Katalvsatoranordnunq für den Sicherheitsbehälter eines LeichtwasserreaktorsCatalytic converter arrangement for the containment vessel of a light water reactor
Die Erfindung betrifft eine Katalysatoranordnung für einen Sicherheitsbehälter eines LeichtwasserreaktorsThe invention relates to a catalyst arrangement for a containment vessel of a light water reactor
a) mit einem Katalysator, der die Oxidation von Wasserstoff zu Wasser begünstigt, dera) with a catalyst that promotes the oxidation of hydrogen to water, the
b) auf ein poröses Trägermaterial aufgezogen ist undb) is applied to a porous carrier material and
c) mit der Atmosphäre des Sicherheitsbehälters in Kontakt steht.c) is in contact with the atmosphere of the containment vessel.
Such catalyst arrangements are intended to be used to retrofit the containment vessels of light water reactors. In the event of serious accidents, large amounts of hydrogen are released in the containment vessel as a result of reactions between the nuclear fuel melt and the cladding material with water and concrete. The catalyst arrangements are intended to ensure that the released hydrogen is oxidized to water with the oxygen in the atmosphere of the containment vessel even at non-critical concentrations. This eliminates the risk of a hydrogen explosion. A catalyst is required for the oxidation of the hydrogen, which promotes the formation of water at low temperatures and hydrogen concentrations. Platinum and palladium in particular are proposed as catalyst metals, and granular fillings of materials with a large internal surface area are proposed as carrier materials.
However, aerosol physics considerations show that in parallel to the hydrogen-producing reactions, large quantities of particulate pollutants are released in an accident, which inhibit the surface of the catalysts after a short time by depositing. In particular, iron particles, soot and droplets of recondensing oils, fats and water are to be mentioned here. Therefore, there is a risk that the known catalyst arrangements could be damaged in the event of an accident.
fall nicht ausreichend lange wirksam sind. Dieser Gesichtspunkt scheint bisher nicht genügend berücksichtigt worden zu sein.case, they are not effective for a sufficiently long period of time. This aspect does not seem to have been sufficiently taken into account so far.
Es wird erwähnt, daß ein solcher Katalysator gegen säure- oder laugehaltige Aerosole beständig sei.EP 0 467 110 A1 discloses a catalyst for removing hydrogen from an atmosphere containing hydrogen, oxygen and steam, which consists of a catalytically active metal applied in the form of a layer to carrier materials such as sheet metal, fabric, mesh or granulate, whereby the layer of the catalytically active metal and the carrier materials are matched to one another in terms of their coefficients of expansion. Sheet metal made of a low-alloy, ferritic steel is preferred as the carrier material. The sheet metal should be sandblasted before the layer of the catalytically active metal is applied in order to increase the surface area, among other things. It is mentioned that such a catalyst is resistant to aerosols containing acid or alkali.
The statement that the catalyst is resistant to aerosols containing acid or alkali can only refer to the chemical resistance of the material. Such a catalyst is not destroyed by alkalis and acids, but is rendered ineffective by the formation of a thin liquid film on its surface. Since the hydrogen is practically insoluble in water and aqueous solutions, it can no longer come into contact with the catalytically active metal in this case.
The task is to counteract the risk that the catalyst becomes ineffective due to the deposition of aerosols and to propose a corresponding improvement based on a catalyst arrangement of the type mentioned above.
The object is achieved according to the invention by the characterized feature of the first protection claim. The dependent claims describe preferred embodiments of the invention.
According to the invention, the catalyst is in contact with the atmosphere of the containment vessel via a filter layer made of a metal fiber fabric and/or metal fiber fleece; therefore, the particulate pollutants are retained by the metal fiber fabric and metal fiber fleece before they can come into contact with the catalyst. Metal fiber fabrics are particularly suitable for retaining the aforementioned particulate pollutants because they have a very low flow resistance and thus allow the formation of a reaction-related, passively generated thermal convection flow through which large quantities of gas reach the area of the catalyst for conversion. Despite the low flow resistance, the pollutant particles are effectively retained on the metal fiber fabric and/or metal fiber fleece; the contact of gases, in particular hydrogen and oxygen, with the catalyst by diffusion is nevertheless not significantly impaired due to the low flow resistance.
Preferably, the metal fiber fabric and/or metal fiber fleece is made of a high-melting, corrosion-resistant metal so that the arrangement remains effective for as long as possible in the event of an accident. Metal fiber fabric made of stainless steel is suitable, for example. The filter effect is improved if the fibers are of different thicknesses.
A catalyst arrangement in modular form is preferred, wherein the module consists of a frame with two open sides, which surrounds the catalyst and wherein the two open sides of the frame are each closed off by a layer of the metal fiber fabric and/or metal fiber fleece.
The frame is preferably also made of a high-melting, corrosion-resistant metal such as stainless steel, so that it lasts as long as possible in the event of an accident.
It is particularly preferred to design the frame in the form of an elongated cuboid with two smaller front surfaces and two larger, long side surfaces, with one of the front surfaces being provided as the base surface. Such a module therefore has a column-shaped shape. Such a shape and arrangement of the module is particularly advantageous because water and other liquids that are retained in the form of aerosols in the metal fiber fabric and/or the metal fiber fleece can drain downwards without a higher differential pressure being created in a significant part of the metal fiber fabric or fleece due to liquid accumulation. Such a module is therefore still effective even in an atmosphere loaded with water vapor and water aerosols. In addition, particulate deposits can be washed away by the draining liquid.
The reliability of the catalyst arrangement is improved if not just one but several such modules are provided. The modules should be arranged at such a distance from each other that the flow of the atmosphere between the modules is not obstructed. The mutual distance can be between 1 and 10 cm.
Preferably, the modules are arranged in a grid pattern in at least one plane, so that parallel rows of modules are formed. Several such parallel rows can be arranged one above the other. The spaces between the individual modules allow the gases to pass through the entire arrangement with almost no resistance, thus allowing for rapid and powerful thermal convection in the event of an accident.
To ensure that the catalyst does not become unusable prematurely at high temperatures in the containment vessel, a bed of ceramic particles with a large internal surface should be used as the carrier material. Aluminum oxide is a temperature-resistant carrier material.
If the catalyst contains silver, airborne iodine can be bound at the same time.
A filter layer consisting of a layer of metal fiber fabric and a layer of metal fiber fleece is particularly effective. The layer of metal fiber fleece is preferably facing the catalyst.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the figure.
Die Pfeile geben die Vorzugsrichtung der Gasströmung an.A module 1 is shown, which occupies the nth position in a series of modules. The neighboring modules at the positions (n+1) and (n-1) are indicated. The module consists of a frame 2, the open sides of which are closed with a metal fiber fabric 3.
