Definitions
- the invention relates to a magnetic brush developing device for electrostatic charge images on a photoconductive recording layer, in which a developer of toner and magnetic carrier particles is applied to the charge images on which the toner adheres, and with a doctor blade, which is applied to the magnetic brush roller, the amount of dosed by the magnetic brush roller used for developing carrier particles and is brought up to the end faces of the roller at the roller ends.
- Such a developing device is known from DE-OS 2 436 890, in which the carrier particles of the developer are removed from the photoconductive or dielectric recording layer after the development process has ended by the action of magnetic forces.
- a magnet which is designed, for example, as a magnetic roller, is arranged at a close distance from the recording layer with the charge images. The distance between the magnet and the recording layer must be such that the carrier particles cannot be pinched between the layer and the magnet.
- DE-OS 2 162 842 describes a cascade development device for an electrostatic copying machine, which has a collecting device for removing the carrier particles adhering to the surface of the photoconductor drum.
- the collecting device consists of a thin elastic material, for example plastic, which does not touch the photoconductor drum and has a collecting edge.
- the collecting edge of the sealing strip is arranged at an adjustable distance from the photoconductor drum, which corresponds to approximately one tenth to approximately half the diameter of the carrier particle. Additional wiping devices for the sealing strip are provided as little as a magnetic roller.
- U.S. Patent 3,884,571 relates to a developing device having a developer wiping device which extends in the form of a trough in the axial direction along a drum immediately below the space between a developing station and the photoconductive recording surface of the drum.
- the bottom surface of the trough includes an upward angled wiper lip located near the surface of the drum that catches the developer trickling down from the development station.
- the developer caught in the trough is conveyed to an outlet opening with the aid of an endless belt. There is no provision for the developer to be removed from the photoconductive recording layer by means of a magnetic roller.
- the object of the invention is to obtain the most uniform possible discharge of carrier particles over the squeegee length and to achieve a discharge value corresponding to the value in the center of the squeegee in the squeegee transition areas near the end faces of the magnetic brush roller.
- the two wipers are arranged in the direction of movement of the photoconductive recording layer after the development station.
- the advantage of the invention is that in the area of the doctor blade transition zones, a significantly lower proportion of carrier particles is discharged in comparison with known developing devices, so that a downstream magnetic wiper, in a static design, collects the low discharge in the center of the developing zone over long periods of time in a cost-effective manner. without having to be emptied because of overfilling, and that disturbances in other components of the copying machine, which are caused by carrier particles which adhere to the photoconductive recording layer, are largely avoided.
- the carrier particles are not removed from the recording layer after the development station, they cause local transmission disturbances, sand the fixing rollers of the copying machine and can penetrate into bearings which can thereby "seize up".
- a magnetic brush developing device 1 for an electrostatic copying machine shown in FIG. 1 is adjacent to a drum 2, the surface of which is provided with a photoconductive recording layer 3 and which rotates in the direction of the arrow P.
- the or the electrostatic charge images to be developed are located on the recording layer 3.
- the developer is known to consist of toner and carrier particles, which are generally magnetic.
- the electrostatic charge images attract the toner that adheres to them and develops the charge images into powder images.
- the carrier particles are discharged from the development area through the photoconductive recording layer 3 and are removed from the photoconductive recording layer 3 by a magnetic stripper 25 arranged after the developing device 1.
- the magnetic brush roller 4 rotates in the same direction of rotation as the drum 2, which rotates in the direction of the arrow P 'and carries on its surface a developer fur 5, which is wiped off by a doctor blade 6, which is shown horizontally in FIG. 1, but also in any other Direction to the surface of the magnetic brush roller 4 may be inclined.
- two elastic wipers 7 ′, 7 ′′ are arranged, which abut the photoconductive recording layer 3 and wipe the carrier particles 12 off the latter.
- the two wipers 7 ′, 7 ′′ consist of non-magnetic , elastic material, which rests on the photoconductive recording layer 3 so that its surface encloses an angle between 5 ° to 10 ° with the tangent t to the recording layer 3 at the point of contact of the wipers.
- the wipers 7 ', 7 "form an angle between 45 ° and 90 ° with the doctor blade 6.
- the storage container 15 for the developer supply 11 has a bent edge 13, on which the squeegee 6 and the wipers 7 ', 7 "are fastened by means of a screw 9.
- each wiper 7', 7" is made of two angled sheets 8, 8 'edged, of which the lower plate rests on the squeegee 6.
- In the edge 13 there is an elongated hole 26 so that it is possible to move the screw 9 in the elongated hole and thereby to change the distance of the doctor blade 6 from the surface of the magnetic brush roller 4.
- the surface of the cylinder sleeve 18 of the magnetic brush roller 4 is provided with grooves 14 which promote the development of the developer fur 5.
- the doctor blade 6 has a left transition zone 6 'or a right transition zone 6 ", these are the areas near the end faces 18', 18" of the cylinder sleeve 18.
- the scraper edge 27 of the doctor blade 6 is curved downward.
- each wiper 7', 7 covers the transition zone 6 'or 6 "of the doctor blade 6 outwards and inwards, the overlap inwards in the direction of the doctor blade.
- Center line 24 is at least 4 mm, while the overlap is generally 10 mm and larger.
- a wiper has the dimensions 18 mm x 2 mm and is 30 mm wide.
- the elastic wipers 7 ', 7 " prevent the discharge of carrier particles 12 from the photoconductive recording layer 3 in the area of the doctor blade transition zones 6 ', 6 ", so that the stripped carrier particles can be attracted by the magnetic field of the magnetic brush roller 4 with ease.
- FIG 3 shows the structure of the magnetic brush roller 4, which has magnets 17 within the cylinder sleeve 18 for generating the required magnetic field for the developer fur.
- a cover 20 closes off the developing device from above, while a side part 16 surrounds the storage container 15. An opening is provided between the side part 16 and the cover 20, in the area of which the magnetic brush roller 4 is arranged near the photoconductive recording layer 3.
- the side part 16 is connected to a base plate 22 which is fastened to a frame 23 by means of screws. Behind the magnetic brush roller 4 there is a collector 19, the stripping plate 21 of which runs tangentially to the surface of the cylinder sleeve 18 of the magnetic brush roller 4 in order to strip the developer fur, not shown, from its surface.
- the stripped developer passes from the collector 19 into a circulating device 28, for example a screw conveyor, which circulates the developer.
- doctor blade 6 and the wipers 7 ', 7 is similar to that in FIG. 1 and is therefore not described again.

Abstract
