Abscheider für von Abwasser mitgeführte organische LeichtstoffeSeparator for organic light substances carried by wastewater
These separators, which are standardized in DIN 4040 in terms of surface area, total volume and height of the grease collecting layer, contain a downward-facing inlet that is immersed at least 250 mm into the separator filling and an opposite, upward-facing outlet that is at least 600 mm below the water level. This inlet direction is intended to prevent short-circuit flows to the outlet. The low-lying outlet holds back the floating layer of grease. Recently, there has been a desire to provide a grease separator for DIN 4040

These grease separators should also take up little space. The proportional reduction in the surface and the total volume would not provide the required separation efficiency because the further shortened flow path would not give all light materials the opportunity to float. The task of providing a grease separator of smaller nominal sizes with reduced dimensions is now surprisingly solved by the new design in that there is a transverse upright overflow wall in the flow path between the inlet and outlet, which extends from the bottom of the separator tank to at least the height of the connecting line between the inlet and outlet. This new installation element means that the flow has to take a longer path, especially upwards, where the light materials have to go anyway. This new design improves the separation efficiency despite the spatial reduction of the separator. Such a spill wall is unknown in separators for organic light materials. Efforts have been made in the recent past to improve the separation efficiency of grease separators of smaller nominal sizes. For example, DE-OS 42 15 470 discloses an inlet attached tangentially to a circular separator tank and a spiral guide wall to the outlet arranged in the center. This design results in multiple circulation of the waste water in the separator tank. However, such a spiral guide wall is very complex and also hinders the removal of the separated fats.
These disadvantages do not occur with the new grease separator with overflow wall. According to a preferred design of the innovation, it is advantageous to install a small flow opening in the overflow wall at the bottom. When the separator contents are sucked out of the area behind the overflow wall, the rest of the separator contents flow through this opening and are sucked out as well. So that the flow opening does not provoke a short-circuit flow to the outlet, the inlet is designed in accordance with the innovation in such a way that the inlet flow is split into two opposing partial flows, which then have to cross the overflow wall outside the flow opening. The inlet channel, which is directed vertically towards the separator bottom, therefore ends on the inside at the separator bottom and has two opposing outlet openings. In order to hydraulically optimize the division into two partial flows, a further design of the innovation proposes installing a wedge-shaped flow divider between the outlet openings. The drawings show a preferred embodiment of the innovation in longitudinal section (Fig. 1), cross section (Fig. 2) and top view (Fig. 3). The top view is drawn without a cover, so it shows the internals in perspective. The example is a portable grease separator of nominal size 1 with a removable cover and an almost square base.
The prismatic separator tank 1 contains inlet and outlet connection pieces 2, 3 for the sleeveless connection with the inlet and outlet lines.

The connection nozzles are located opposite each other on the two walls. The drain nozzle 3 has the height difference specified in DIN 4040, which determines the water level 4 in the separator. The separator tank 1 is closed by a lid 5, which is provided with handles 6 and secured with clamps 7. The separator tank has four handles 8, which enable it to be carried away and used, for example, at festivals and in mobile dishwashing units.
The inlet nozzle 2 is followed by the inlet channel 9, which runs vertically and is connected to the housing wall. The wall of the inlet channel directed towards the middle of the tank runs uninterrupted to the bottom of the tank, while the other two walls end above the bottom and form the two outlet openings 10. Between the two openings there is a wedge-shaped flow divider 11. Approximately in the middle of the horizontal flow path there is an overflow wall 12 attached to the bottom of the tank, which reaches to about half the height of the separator filling and has a small flow opening 13 at the bottom. From the flow arrows shown in the views it can be seen that the flow opening is not critical during operation and does not cause any short-circuit flow.
The outlet channel 14 is arranged in the conventional manner in front of the outlet nozzle 3 and is designed as a pipe closed on three sides. Just like the inlet channel, it is open at the top so that the inlet and outlet lines are connected to one another via the air space in the separator and a full filling of the lines cannot lead to the separator being drained dry.
