Abstract

The method includes the steps of: receiving input data relating to the calculated or estimated position of the wellbore and the object, while the wellbore position contains the first set of parameters characterizing the first ellipse, and the object position contains the second set of parameters characterizing the second ellipse, calculating the expansion coefficient representing the value , to which one of the two ellipses or the first and second ellipses can be expanded with respect to one of the two corresponding sets or the first and second sets of ellipse parameters so that the first and second ellipses are in contact, while calculating the expansion coefficient involves calculating and solving a fourth degree equation based on on the geometry of the ellipses, and calculations based on the calculated spread factor of coordinates indicating the relative positions of the wellbore and the object.
