Description
The invention relates to a decorative element for memorial stones, in particular for tomb stones or columbarium walls, comprising a base part fixedly connectable to a memorial stone, including at least one hinged part pivotingly connected to the base part and displaceable from a first position to a second, folded-out position.
Columbaria are known above all in Southern countries. They can be called walls of remembrance or memorial walls, in which the urns of the deceased are accommodated and preserved in indentations. Each of the indentations, in this case, is closed by a cover plate. A disadvantage of such walls of remembrance or memorial walls is that gifts from family members devoted to commemorate the deceased, such as eternal light, a bunch of flowers or also other memorial objects, have to be set down or placed on the floor in front of the columbarium which indeed receives several urns which are each closed by a cover plate, or rather that there is no possibility for funeral rituals which can lead to helplessness when coping with bereavement.
British patent GB 1,003,236 A discloses a memorial stone which is provided with a metal plate for mounting inscriptions. On its rear side, the plate comprises a pocket-shaped holder into which a retaining arm is able to be inserted, on the front free end of which a ring is arranged to receive a vase.
European patent EP 1 408 178 B1 discloses a cover plate for memorial stones which avoids the disadvantages depicted above. In this case, a niche component is arranged in a cover plate, the niche being constituted by a rotary body which is retained so as to be pivotable on the plate. Mourning objects, such as, for example, candles, flowers or the like, can then be inserted into the niche and the niche or the rotary body can also be provided with an image of the deceased. Such cover plates according to EP 1 408 178 B1, however, are comparatively expensive to produce and are difficult to attach to a memorial stone subsequently.
German disclosure document DE 197 55063 A1 makes known a device provided for tomb stones among other things for retaining light elements, decorative materials or the like which comprises a base part which is firmly connectable to a tomb stone and at least one hinged part which is connected to the base part so as to be pivotable and is displaceable from a first into a second folded-out position. The hinged part is provided for receiving a candle. US patent US 4,790,088 discloses a decorative element for memorial stones which comprises a base part which is firmly connectable to a memorial stone and comprises at least one hinged part which is connected to the base part so as to be pivotable and is displaceable from a first position into a second folded-out position. The base part is provided for receiving a photograph and the hinged part is realized as a cover. The cover, in this case, is pivotably mounted on a top edge of the base part and as a result falls purely by force of weight from the second, folded-out position back into the first position in which the base part and at least a photograph arranged in the base part are essentially completely hidden.
An improved decorative element for memorial stones, in particular for tomb stones or columbarium walls, is to be created by way of the invention.
According to the invention, a decorative element for memorial stones, in particular for tomb stones or columbarium walls, is provided for this purpose, comprising a base part, fixedly connectable to a memorial stone, including at least one hinged part pivotingly connected to the base part and displaceable from a first position to a second, folded-out position, wherein the hinged part is annular in shape and the hinged part in its first position laterally encloses the base part.
By providing a hinged part, the decorative element according to the invention is usable in a multi-functional manner and, in particular, the hinged part and/or the base part can be used both as a purely decorative element and for receiving mourning objects. In the folded-out second position, said mourning objects can then be visible or set aside. The decorative element according to the invention can be used advantageously in particular in the case of columbarium walls where a uniform appearance is required, for example on account of a cemetery regulation. Said uniform appearance of all the memorial stones is ensured in the first position, however the respective hinged part is able to be folded-out in order to carry out mourning rituals or to put down flowers, keepsakes or the like. For example, an image of the deceased can also be arranged on the base part, said image then becoming visible as a result of folding-out the hinged part. The image of the deceased is not visible in the first position, however, thereby complying with usual cemetery regulations. Both the base part and the hinged part can be developed in a decorative manner in order to provide, for example, a decorative element in the form of a rosette or another such decorative object.
The annular hinged part constitutes a through-opening for receiving a flower vase, a candle or the like. By the annular hinged part in its first position laterally enclosing the base part, a very flat and space-saving arrangement is able to be achieved. The developments of the base part and the hinged part can also be matched to one another such that an elegant and decorative appearance is produced both in the first position and in the second position. For example, the base part can be realized as a blossom which is enclosed in the first position by the hinged part which is realized as a wreath.
In a further development of the invention, the hinged part in the first position is arranged essentially parallel to the base part. A very space-saving arrangement, which only protrudes from the front surface of the memorial stone by the thickness of the hinged part, is achieved in the first position in this way.

Flower vases, for example, are able to be inserted into such a through-opening and can then be fastened to the hinged part by way of their top, projecting edge. A centre of gravity of the flower vase can then be located below the receptacle such that a very sturdy arrangement is provided where the vase is unable to tip.
In a further development of the invention, the through-opening is enclosed by a re-entrant peripheral step on a side facing the base part in the first position.
Such a step can be provided on the one hand for receiving a peripheral edge of a vase. On the other hand, the bottom part of a funeral lantern can be fitted onto said re-entrant peripheral step. The peripheral, re-entrant step provides for secure locking of the most varied objects which simply have to comprise an outside edge adapted to the peripheral step.

In a further development of the invention, the hinged part and/or the base part are provided with a magnet in order to detachably fix the hinged part by means of magnetic force in the first position. A closure, which is structurally simple to realize and holds the hinged part reliably in the first position, is able to be achieved by means of magnets. Magnetic closures are comparatively tolerance-insensitive and can be mounted in a simple manner on the hinged part and/or the base part, for example by means of adhesive bonding.
In a further development of the invention, an articulated hinge between base part and hinged part, in addition to pivoting, allows at least in the first position a relative displacing motion between hinged part and base part.
In an advantageous manner, on the base part and/or on the hinged part a locking device is provided in order to lock the hinge part on the base part in the first position, in particular by means a relative displacement of base part and hinged part.
Simple locking can be provided in this manner and locking is possible as a result of simple displacement motion, for example, of the hinged part parallel to the base part.
In a further development of the invention, the locking device has an undercut on the hinged part and/or on the base part.

If a relative displacement between the base part and the hinged part is to be possible in addition to the pivoting movement, an elongated hole can be provided for the bearing arrangement of the pivot axis.

Fig. 1 shows a tomb decoration according to the invention or a decorative element 10, the decorative element 10 being in a first position in which only a hinged part 12 can be seen. The decorative element 10 is fastened on a memorial stone by way of the rear side, remote from the viewer in Fig. 1, of the non-visible base part. Such fastening can typically be effected as a result of the base part being provided with a protruding threaded bolt which is then adhesively bonded into a bore in the memorial stone.
The hinged part 12 is shown in the form of a blossom and consists of cast bronze. As has already been mentioned, the hinged part 12 covers the base part completely in the first folded-in position shown in Fig. 1.
The representation in Fig. 2 shows the tomb decoration 10 of Fig. 1 in the second, folded-out position. In said folded-out position, it is also possible to see a base part 14 along with the hinged part 12. The base part 14 is fastened on a vertical front surface of a simply schematically indicated memorial stone 16 by way of its rear side which is remote from the viewer.
As can be seen, the front surface, facing the viewer, of the base part 14 is also developed in the form of a blossom. The hinged part 12 is shell-shaped and, as a result, provides a receptacle 18 for the most varied objects in the folded-out second position, ι-or example, mourning oDjecis are aDie 10 De piacea in me receptacle 18, for example stones, keepsakes or the like. In addition, a candle or an eternal light can be arranged in the receptacle 18. Finally, it is easily possible to place a flower vase into the receptacle 18. The receptacle 18 comprises a peripheral edge 20 which prevents objects arranged in the receptacle 18 from sliding or falling out. A floor 22 of the receptacle 18 is provided centrally with a first magnet 24 which is admitted in an essentially flush manner in the floor 22. A front side, facing the viewer, of the base part 14 is provided centrally with a second magnet 26. In the first position with the hinged part 12 folded-in, the two magnets 24, 26 are located opposite one another and are attracted on account of the suitably chosen polarity. As a result of the magnetic force between the magnets 24, 26, the hinged part 12 is consequently held more securely in the first position shown in Fig. 1 and can only be folded-out into the second position shown in Fig. 2 once said magnetic force has been overcome. The magnets 24, 26 can easily contact one another in the first position, however, on account of the magnetic force also acting at a certain distance, tolerance compensation is also easily possible.
The base part 14 is provided with a projection 28 which extends radially outward from a disc-shaped basic body of the base part 14. Said projection 28 is encompassed by a fork-shaped recess in the peripheral edge of the hinged part 12. A pivot axis, not shown, runs through the oppositely situated side walls, which laterally enclose the recess, in the edge of the hinged part 12 as well as through the end of the projection 28 of the base part 14 and as a result pivotably connects the hinged part 12 to the base part 14.
Both the base part 14 and the hinged part 12 are realized as cast bronze parts.
The representation in Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of a decorative element 30 according to the invention which is arranged on the vertical front face of a memorial stone 32. The decorative element 30 comprises a base part 34 which is connected fixedly to the memorial stone 32 by way of its rear side remote from tne viewer in ι-ig. ό. a Trom siae, Tacing ine viewer, ot me Dase pari is aevei-oped in a three-dimensional manner in the form of a rose blossom. The base part 34 is enclosed in an annular manner by a hinged part 36 which is developed in a three-dimensional manner as a wreath. In the first position shown in Fig. 3, the hinged part 36 is arranged essentially parallel to the base part 34 and also fits closely at least in portions on the front surface of the memorial stone 32.
The representation in Fig. 4 shows the decorative element 30 in a second, folded-out position of the hinged part 36. The position of the base part 34 is unchanged, the hinged part 36 is now, however, essentially arranged perpendicular to the base part 34 as well as to the front surface of the memorial stone 32 which is not shown in Fig. 4.
The base part 34 is realized in an annular manner and comprises a through-opening 38. A peripheral, re-entrant step 40, which constitutes a support for objects to be inserted, adjoins the through-opening 38 in the hinged part 36. Said re-entrant step 40 is easy to see in the sectioned view of Fig. 6 on the sectional plane VI indicated by the broken line in Fig. 4. Proceeding from a top edge 42 of the hinged part 36, which can be seen in Fig. 4, a cylinder wall extends downward in an approximately perpendicular manner and then merges, in turn, into a horizontally extending circular ring area. A vertically downwardly extending cylinder wall then connects again to the circular ring area. An essentially peripheral, reentrant step 40 is created in this way in the region of the hinged part 36 connecting to the through-opening 38. A candle or an eternal light can be arranged securely on the hinged part 36 provided that the diameter of the bottom part of said eternal light is adapted to the step 40. Flowever, correspondingly dimensioned shells, holders or the like, for example, can also be inserted into the through-opening 38 in order to arrange the most varied objects on the hinged part 36. Magnets 43,45 are provided in order to hold the hinged part 36 in the first position in Fig. 3.
The representation in Fig. 5 shows the decorative element 30 in the second position of Fig. 4, a flower vase 44 being inserted into the hinged part 36. The flower vase 44 comprises a cylindrical Dasic Doay ana a top eage 4b wnicn proiruaes radially outward. An outside diameter of the edge 46 is matched to the peripheral step 40 in the hinged part 36 such that the flower vase 44 is able to be securely fastened on the hinged part 36. The vase 44, in this case, is inserted in a very simple manner from above into the through-opening 38 of the hinged part 36. The vase 44 is then able to be removed again in the reverse direction.
The representation in Fig. 7 shows a decorative element 50 according to a third embodiment of the invention. In the representation in Fig. 6, the tomb decoration 50 is situated in the first, folded-in position such that it is only possible to see a hinged part 52 which completely covers a base part arranged behind it.
The representation in Fig. 8 shows the decorative element 50 in the second, folded-out position in which it is now possible to see a base part 54. The base part 54 is realized in a frame-like manner and it is possible to arrange, for example, an image of a deceased in a central region. In the first position according to Fig. 6, said image is then completely hidden such that usual cemetery regulations are able to be met.
In the second, folded-out position according to Fig. 8, mourning objects are able to be placed into the hinged part 52, which is then arranged essentially perpendicular to the base part 54 and is realized in a shell-like manner. These mourning objects can be, for example, candles, flowers, stones or the like.
The base part 54 can be provided with a magnet 58 which is able to interact in the first position with a magnet arranged in the hinged part 52. The decorative element 50 according to Fig. 7 and Fig. 8, however, is also realized such that the hinged part 52 and the base part 54 are able to carry out not only a pivoting motion with respect to one another, but additionally also another displacement motion with respect to one another. The base part 54 is provided with a projection 60 which extends downward proceeding from the base part 54. The free end of said projection 60 is encompassed by a fork-shaped portion of the hinged part 52 and a pivot axis runs through the legs of said fork-shaped portion. In order then to maKe possoe a aispiacemem motion in aaamon to ine pivoting motion, tne projection 60, as can be seen in Fig. 9, is provided with an elongated hole 62, through which the pivot axis (not shown) extends. Both in the first position and in the second folded-out position, the hinged part 52 is consequently able to be displaced parallel to the extension of the elongated hole 62 relative to the base part 54. In the folded-in position, gravitational force takes care of the hinged part 52 assuming a defined, sturdy position relative to the base part 54.
Said displacement possibility between the base part 54 and the hinged part 52 can be utilized to realize a locking closure between the base part 54 and the hinged part 52.
As can be seen in the representation of a detail in Fig. 10, a peripheral edge of the base part 54 is realized at least in its top region 64 with an undercut such that the protruding edge therefore protrudes beyond the edge abutting against the memorial stone. The top region 66 of the hinged part 52 can then be suspended over said undercut region 64. The top region 66 of the hinged part 52 is also provided, on its inside surface which is not visible per se in the representation in Fig. 10, with an undercut which is indicated by a broken line such that the edge located closer to the base part 54 is therefore located further down than the edge located further away from the base part 54. In the completely folded-in position, the top portion 66 of the hinged part 52 consequently rests on the top portion 64 of the base part 54 and is held on the base part 54 as a result of the inclined, undercut development of the portions 64, 66. In order to fold-out the hinged part 52, said hinged part must first of all be displaced upward relative to the base part 54 in the direction of an arrow 68. As soon as the hinged part 52 is free of the top portion 64 of the base part 54, it can then be folded-out in the direction of the curved arrow 70. A reliable locking closure which is simple to operate is provided in this manner. A front side of the hinged part 52 is developed in a three-dimensional manner as a leaf.
