benachbart angeordneten Kettensträngen gebildet sein, deren obere Enden fest an der Behälterwandung angeschlossen sind. Anders als bei stationären Sieben, kann ein Kettenvorhang punktuell unterschiedlich wirken, da die einzelnen Glieder des Kettenvorhanges eine Bewegung ausführen können, die anders verläuft als die Bewegung der benachbarten Glieder. Die Erfahrung zeigt, daß die Feststoffe des eintrittsseitig zugeführten Schlammes wesentlich besser ihre kinetische Energie verlieren können und dann an der zuströmseitigen Fläche des Kettenvorhanges durch die Schwerkraft nach unten sinken.
