Definitions
- the subject of the present invention is an electrode for a filter intended for the filtration of fluids, in particular gases, of the electrostatic precipitator type in which the particles to be separated from the gas are charged by a high voltage corona effect and are collected on a series of 'electrodes arranged in a chicane and which are charged with electricity of opposite sign.
- the electrodes used hitherto in this type of filter are metallic and they have various drawbacks, the main one being a reduction in filter efficiency caused when arcs occur between the electrodes when the distances between them, following the deposition of the particles collected, decrease.
- the other major drawbacks presented by these metal electrodes are, on the one hand, the difficulty of maintaining the filters which they equip and, on the other hand, their cost.
- the object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide electrodes making it possible first of all to ensure that the filters they equip have a high efficiency which remains substantially constant regardless of the extent of the deposits of particles on these electrodes and the distances between them taking into account the said deposits. Furthermore, the electrodes according to the invention, the cost of which is lower than that of conventional electrodes, make it possible to considerably simplify the maintenance operations of the filters.
- said electrode consists of an electrically conductive metallic element covered, on at least a large part of its surface, by a dielectric having a large amount of roughness having a free end making protrusion from the face of the dielectric that opposite to that which is in contact with the metallic element, the electrode having means for connecting the metallic element to one of the conductors of the circuit.
- the high efficiency of the filter equipped with electrodes according to the invention is due to the fact that the electric charges, supplied to the dielectrics by the metallic elements with which they are associated, migrate towards the end of the aforementioned asperities of the dielectrics and cause, thanks to the 'peak effect, an intense ionizing field, without disruptive effect, over a large part of the electrode surface.
- the above-mentioned metallic element is in the form of a flexible strip comprised between two thicknesses of dielectric, such as fibrous material, joined together along the longitudinal edges of the aforementioned tape, a free space being provided between these two thicknesses, near each of their ends, so as to allow passage, at one of said ends, to the means of connection of the metallic element to one of the conductors of the aforementioned circuit and to means for fixing the electrode and, at the other end, to said means for fixing the electrode.
- dielectric such as fibrous material
- the two thicknesses of fibrous material are woven or knitted and have a high resistance to elongation at least in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the above-mentioned ribbon.
- this comprises, associated with the end of the two thick sisters of fibrous material opposite to that where the means for connecting the metallic element, an elastic member, are provided, at least in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the aforementioned tape, fixed to the two thicknesses of the above-mentioned material and arranged to deliver passage to the electrode fixing means.
- the invention also relates to a filter equipped with the above-mentioned electrode according to the invention, this filter advantageously comprises an insulating boot, means for fixing the electrodes arranged in this housing so that the latter are arranged substantially parallel to the to each other and regularly spaced from each other by a distance corresponding to at least twice the length of the free ends of the aforementioned asperities, two electrode supply bars arranged in the housing and extending transversely to said electrodes, the latter being connected to said bars so that the polarities of the two immediately adjacent electrodes are alternated, the housing having, for the passage of gas, two opposite openings extending substantially perpendicular to the electrodes.
- the electrode 1 according to the invention and re p résen- ted to the drawings consists of a metal element 2, electrically conductive, coated on at least a substantial portion of its surface, by a dielectric 3 made to using a fibrous material, this dielectric having, on its face 4 opposite the element 2, a large quantity of fibers having a free end 5 projecting from said face 4, means 6 and 7 being provided for respectively connect the metal element 2 to one of the conductors of the filter supply circuit and fix the electrode in the filter.
- the free ends 5 of the fibers chosen either with a negative characteristic, such as chlorofiber, or with a positive characteristic, such as polyamide, in the triboelectric chain, are charged with positive or negative electricity.
- the filter fitted with electrodes according to the invention can no longer, as ar shore frequently with filters equipped with known metal electrodes, undergo a drop in efficiency caused by electric arcs occurring between the electrodes and caused by an accumulation of particles on the latter, regardless of the quantity of particles collected by the aforementioned fibers 5.
- the electrode 1 shown in FIG. 1 comprises a metallic element 2, in the shape of a U, covered, practically completely, by a sheath 8 constituting the aforementioned dielectric, this sheath being supported by the two branches of the U and kept taut on the element 2 thanks to the elasticity of the latter.
- a filter equipped with such electrodes is particularly easy to maintain because it suffices, when the sheaths 8 are sufficiently charged with particles separated from the gas to be filtered, to slide them over the elements 2 which support them and to replace them. by new sheaths, the cost of the latter being lower than the cost involved in cleaning the sheaths loaded with particles.
- the replacement of the sheaths 8 also makes it possible to minimize the duration of the deactivation of the filter.
- This electrode is connected to one of the conductors of the filter supply circuit by one of the ends 9 of the element 2 engaging in a corresponding housing of a power strip and is held in place in the filter by, on the one hand, the abovementioned end 9 immobilized in the housing of the bar and, on the other hand, by the other end 9 immobilized in an insulated housing provided in the filter housing.
- electrodes according to the invention can be reduced compared to that of the electrode shown in Figure 1 by providing, as illustrated in the figures 2 and 3, electrodes, the metallic element 2 of which consists of a flexible metallic ribbon or film comprised between two thicknesses 10 and 11 of fibrous material joined together, by sewing or by welding, along the longitudinal edges 12 and 13 of the ribbon.
- a free space 14, 15 is provided between these thicknesses 10 and 11, near each of the ends 16, 17 of the electrode to allow passage to a spindle whose length is such that once engaged in the electrode it projects on either side of the latter, the spindle intended to engage in the free space 14 being made of a material which is good conductor of electricity and being intended to come into contact, on the one hand, with the aforementioned power strip and, on the other hand, with the ribbon forming, at the end 16 of the electrode a loop 18.
- This pin engages, at its end opposite the power strip, in a housing provided in the filter housing so that it immobilizes the end 16 of the electrode relative to the filter.
- the end 17 of the electrode is fixed in the filter by a second pin made for example of an insulating material and intended to be held, at its two ends, in housings provided in the filter housing.
- the housings and the bar are arranged so that the electrode shown in FIG. 2 is tensioned when the two pins which secure it are placed in their respective housings
- one can garnish as shown in Figure 3, the end 17 of an elastic insulating member 19 fixed to the two thick sors of material 10 and 11.
- the two thicknesses 10 and 11 are woven and have a high resistance to elongation in a direction parallel to the longitudinal edges 12 and 13 of the aforementioned ribbon.
- the conductive strip of the electrode is either in single thickness (FIG. 2) or in double thickness (FIG. 3), the thicknesses of the ribbon being able to be bonded together and to the thicknesses of material 10 and 11.
- the filter 20 shown in FIG. 4 and equipped with electrodes 1 similar to that shown in FIG. 3, comprises an insulating housing 21, two power strips 22 and 23 of the electrodes fixed to the housing so as to extend transversely to the electrodes 1, housings for the pins 24 and 25 for supplying and fixing the electrodes being arranged so that the electrodes 1 are substantially parallel to one another, at a distance slightly greater than twice the length of the free ends 5 fibers, and that they are connected to the bars 22 and 23 so that the polarities of the two immediately adjacent electrodes are alternated.
- the inlet 28 and outlet 29 openings of the filter extend perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the electrodes, the aforementioned bars 22 and 23 extending parallel to these openings and close to the latter.
- the strip 22 for supplying the positive electrodes is advantageously disposed near the inlet opening 28 for the gases into the filter, since it has been found that most of the particles to be filtered are more easily positively charged, and the positive electrodes are offset from the negative electrodes along the longitudinal axis of the metal elements 2, the positive electrodes being, like the negative electrodes, aligned with one another.
- This offset has the advantage of increasing the developed section of the filter inlet, of avoiding that the inlet or the outlet of the filter can come into contact with electrodes of different polarities and also allow d '' equip the filter with straight bars 22 and 23. It is advantageous to arrange the filter so that the electrodes which are accessible are the negative electrodes grounded, which avoids any risk of electrocution.
- the metallic element 2 is constituted by a metallic deposit made on the face of the dielectric opposite to that which has the abovementioned roughness.

Abstract
Description
The subject of the present invention is an electrode for a filter intended for the filtration of fluids, in particular gases, of the electrostatic precipitator type in which the particles to be separated from the gas are charged by a high voltage corona effect and are collected on a series of 'electrodes arranged in a chicane and which are charged with electricity of opposite sign.
The electrodes used hitherto in this type of filter are metallic and they have various drawbacks, the main one being a reduction in filter efficiency caused when arcs occur between the electrodes when the distances between them, following the deposition of the particles collected, decrease. The other major drawbacks presented by these metal electrodes are, on the one hand, the difficulty of maintaining the filters which they equip and, on the other hand, their cost.
The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks and to provide electrodes making it possible first of all to ensure that the filters they equip have a high efficiency which remains substantially constant regardless of the extent of the deposits of particles on these electrodes and the distances between them taking into account the said deposits. Furthermore, the electrodes according to the invention, the cost of which is lower than that of conventional electrodes, make it possible to considerably simplify the maintenance operations of the filters.
To this end, according to the invention, said electrode consists of an electrically conductive metallic element covered, on at least a large part of its surface, by a dielectric having a large amount of roughness having a free end making protrusion from the face of the dielectric that opposite to that which is in contact with the metallic element, the electrode having means for connecting the metallic element to one of the conductors of the circuit.
The high efficiency of the filter equipped with electrodes according to the invention is due to the fact that the electric charges, supplied to the dielectrics by the metallic elements with which they are associated, migrate towards the end of the aforementioned asperities of the dielectrics and cause, thanks to the 'peak effect, an intense ionizing field, without disruptive effect, over a large part of the electrode surface.
According to one embodiment of the electrode according to the invention, the above-mentioned metallic element is in the form of a flexible strip comprised between two thicknesses of dielectric, such as fibrous material, joined together along the longitudinal edges of the aforementioned tape, a free space being provided between these two thicknesses, near each of their ends, so as to allow passage, at one of said ends, to the means of connection of the metallic element to one of the conductors of the aforementioned circuit and to means for fixing the electrode and, at the other end, to said means for fixing the electrode.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the electrode according to the invention, the two thicknesses of fibrous material are woven or knitted and have a high resistance to elongation at least in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the above-mentioned ribbon.
According to a particularly advantageous embodiment of the electrode according to the invention, this comprises, associated with the end of the two thick sisters of fibrous material opposite to that where the means for connecting the metallic element, an elastic member, are provided, at least in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the aforementioned tape, fixed to the two thicknesses of the above-mentioned material and arranged to deliver passage to the electrode fixing means.
The invention also relates to a filter equipped with the above-mentioned electrode according to the invention, this filter advantageously comprises an insulating boot, means for fixing the electrodes arranged in this housing so that the latter are arranged substantially parallel to the to each other and regularly spaced from each other by a distance corresponding to at least twice the length of the free ends of the aforementioned asperities, two electrode supply bars arranged in the housing and extending transversely to said electrodes, the latter being connected to said bars so that the polarities of the two immediately adjacent electrodes are alternated, the housing having, for the passage of gas, two opposite openings extending substantially perpendicular to the electrodes.
Other details and particularities of the invention will emerge from the description of the drawings appended to this specification and which represent, by way of non-limiting examples, particular embodiments of the electrode and of the filter according to the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view, partially broken, of an electrode according to the invention.
- Les figures 2 et 3 sont des vues analogues à la figure 1 montrant des variantes de l'électrode représentée à ladite figure 1.Figures 2 and 3 are views similar to Figure 1 showing variants of the electrode shown in said Figure 1.
- La figure 4 est une vue schématique, en perspective et avec brisures partielles, d'un filtre équipé d'électrodes suivant l'invention et du genre montré à la figure 3.Figure 4 is a schematic view, in pers pective and with partial breaks, of a filter fitted with electrodes according to the invention and of the kind shown in FIG. 3.
In the various figures, the same reference notations designate identical or analogous elements.
The
The
The cost of the electrodes according to the invention can be reduced compared to that of the electrode shown in Figure 1 by providing, as illustrated in the figures 2 and 3, electrodes, the
Although there is nothing to prevent the electrodes shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 from being able to get rid of the particles retained by the fibers 5, their low cost makes it possible, during maintenance of the filter, to advantageously replace the electrodes charged with particles by new electrodes, which has the advantage of keeping the filter at its highest level of filtration and shortening its deactivation as much as possible for the maintenance of the electrodes.
The
It should be understood that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiments described and that many modifications can be made to these without departing from the scope of this patent.
This is how we could predict trodes of which the
