Description
BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLANDFEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY
Tag der Anmeldung: 3. Januar 1952 Bekanntgemacht am 27. Oktober 1955Registration date: January 3, 1952. Advertised on October 27, 1955
DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
The German patent specification 445 390 describes the preparation of a naphthostyril sulfonic acid (See Example 8), in which the sulfone group is assumed to be in the 4-position. From meanwhile performed own constitutional examinations for naphthostyril sulfonic acid is closed conclude that the view about the 4-position of the sulfone group can be regarded as certain. The industrially important 2-amino-naphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid to be prepared from the sulfonic acid mentioned has not yet been described in the literature.
Our own experiments, this compound by introducing the amino group in the 2-position of the naphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid to be obtained by the methods customary in preparatory chemistry, for example on the preparation of an azo dye or a nitro compound have encountered difficulties. In contrast to the similarly constituted naphthsultam-4-sulfonic acid does not couple naphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid with diazo compounds. When acting from nitric acid to sulfonic acid, the sulfonic acid group is partially eliminated. In addition to small amounts of 2-nitronaphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid, this is formed considerable amounts of sulfonic acid group-free and more highly nitrated by-products.

It has now been found that 2-aminonaphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid and its sulfone derivatives are in good condition. 1 can be prepared by first converting the naphthoslynl-4-sulfonic acid or its alkali metal salts into the sulfochloride by methods known per se, nitrating this to 2-nitro-naphthostyril-4-sulfochloriu, expediently in the presence of glacial acetic acid as the solvent, the 2 -Nitronaphthostyril-4-sulfoehlorid hydrolyzed with alkali metal hydroxides or with reactive groups revealing compounds in sulfone derivatives, z. B. their amides or lister, transferred and the resulting 2-Ni (ro-naphthostyril-4-sulfonic acid or its sulfone derivatives reduced, advantageously with hydrogen under pressure and using a nickel catalyst.

While the reaction mixture is cooling, 100 ecm of water are added to it, a clear solution initially being formed from which, after a short time, the free 2-nitro-naphthiostyril-4-sulfonic acid which is formed as a result of hydrolysis of the pyridine salt
