Definitions
- the invention relates to a four-wheeled wheelchair with two articulated frame parts that are pivotally connected to one another about the longitudinal axis of the wheelchair, on one part of which is connected to the seat plate the two hand-operated drive wheels and on the other part of which the two wheels are mounted.
- a motor-driven wheelchair of this type is known, for example, from Swedish publication 343533.
- This wheelchair has controllable front wheels and rear wheels driven by an electric motor.
- the frame part carrying the front wheels is connected to the rear frame part supporting the seat by means of an axis having a swivel joint in such a way that the mutual pivoting of the frame parts is made possible in a predetermined angular range limited by stops.
- the limitation of this mutual pivotability takes place for the purpose of when driving over uneven floors, such as. B. a threshold to avoid the risk of tipping.
- the stability of this wheelchair is comparable to that of a three-wheeled wheelchair.
- the wheelchair Since the wheelchair is driven by a motor, the patient can generally remain in a normal sitting position which, despite the design of the chair which behaves like a tricycle, ensures relatively good stability.
- the motorized wheelchair is relatively heavy, which contributes to the fact that it has a satisfactory stability.
- the advantage of the mutually limited pivotability of the two frame parts is that when a wheel rolls on a rise or into a depression, all wheels, in particular the drive wheels, remain in contact with the ground, but only keep it as long as the unevenness is not greater than it corresponds to the limited pivotability of the frame parts.
- a wheelchair driven by the patient himself with preferably limited pivotability of the two frame parts is described in German Offenlegungsschrift 27 31 952 and in Swedish Auslegeschrift 7 608 071.
- the inherently rigid seat is rigidly connected to the part of the frame which has the drive wheels, so that pivoting of the frame part carrying the wheels does not affect the seat.
- the wheels are designed as so-called swivel wheels, so that they are set in the direction of travel.
- the driving characteristics of this chair with regard to driving over uneven floors correspond to those of a three-wheeled chair within the possible pivoting of the two frame parts.
- this chair also has the disadvantages of a three-wheel chair, which consists in increased instability when the load on the seat plate changes, so that there is a risk of tipping when the body weight of a patient is shifted to the edge area on the wheel side.
- this chair behaves like one with rigidly connected frame parts.
- a chair has the disadvantage if one of the front wheels is hit by an obstacle, such as. B. a threshold, over which the given pivotability limited amount is raised, one of the rear drive wheels is raised and this loses its contact with the ground. The drive then takes place only by means of a single drive wheel, which not only complicates the drive, but also the control of the wheelchair. In such a situation, however, the stability of the frame parts is improved.
- the invention is therefore based on a wheelchair according to German Offenlegungsschrift 2731 952, the task of designing a wheelchair so that it has the advantages of a wheelchair with limited pivotable frame parts, but avoids the disadvantages of such a wheelchair when driving over larger bumps .
- the two frame parts are pivotally connected to one another in the known manner.
- the seat plate is, however, fastened on its two end faces to both the front and the rear frame part.
- the seat plate is designed so that it can bend or twist, so that when one of the wheels is raised or lowered, the ground contact of all wheels is maintained.
- the frame parts are advantageously designed as brackets, whose downward legs form the legs of the wheelchair on which the wheels are mounted are.
- the legs support the torsionally elastic seat plate at a corner area of the seat plate, so that the wheelchair can also absorb off-center vertical loads without the risk of instability. If a load acts essentially on one of the corner areas of the chair, this load is absorbed by the respectively adjacent leg and its wheel without the risk of tipping over. Such a wheelchair is therefore much more stable than a three-wheeled wheelchair.
- the wheels are shown as relatively small rollers 12, 18, 19, 26, 27 of equal size to simplify the figures.
- the arrow 10 or 10a indicates the load on the seat plate in one of the corner areas, a case that occurs when the patient leans forward to support himself in this corner area on the seat plate or an armrest connected to it. If, in the case of FIGS. 1 and 2, the force 10 acts on one of the corner regions of the rigid square plate 11, the wheelchair remains stable. However, if one of the legs rolls up on a floor elevation (not shown), another leg inevitably loses contact with the floor.
- the front pair of wheels 18, 19 is arranged on the front frame part 20, which is connected to the seat plate 21 by means of an axis having a pivot bearing 22.
- the wheelchair behaves like a three-wheeled vehicle within the pivoting range of the front frame part 20 predetermined by this joint.
- the position of the wheelchair remains stable as long as the force acts within the above-mentioned area delimited by lines 15, 16, 17.
- instability of a wheelchair intended for patients is a serious disadvantage.
- a support 29 is connected to this base plate 24 and supports the rigid seat plate 25, which essentially corresponds in size to the base plate 24.
- the rear wheels, drawn in a simplified manner as rollers 26, 27, form the drive wheels, while the wheels, also drawn in a simplified manner as rollers 18, 19, serve as running wheels.
- This wheelchair also behaves like a three-wheeled vehicle within the predetermined pivoting range of the front frame part 20.
- the front wheels 46, 47 are designed as swivel wheels and the rear wheels 48, 49 as drive wheels to be operated by hand.
- the drive wheels can also be arranged at the front and the wheels at the rear.
- the front wheels 46, 47 are arranged at the lower ends of the two legs 50, 51, which together with the cross-connection part 52 form the U-shaped front frame part 53.
- the rear wheels 48, 49 are arranged on the two legs 54, 55, which are connected to one another by means of a cross member 56 and form the rear frame part 57.
- the seat plate 30a - indicated by dash-dotted lines in FIG. - is designed to be twistable about its longitudinal axis.
- the front end face 30b of the seat plate 30a is fastened to the cross-connection part 52 of the front frame part 53 by means of two stud screws 58, 59 and rests on the cross-connection part 52.
- the rear end face 30c of the seat plate is screwed onto the cross member 56 of the rear frame part 57, lying thereon, by means of two bolts 60, 61.
- the front frame part 53 is connected to the rear frame part 57.
- These connections consist of a rail 62 and a U-shaped bracket 63.
- the rail 62 is fastened to the cross member 56 and has at its front end a bearing pin 64 which is mounted on the front cross connection part 52.
- the rail 62 is arranged directly under the seat plate 30a and serves as a support.
- the legs 63a, 63b of the bracket 63 are attached with their front ends to the front legs 51, 50, while the rear apex 63c of the bracket 63 receives a journal 65 which is attached to the rear cross member 56. If the spring force of the seat plate 30a increases with increasing pivoting, this counteracts excessive pivoting.
- Arm supports 66 are arranged on the sides of the wheelchair and a sleeve 67 for a support 68, which supports the backrest 59, is provided on the cross member 56 of the rear frame part 57.
- a seat cushion 70 is indicated in broken lines in FIG. 9.

Description
The invention relates to a four-wheeled wheelchair with two articulated frame parts that are pivotally connected to one another about the longitudinal axis of the wheelchair, on one part of which is connected to the seat plate the two hand-operated drive wheels and on the other part of which the two wheels are mounted.
However, a motor-driven wheelchair of this type is known, for example, from Swedish publication 343533. This wheelchair has controllable front wheels and rear wheels driven by an electric motor. The frame part carrying the front wheels is connected to the rear frame part supporting the seat by means of an axis having a swivel joint in such a way that the mutual pivoting of the frame parts is made possible in a predetermined angular range limited by stops. The limitation of this mutual pivotability takes place for the purpose of when driving over uneven floors, such as. B. a threshold to avoid the risk of tipping. When the two frame parts are pivoted, the stability of this wheelchair is comparable to that of a three-wheeled wheelchair. Since the wheelchair is driven by a motor, the patient can generally remain in a normal sitting position which, despite the design of the chair which behaves like a tricycle, ensures relatively good stability. The motorized wheelchair is relatively heavy, which contributes to the fact that it has a satisfactory stability.
The advantage of the mutually limited pivotability of the two frame parts is that when a wheel rolls on a rise or into a depression, all wheels, in particular the drive wheels, remain in contact with the ground, but only keep it as long as the unevenness is not greater than it corresponds to the limited pivotability of the frame parts.
In the case of wheelchairs driven by the patient himself using his hands, however, the situation is different in that the patient mostly changes his posture when driving one or both wheels. In this case, it can no longer be assumed that the seat plate is continuously loaded essentially in its center, so that in the event of unevenness that would require the two frame parts to be pivoted outside the limited angular range, there is a risk of tipping over, as in the case of a three-wheeled chair as soon as the load approaches an edge area of the seat plate.
A wheelchair driven by the patient himself with preferably limited pivotability of the two frame parts is described in
In the event of uneven floors, which can no longer be compensated for by the limited pivoting of the two frame parts, this chair behaves like one with rigidly connected frame parts. However, such a chair has the disadvantage if one of the front wheels is hit by an obstacle, such as. B. a threshold, over which the given pivotability limited amount is raised, one of the rear drive wheels is raised and this loses its contact with the ground. The drive then takes place only by means of a single drive wheel, which not only complicates the drive, but also the control of the wheelchair. In such a situation, however, the stability of the frame parts is improved.
The invention is therefore based on a wheelchair according to German Offenlegungsschrift 2731 952, the task of designing a wheelchair so that it has the advantages of a wheelchair with limited pivotable frame parts, but avoids the disadvantages of such a wheelchair when driving over larger bumps .
This object is achieved according to the invention by a construction which has the features of claim 1 and advantageously the features of the dependent claims.
In the wheelchair according to the invention, the two frame parts are pivotally connected to one another in the known manner. In contrast to the wheelchair according to German Offenlegungsschrift 2731 952, the seat plate is, however, fastened on its two end faces to both the front and the rear frame part. The seat plate is designed so that it can bend or twist, so that when one of the wheels is raised or lowered, the ground contact of all wheels is maintained. The frame parts are advantageously designed as brackets, whose downward legs form the legs of the wheelchair on which the wheels are mounted are. The legs support the torsionally elastic seat plate at a corner area of the seat plate, so that the wheelchair can also absorb off-center vertical loads without the risk of instability. If a load acts essentially on one of the corner areas of the chair, this load is absorbed by the respectively adjacent leg and its wheel without the risk of tipping over. Such a wheelchair is therefore much more stable than a three-wheeled wheelchair.

- FIGS. 5 and 6 show a rigid seat plate rigidly connected to one pair of legs, the side of which opposite these legs is connected to the other pair of legs by means of a pin;
- FIG. 7 shows a wheelchair constructed according to the construction principle of FIGS. 5 and 6 according to the prior art in a perspective view;

In the illustration of a
In Figures 3 and 4, the
In the case of FIGS. 5 and 6, the front pair of
With an unlimited swivel range, such a wheelchair has the advantage of constant ground contact of all wheels, as in a three-wheeled vehicle. For safety reasons, the swiveling of the front frame part is limited by stops. If this swivel range is reached, the wheelchair shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 behaves like the wheelchair shown in FIG. 2, which has four legs rigidly connected to the seat plate, with all the advantages and disadvantages mentioned above.
The wheelchair shown in FIG. 7, constructed in accordance with German Offenlegungsschrift 2,731,952 and Swedish Auslegeschrift 7608071, corresponds in principle to the wheelchair according to FIGS. 5 and 6; the
Die Antriebsräder können auch vorne und die Laufräder hinten angeordnet sein.horny the embodiment of the wheelchair according to the invention shown in Figures 8 and 9, the
