Definitions
- the invention relates to a tape cassette with a storage chamber for a ribbon loop package, in particular for continuous color ribbons, to which the ribbon can be fed by means of a ribbon feed device and which has an outlet slot on the opposite side of the cartridge for feeding the ribbon, e.g. in front of the printing position of a printing unit, and in the chamber area in front of the outlet slot, which are fastened to the side walls of the cassette housing and have guide elements for limiting the storage space and forming a tape exit space.
- the ink ribbon is preferably conveyed into the storage chamber of the cassette by means of a pair of transport rollers, forming a plurality of uniform loops, and is removed again at the other end of the cassette, with the individual loops being resolved successively, where it reaches the printing position and then again from the transport roller pair is fed.
- the particular advantages of such continuous ribbon cartridges are that the storage volume can be used well and that jamming or other disruptions in the ribbon transport in the cartridge are largely excluded, with the result that, in contrast to cartridges with wild loops, the ribbon tension remains approximately the same.
- EP-A-0 008 681 describes an ink ribbon cassette with a storage space for an endless ink ribbon, in which guide elements for the ink ribbon are formed by short projections formed in the housing wall, which do not have elastic properties in the sense of the invention.
- US-A-3 123 269 discloses an ink ribbon cassette of the type mentioned at the outset, in which guide elements are provided in the chamber area in front of the outlet slot on the side walls and, as non-resilient supporting parts for supporting the ribbon loop package, limit the storage space and in this way form a tape exit space.
- the invention has for its object to improve the reliability in the function of such a tape cassette with loop memory, in particular to make the loop formation and removal of the tape independent of changes in the tape characteristics, so that the formation and dissolution of the tape loops and the transport of the tape from the The cassette can run smoothly even if the ribbon shows certain deformations and other changes in length and foldability.
- the elastic guide elements provided according to the invention compensate for the above-mentioned changes in the band and have the effect that the loop package remains uniform in terms of its density due to the uniform push-back force and that the dissolution of the foremost loop for removing the band from the cassette through the outlet slot without interferences and thus significantly is safer because the band is not hindered by the loop package in the loosening zone formed by the elastic guide elements.
- the guide elements according to the invention in the area in front of the outlet slot adapt automatically to the respective length of the loop package, and when appropriately suitable spring elements, such as roller springs, are used, it is ensured that the push-back force is constant.
- the ribbon cassette according to the invention is a significant improvement on the ribbon cassette described in the earlier application 79101712.2 (patent no. 6994).
- roller springs When using roller springs, it is expedient to attach them to the side walls of the cassette with one end so that they roll along the side walls when the loop package increases. This rolling movement of a roller spring occurs independently of the opposite roller spring, so that the individual loop halves are released without the roller spring interfering with one another. To ensure this independence, one can limit the range of movement of the elasti see guide element in the base plate of the cassette provide a guide bed each.
- the cassette designed according to the invention is suitable both for cassettes which are firmly connected to the tape feed device and for cassettes which can be removed from the tape feed.
- locking elements are expediently arranged on the open end of the cassettes opposite the exit slot for fastening the latter to the feed device, which locking elements are also effective as a holding element for the loop package located in the cassette.
- the locking elements are preferably designed as leaf springs, which protrude into the interior of the ribbon chamber and have outwardly directed cam surfaces for locking with the feed device and inwardly directed holding surfaces for holding the ribbon loop package. These leaf springs are strong enough to act as a counterforce against the roller springs.
- a particular advantage of the invention is that the arrangement designed according to this teaching has a very simple structure and is therefore easy to manufacture and at low cost.
- the ribbon storage arrangement shown in FIG. 3 contains a cassette 10 with a flat housing cover 11 and a housing 12, which form a cubic container as a storage chamber for an ink ribbon stored in loops.
- the housing 12 has a rear wall 13 with an outlet slot 14, through which the ink ribbon 15 is pulled out of the storage container formed by the cassette 10. This pulling out takes place under the action of a brake arrangement consisting of a piston 17, which is under the action of a spring 16 and presses the ink ribbon 15 against a block 18 in the housing 12 immediately adjacent to the outlet slot 14.
- Guides 19 for the piston 17 and the block 18 are designed as integrated components of the rear wall 13.
- the housing 12 also has side walls 20, 21 projecting vertically from the base plate 22. At the opposite end, the cassette 10 is open for attachment to a feeder, which will be described later.
- the side walls 20 and 21 are provided with flanges 23 and 24 at their front ends, and horizontal ribs 25 on the inside of the flanges 23 and 24 serve to vertically align the cassette 10 with respect to the transport rollers of the feed device.
- Leaf springs 26 and 27 in the housing cover 11 and in the base plate 22 of the housing serve to hold the ribbon supply in order to prevent the ribbon from escaping from the open end of the cassette 10 when it is removed from the feed device.
- the leaf springs 26 and 27 are shaped such that their front surfaces act as a kind of cam surfaces 28, while the holding surfaces 29 facing the inside of the cassette serve to hold the ink ribbon.
- a guide bed 33 or 34 is provided in the base plate 22 of the housing 12 for the roller springs 30, 31 in such a way that the movement space for the unwinding and rolling up 30, 31 is delimited.
- the feed device and the cassette 10 are designed as separate units. 1, 2 and 4 show, the feed device consists of a pair of transport rollers 41 and 42, which are rotatably mounted and form a clamping area 43 for gripping the ink ribbon 15.
- the transport roller 41 is guided in bearings and arranged along a stripping device 44 which is fastened to a frame part 46 by means of screws 45.
- the transport roller 42 is assigned a scraper device 47, which is pivotably mounted on the frame part 46 by means of a bolt 48.
- the drive shafts 49 and 50 for the transport rollers 41 and 42 are connected via a toothed gear to an electric motor 52, which can be designed as a stepper motor.
- the details and mode of operation of the transport rollers 41 and 42 for forming the loops of the ribbon supply in the cassette and the effect of the stripping devices 44, 47 are explained in patent application 79 10 17 12.2 (patent no. 6994).
- the cassette 10 is mounted in a guide frame which projects beyond the frame part 46. In this position, the transport rollers 41 and 42 and the stripping devices 44 and 47 partially protrude into the open end of the cassette 10.
- the leaf springs 26 and 27 on the housing cover 11 and the base plate 22 of the cassette 10 are pressed outwards by the engagement with the feed device with the cam surfaces 28.
- Cutouts 54 and 55 in the upper and lower surfaces of the feed device form a corresponding engagement for the leaf springs 26 and 27 for securely holding the cassette 10 during the ribbon feed.
- the cutouts 54 and 55 are preferably bevelled toward the storage container of the cassette 10, so that the vertical holding surfaces 29 of the leaf springs 26 and 27 project outwards when the cassette 10 can be removed from the feed device.
- the leaf springs 26 and 27 are thus bent outwards and the cassette 10 is then removed. As soon as this is completely released from the interlocking with the feed device, the leaf springs 26, 27 snap back inwards, so that their holding surfaces 29 serve as a holder for the loop package at the open end of the cassette 10.
- the cassette 10 can therefore now be transported in the filled state, namely with the loop package compressed under the action of the roller springs 30, 31, without the ink ribbon being able to escape.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a tape cassette with a storage chamber for a ribbon loop package, in particular for continuous color ribbons, to which the ribbon can be fed by means of a ribbon feed device and which has an outlet slot on the opposite side of the cartridge for feeding the ribbon, e.g. in front of the printing position of a printing unit, and in the chamber area in front of the outlet slot, which are fastened to the side walls of the cassette housing and have guide elements for limiting the storage space and forming a tape exit space.
In such cassettes, the ink ribbon is preferably conveyed into the storage chamber of the cassette by means of a pair of transport rollers, forming a plurality of uniform loops, and is removed again at the other end of the cassette, with the individual loops being resolved successively, where it reaches the printing position and then again from the transport roller pair is fed. The particular advantages of such continuous ribbon cartridges are that the storage volume can be used well and that jamming or other disruptions in the ribbon transport in the cartridge are largely excluded, with the result that, in contrast to cartridges with wild loops, the ribbon tension remains approximately the same.
To form a uniform loop package, it is necessary that the ribbon is guided at both ends and from the side walls of the cassette, otherwise the ribbon tends to tangle or get caught, especially if it has been used for a long time and has corresponding deformations. In the known cassette designs, such as are described, for example, in US Pat. Nos. 1,063,289 and 2,685,357 and 3,974,906, the storage chamber is filled with the ribbon loops up to the outlet slot, with the result that ribbon entanglements in this area occur and can hinder the removal of the tape. The longer the ribbon is in use, the greater this risk is, since an ink ribbon is predominantly used in the middle area when the characters are imprinted and therefore undergoes certain deformations and tends to wrinkle and undergoes a certain lengthening. The shape of the loop package as well as the forces exerted by the package in the cassette are therefore subject to certain changes over time.
In der EP-A-0 008 681 ist eine Farbbandkassette mit einem Speicherraum für ein endloses Farbband beschrieben, bei der Führungselemente für das Farbband durch in der Gehäusewand angeformte kurze Vorsprünge gebildet sind, die elastische Eigenschaften im Sinne der Erfindung nicht besitzen.EP-A-0 008 681 describes an ink ribbon cassette with a storage space for an endless ink ribbon, in which guide elements for the ink ribbon are formed by short projections formed in the housing wall, which do not have elastic properties in the sense of the invention.
Durch die US-A-3 123 269 ist demgegenüber eine Farbbandkassette der eingangs genannten Gattung bekannt, bei der im Kammerbereich vor dem Austrittsschlitz an den Seitenwänden befindlichen Führungselemente vorgesehen sind, die als nicht federnde Abstützteile zum Abstützen des Bandschleifenpakets den Speicherraum begrenzen und auf diese Weise einen Bandaustrittsraum bilden.US-A-3 123 269, on the other hand, discloses an ink ribbon cassette of the type mentioned at the outset, in which guide elements are provided in the chamber area in front of the outlet slot on the side walls and, as non-resilient supporting parts for supporting the ribbon loop package, limit the storage space and in this way form a tape exit space.
The invention has for its object to improve the reliability in the function of such a tape cassette with loop memory, in particular to make the loop formation and removal of the tape independent of changes in the tape characteristics, so that the formation and dissolution of the tape loops and the transport of the tape from the The cassette can run smoothly even if the ribbon shows certain deformations and other changes in length and foldability.
This object has been achieved by the arrangement according to claim 1. The elastic guide elements provided according to the invention compensate for the above-mentioned changes in the band and have the effect that the loop package remains uniform in terms of its density due to the uniform push-back force and that the dissolution of the foremost loop for removing the band from the cassette through the outlet slot without interferences and thus significantly is safer because the band is not hindered by the loop package in the loosening zone formed by the elastic guide elements.
The guide elements according to the invention in the area in front of the outlet slot adapt automatically to the respective length of the loop package, and when appropriately suitable spring elements, such as roller springs, are used, it is ensured that the push-back force is constant. Thus, the ribbon cassette according to the invention is a significant improvement on the ribbon cassette described in the earlier application 79101712.2 (patent no. 6994).
Although it is known to use resilient elements for cassettes, these serve in the known arrangements either exclusively to generate the belt tension or, as in the device according to US Pat. No. 2,685,357, as holding elements which can be swung away to the side and which are in the closed position secure the loop supply at the cassette end on the entry side against falling out.
When using roller springs, it is expedient to attach them to the side walls of the cassette with one end so that they roll along the side walls when the loop package increases. This rolling movement of a roller spring occurs independently of the opposite roller spring, so that the individual loop halves are released without the roller spring interfering with one another. To ensure this independence, one can limit the range of movement of the elasti see guide element in the base plate of the cassette provide a guide bed each.
The cassette designed according to the invention is suitable both for cassettes which are firmly connected to the tape feed device and for cassettes which can be removed from the tape feed. In the latter case, locking elements are expediently arranged on the open end of the cassettes opposite the exit slot for fastening the latter to the feed device, which locking elements are also effective as a holding element for the loop package located in the cassette. In this way, when the cassette is removed from the feed device, the tape package, which is under the action of the pushing back force of the elastic guide elements, is automatically held in the cassette and cannot fall out.
The locking elements are preferably designed as leaf springs, which protrude into the interior of the ribbon chamber and have outwardly directed cam surfaces for locking with the feed device and inwardly directed holding surfaces for holding the ribbon loop package. These leaf springs are strong enough to act as a counterforce against the roller springs.
A particular advantage of the invention is that the arrangement designed according to this teaching has a very simple structure and is therefore easy to manufacture and at low cost.

The ribbon storage arrangement shown in FIG. 3 contains a
The
Leaf springs 26 and 27 in the
Fig.1). Rollfedern
- As soon as a loop of the
ink ribbon 15 is pulled out of the area of the compressive force exerted by the 30 and 31, each of theroller springs 30, 31 independently rolls back and detects the next loop of the ink ribbon loop package. This process is repeated alternately on both sides of the exit end of the loop package. Here, as already mentioned, the length of the loop package is different due to changing characteristics of the ink ribbon, so that the roller springs 30, 31 roll up and down accordingly and change their position with respect to the entrance opening of the cassette, where the loop formation is generated ( see Fig. 1). A special feature of theroller springs 30, 31 for the purpose described here is that the rolling back force of these springs and thus that on the Loop force exerted is constant.coil springs
Since the
In the illustrated embodiment, the feed device and the
In the arrangement according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the
To remove the
