von etwa 9o °/a.
Process for the wet cleaning of distillation gases The subject of patent 832-65o is a process for the removal of naphthalene from distillation gases, in which the gases are washed with a chromic acid solution. This is a fine cleaning of gases that have previously been freed from ammonia, benzene and sulfur in the usual way. A fairly high chromic acid content of more than ro ° / a, preferably about 14%, is required in the washing liquid for adequate naphthalene purification. For quantitative naphthalene removal, the chromic acid content must be about 20%, corresponding to a free oxygen content of 48 g per liter of washing liquid. It has now been found that with a higher concentration of the chromic acid solution, in addition to the naphthalene, the cyan (HCN) and the hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) contained in the gas are largely washed out as well. If you use a sufficient amount of chromic acid for the quantitative purification of naphthalene, you will achieve a leaching of cyano and hydrogen sulfide of about 90 ° / a. The distillation gases pretreated in the usual way contain, on average, 0.6 to ig / m3 cyan and 6 to 20 g / roo m3 hydrogen sulphide.
Regenerierung mittels elektrolytischer Oxydation. It has also been found that some addition of free sulfuric acid
to the washing liquid loosens the structure of the chromic acid, so that one with
lesser
Reduce the chromic acid concentration and use up the washing liquid to a greater extent
can. Their regeneration or the increase in their concentration then takes place through
Addition of free chromic acid, suitable chromium oxides or hydroxides and then
Regeneration by means of electrolytic oxidation.
und der Restgehalt an H2 S zwischen 6 und i i g/ioo m3.The gas scrubbing itself and the regeneration of the scrubbing liquid can be carried out under any pressure. Washing under pressure is particularly advisable if the distillation gases for long-distance pipelines are already compressed to long-distance gas pressure. EXEMPLARY EMBODIMENT A coke oven gas was saturated with naphthalene at about 20 ° C. and passed through a scrubber exposed to packing in countercurrent to the scrubbing liquid. The residence time of the gas in the scrubber was 10 to 2 seconds, the amount of scrubbing liquid was 2 to 15 liters / m 3 of gas. The HCN content of the colder's gas was between 0.6 and 1 g / m 3 and the residual H2 S content between 6 and 100 m 3.

The concentration of the chromic acid solution required for extensive or quantitative purification of naphthalene, cyano and hydrogen sulfide from the distillation gases depends on the nature and residence time of the gas in the scrubber and on the amount of scrubbing liquid used in the circuit. It can easily be determined by experiments of the type described above. In general, it is found that below a certain concentration, which is kept within narrow limits, the cleaning effect of the chromic acid solution drops sharply, but above this limit it increases only relatively slowly: The minimum concentration of the chromic acid solution determined in this way is used in most cases for fine cleaning the distillation gases are sufficient.
