Description
Four-stroke internal combustion engine for vehicle operation with an exhaust gas turbine and centrifugal compressor existing turbocharger The difficulty of exhaust gas turbocharging for vehicle engines is that already at low engine speeds and accordingly low gas throughputs generated by the charging group sufficiently high boost pressures must be without then with the high gas throughputs of the high engine speeds the exhaust gas turbocharger is overloaded, d. H. too high speeds reached. Around To avoid this, it is already known to use air or exhaust gas at high engine speeds blow off. In addition to the need for the arrangement of special regulating organs, this path has the disadvantage that the energy balance of the unit is poor at high engine speeds will. It is also known to use a nozzle regulation in such a way that the Turbine nozzle is made adjustable, taking place at low engine speeds the guide channels are narrowed and expanded at high engine speeds. This type of regulation has in addition to the difficulties caused by the adjustment mechanism of the high temperatures exposed guide vanes are conditional, the disadvantage that because of inevitable Gap on the turbine diffuser shows the degree of efficiency, especially when the gas throughput is low gets particularly bad.
According to the invention, in contrast, four-stroke internal combustion engine and exhaust gas turbocharger so designed and coordinated that the Exhaust gas turbocharger not only depending on the engine torque, but also on the engine speed regulates itself in such a way that a characteristic favorable for vehicle operation is achieved.
It is now known per se that a high boost pressure is present in vehicle operation must be achieved even at low engine speeds, d. H. that the loader is smaller is to be interpreted as it is necessary for the nominal or maximum power of the engine were. The best efficiency of the charger is then proportionate in the area small air throughputs, while in the area of high air throughputs at full power the efficiency is much lower. Since the vehicle engine usually only lasts for a short time with its maximum output, otherwise mostly with a 30% lower output is operated, it is therefore advisable to design the charging unit so that its Compressor efficiency optimum at a maximum of 70% of the air throughput at maximum output the internal combustion engine. Good efficiency with small gas throughputs conditional a relatively high boost pressure even at low engine speeds, whereby is considered sufficient for vehicle operation if the loader is at full engine torque and 70% of the maximum engine speed a boost pressure ratio of at least 1.25 generated. On the other hand, it has poor efficiency at high gas throughputs The result is that the turbine does not run away at the high engine speeds.
It is also known in four-stroke internal combustion engines to have cylinders with 18o ° crank angle and more ignition interval with a common exhaust line to provide. At this distance in the exhaust sequence, the pressure is in the exhaust line in every operating state of the engine sufficiently degraded to withstand large overlap the valve opening times to enable good purging of the combustion chamber.
A four-stroke internal combustion engine operated with exhaust gas turbocharging with those described above, individually or in combinations known features will now be characterized according to the invention in terms of their elasticity that improves the cross-section of the exhaust pipe in relation to the maximum geometric Cross section of the exhaust valve or the exhaust valves of a cylinder smaller than i, namely so small that the opening of the exhaust valve or the exhaust valves Pressure of the exhaust shock arising in the exhaust line up to the opening of the Inlet valve is so far degraded that at low engine speeds a large Flushing gradient and at higher engine speeds a small flushing gradient is created. at the charging according to the invention thus becomes the requirement for flushing of the combustion chamber not abandoned, but limited by only working at low engine speeds special emphasis is placed on the conditioner. This makes it possible to use the exhaust valve to close earlier (about 1o to 3o ° after T.D.) than with the known charging is otherwise common (5o to 70 ° after O. T.). As a result, it may be possible to combine four cylinders in one exhaust pipe. If only in the low Engine speed range, special emphasis is placed on flushing the combustion chamber, is the air expenditure (this is the ratio of the enforced by the engine Air volume to stroke volume in the unit of time) at low engine speeds better than at high engine speeds. The consequence of this, in turn, is less Difference in gas flow rates per work cycle at low and high engine speeds, This also results in a smaller difference in boost pressures and turbo speeds results in these two operating states.
Regarding the dimensioning of the exhaust line, the following is also important. to point out: It is known per se that the exhaust pipe on the one hand as possible should be tight so that it is strong. Form pressure waves, the pressure valleys to Flushing are used and the pressure peaks to increase the exhaust gas turbine contributed energy. On the other hand, however, the lines are not allowed become too narrow, so that the friction losses occurring as a result of the high gas velocity don't get too big. There are already experiments and theoretical discussions on the appropriate dimensioning of the exhaust pipe cross-sections in relation to the maximum valve opening cross-sections have been employed, with also ratio values under 1 were taken into account. On the basis of these experiments and theoretical discussions However, the useful and common rule that emerged was the cross-sections of the exhaust pipes to be made slightly larger than the largest cross-sections of the exhaust valves. In the Charging according to the invention is therefore deliberately omitted and this interpretation made the cross section smaller. As a result, the high gas throughput is required for the high gas throughput The engine speed has already fallen below the optimum rating, d. i.e., the efficiency is deteriorated in this area. This is desirable so that the speed of the The exhaust gas turbocharger does not grow too much with the increasing gas throughput. Both However, the flow velocity is lower due to the lower gas throughput at low engine speeds smaller, and in this area there can therefore be a narrowing of the exhaust pipe without adverse effect can still be accepted. This sizing also affects on the conditioner. At low engine speeds, the time interval is the individual successive exhaust shocks relatively large, and the pressure the exhaust surge is reduced sufficiently until the inlet valve opens, so that an effective flushing of the combustion chamber can take place. At high Engine speed, on the other hand, is the chronological sequence of the individual exhaust shocks smaller, so that it is no longer sufficient to reduce the pressure in the exhaust line There remains time and the purging and thus the gas throughput at high engine speeds is worsened = For further explanation are the effects the invention on the basis of graphic representations those known designs juxtaposed. The diagrams show the characteristics map of a turbocharger compressor in FIG for a four-stroke internal combustion engine according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows the pressure curve in an exhaust pipe in the usual design, with three cylinders have a common exhaust pipe, Fig. 3 and q. the pressure curve at lower and higher speed in the exhaust line of a four-stroke internal combustion engine Exhaust gas turbocharging according to the invention, in which also three cylinders in one exhaust common line, FIG. 5 shows the pressure curve analogous to FIG four cylinders share a common exhaust pipe.
In the diagram of FIG. I, the adiabatic head is on the ordinate Had in mkg / kg and the delivery rate per time unit Q in m3 / sec on the abscissa. Here a denotes the surge limit, curves b are lines of constant loading speed, the curves c are lines of constant efficiency, d mean the absorption lines for constant engine speeds and e the charge pressure curve or the operating line of the supercharger for full torque depending on the engine speed. After the known designs, the operating line of the charger intersects the efficiency lines c ("egg curves") near the vertices. In contrast, the operating line runs e is flatter, it has, so to speak, been rotated to the right, so that the loader relatively higher at low engine speeds and relatively higher at high engine speeds delivers lower pressures. The maximum speed of the engine is z. B. 2000 rpm, the optimum efficiency of the charger is around the engine absorption line of around i2oo rpm. With the charger, which is actually too small for full power, the desired Maximum performance can still be achieved because the boost pressure is at high engine speeds is always sufficient if it is sufficient at low engine speeds. Of course must be used to generate a sufficiently high boost pressure at low engine speeds also the cross-sections of the stator and impeller of the turbine for the corresponding gas flow rates be measured.
The characteristics map of FIG. I is characterized by the flat course of the speed characteristics b as well as a relatively large overall width, d. i.e., the lines are constant Efficiencies c are not crowded together, but have a relatively large distance from each other. These properties of the charger are beneficial in that than the boost pressure, which increases with the engine speed, there is no great increase in the Requires loading speed and the large map width the use of the loader in allows a large range of gas throughput. The broad map can be reached is known by the fact that the diffuser connected downstream of the compressor rotor designed as a vaneless diffuser. In Fig. 2 to 5, the line p ″ shows the pressure curve in the exhaust pipe. The boost pressure is specified with pj. The opening times (in crank angles) the exhaust and intake valves are indicated by heavy lines A and indicated by the stitched line E. The overlap of these lines represents the valve overlap time s1, s2, s3. The digits I designate the bottom dead center position and II the top dead center position of the piston.
The diagram in FIG. 2 shows a broad overlap area which is almost symmetrical to the TDC position of the piston s1 with a large scavenging gradient that extends over the entire operating range of the engine should be maintained. 3 shows the pressure curve in a comparative Exhaust pipe with a cross-section smaller than the maximum outlet cross-section of the valve or valves of a cylinder at an engine speed which is less than the speed corresponding to the optimum efficiency of the charger. Form here too strong pressure valleys emerge. The valve overlap time s2 is opposite the usual interpretation s1 shortened. Nevertheless, there is a sufficient rinsing gradient for the The residual gases are flushed out of the cylinder. Fig. D. shows the same pressure curve at a higher engine speed, at which no so strong pressure valleys develop more and consequently the flushing compared to the customary execution is reduced. The intended effect can be achieved through valve overlap be supported, in which the inlet valve is significantly earlier before 0T. (around 40 up to 70 ° before TDC) opens as the outlet valve after TDC (about io to 30 ° after O. T.) closes. In this case, the valve overlap is asymmetrical to the O. T. The pressure diagram of FIG. 5 finally shows that also with Connection of four cylinders to an exhaust pipe no significant disturbance of the Flushing occurs through the exhaust surge of the cylinder closest in the firing order.
In special cases in which the deterioration in efficiency im The upper speed range of the engine does not provide adequate protection against runaway the turbine offers, the safety can be achieved that one of the turbine blades with a low degree of reaction, e.g. B. less than 5o% interprets.
In the introduction and in connection with Fig. I it was explained that by the aforementioned design of the engine and exhaust gas turbocharger in the lower speed range of the engine, the boost pressure and thus the cylinder charge increases. The bigger one Excess air in turn brings an improvement in the engine efficiency and thus a slight increase in engine output even with a constant amount of fuel. Of the However, a larger excess of air now also offers the possibility. at low 1Iotor speeds Increase the performance significantly by regulating the amount of fuel in the way takes place that at low engine speeds a larger amount of fuel per stroke is fed to the cylinders than at high engine speeds.
