Definitions
- Arylacetonitriles are produced by reacting cyanogen chloride and aromatic or heteroaromatic methylene or methyl compounds containing activated hydrogen at temperatures from 500 ° C up to 1200 ° C, see Grimm / Menting, Ind. Eng. Chem. Prod. Res. Div. Vol. 14 (1975), No. 3, pages 158-161, and U.S. Patents 2,553,404 and 2,606,917.
- Water or water-containing coolant are also used as direct condensing agents, see. DE-OS 2 854 210.
- the aqueous hydrochloric acid thus formed can have a highly corrosive effect on the apparatus and also saponify the product formed. For this reason, the reaction gas mixture was then simultaneously neutralized during the cooling according to this proposal.
- DE-OS 2 854 210 it is recommended to cool or quench the gas mixture leaving the reactor directly to a temperature below 100 ° C. and thus to bring the gas to condensation. According to this, it should also be advantageous to inject a coolant, preferably water, into the gases for rapid cooling.
- a coolant preferably water
- the water can contain to act neutralizing the hydrochloric acid formed during the reaction, such as. B. alkali metal hydroxides, alkali metal carbonates or bicarbonates. Difficulties arise from the resulting wastewater, which is still highly toxic substances such. B. starting material dissolved in water, product, unreacted cyanogen chloride, by-products and decomposition products of the reaction, and is difficult to eliminate.
- nitriles which are sensitive to hydrochloric acid, were present over a long period of time in addition to the hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride formed when the crude reaction mixture was worked up by distillation.
- the purpose of the registration is therefore to provide a technically simple procedure for con densation of the reactor gases and thus increase the yield of nitrile.
- the condensate obtained in the second condensation stage is preferably returned to the reaction stage for the production of nitrile and preferably the hydrogen chloride from which the gas leaving the third condensation stage is obtained by washing with water.
- chlorine cyanide and its respective reactant are used in the form of their gases, as well as in the known molar ratios, e.g. B. 1: 1 to 1: 6. If inert gases are to be used during the fractionation, nitrogen and carbon dioxide are particularly suitable.
- Aromatic or heteroaromatic methylene or methyl compounds that contain activated hydrogen and do not form hydrochloride with hydrochloric acid are used as reactants for cyanogen chloride:
- Toluene derivatives substituted on the core are therefore once suitable for the process according to the invention.
- Possible substituents are: hydrogen, halogens such as fluorine and / or chlorine, further methyl groups, hydroxyl groups or nitrile groups.
- the substituent can optionally be in the o-, m- or p-position to the methyl group of the toluene in the corresponding derivatives thereof; the hydroxy group only in the p-position.
- toluene can be substituted by fluorine and chlorine or two methyl groups in the 3- and 5-positions to the already existing methyl group.
- Hydrogen as a substituent is of course toluene itself.
- methylthiophenes have also been found to be suitable.
- 2-Methylthiophene are particularly suitable; 3-methylthiophene; 2,5-dimethylthiophene; 3,4-dimethylthiophene.
- Another compound that can be used in the process according to the invention is diphenylmethane.
- toluene, 2-methylthiophene and 3-methylthiophene are particularly preferred, and P-cyanotoluene can also be used.
- the products obtained in the process according to the invention are the phenylacetonitriles or thiophenacetonitriles or diphenylacetonitrile which are substituted in accordance with the starting material.
- first and second condensation stages known fractionation columns containing various types of trays or fillings are used, preferably Sambay or falling film evaporators.
- the reaction mixture is preferably introduced into the 1st stage precooled.
- To set the desired temperature z. B. uses a thermostated liquid in the double jacket of the columns or falling film evaporator, which should not fall below 80 ° C and should not exceed 200 ° C as the lowest temperature in the first condensation stage.
- the second and third condensation stage i. that is, in the second stage the temperature of the liquid should not fall below 20 ° C and not exceed 82 ° C; in the third stage, do not fall below -100 ° C and do not exceed + 5 ° C.
- Steam can also be used as a thermostated liquid in the first condensation stage for heating temperatures above 100 ° C.
- the oils known for this purpose are generally used for this temperature range.
- the optimal temperatures for the operation of the fractionation columns in the individual condensation stages are determined with the help of analytical measurements by a preliminary test, since they are known to be dependent on the usual column parameters such as height, diameter, type of packing or trays (if available), feed quantities and flow rates of the gases to be condensed depend.
- Cyanogen chloride is introduced via line 1, and the reactants are introduced into reactor 3 via line 2 and reacted there.
- the nitrile-containing gas enters the fractionation column 5 via the cooled line 4, where the separation into crude nitrile, which is taken off via line 6, and gaseous reactants takes place, which together with gaseous hydrogen chloride, unreacted cyanogen chloride and organic By-products are taken off at the top of column 5 via line 7 and passed into fractionation column 8.
- unreacted reactant and cyanogen chloride are condensed as completely as possible and either removed as such (not shown) or preferably returned via line 9 to the reactor 3 for the production of nitrile.
- the residual gas leaving column 8 consists essentially of hydrogen chloride and optionally inert gas, as well as lower-boiling by-products, such as.
- the gaseous hydrogen chloride which is now free of impurities passes via line 13 into a washing column 14 into which water is introduced via line 15.
- the aqueous hydrochloric acid solution leaves the system via line 16.
- concentrated or less concentrated hydrochloric acid solutions can be obtained.
- other detergents such as alkaline solutions, e.g. B. of dilute alkali or carbonate solutions is possible per se; however, they do not lead to usable products, as with the use of water.
- the crude nitrile leaving the fractionation column 5 via line 6 enters the fractionation column 18, from which the pure nitrile is taken off in vapor form via line 19 and condensed in the cooler 20.
- the product is taken off via line 21.
- the third condensation stage 11 generally consists of a heat exchanger which is operated with cooling brine.
- An activated carbon filter can be connected upstream or downstream of this heat exchanger for better adsorption of the by-products.
- activated carbon instead of activated carbon, other adsorbents can also be used.
- the process permits the direct isolation of the nitrile formed in the reaction from the reaction gas with an increase in the yield, furthermore the direct isolation of the starting substance used in excess, which then immediately goes into a cyclic process, optionally with residues of cyanogen chloride not converted in the reaction, can be recycled into the reactor, and the recovery of hydrochloric acid solutions. Description
Eng. Chem. Prod. Res. Div.
In Frage kommen besonders 2-Methylthiophen; 3-Methylthiophen; 2,5-Di-methylthiophen; 3,4-Dimethylthiophen.
