The previous fuses for electrical lines, such as lead fuses, suffer from two Mistakes. The high temperatures necessary to melt a Lead streaks are always a source of danger and often cause it Accidents given. But they are also the cause of unsafe work of the fuses, which is shown by the fact that the melting off does not occur at a specific one Temperature and not at a certain amperage. In a word, the previous fuses are not working precisely. In contrast, the new fuse should already be in Taking action and using a lower temperature are all sources of error; Which have a disruptive effect, exclude.
Fig. 1 und 2 zeigen die Sicherung. The principle on which the operation of the fuse is based, and which is assumed to be known, is that paraffin or a corresponding insulator with a low melting point is touched by the fuse conductor, that the conductor of the fuse consists of mercury or such a conductor, so that as soon as the paraffin melts, the line is immediately interrupted by the flowing of the mercury. It is clear that in this way the temperature at which the intended effect occurs is that of the melting paraffin respectively. Insulator, and that the fuse itself - with the exception of the spark point - is not hotter than this temperature. It should be noted that most of the accidents are not caused by the spark itself, but rather by the quantities of molten metal, such as lead, or whatever may be used for safety. The invention of the present patent lies in the special device that this fuse can be replaced by the arrangement of plugs. How this invention can be designed in practice is to be shown in the drawing and the following description. Fig. 1 and 2 show the fuse. On the right and left of a base plate α , two stands b 1 and δ 2 made of brass rise, between which a body c made of hard rubber, cellular horn (celluloid), porcelain, glass or any other insulator is inserted. A conical plug e, which is drawn in FIG. 3 for different current intensities, fits in the middle of this. This plug has a central bore, widened at the top and bottom, which is filled in the middle with paraffin or a mixture of fat d, and is drilled through at the side together with the paraffin, so that a canal i arises which connects with bores f in the hard rubber body stands. The mercury is introduced through small openings g and fills the cavity in the hard rubber body c and in the paraffin plug. As soon as the current strength has exceeded a certain level, the mercury in the bore i will heat up, the paraffin will melt and, as a result, the mercury will be removed through the resulting opening.
fliefsen. To replace it after the effect has taken place, it is only necessary to insert a new plug and, by turning the screw h, to displace enough mercury that the opening in the hard rubber body c and the paraffin is filled again.
