Description
Photosensitive Layers Containing Diazo Compounds The invention relates to new photosensitive layers for the diazotype, with which positive copies can be made can be produced.
It has been found that diazo compounds of aminohydroquinone dialkyl ethers with an etherified mercapto group in the p-position to the diazo group as a substituent can be used excellently for the diazotype. These are particularly useful Compounds of the type mentioned in which the etherified mercapto group is a thioalkyl group is. The two alkyl groups bonded to oxygen and the one to sulfur bonded alkyl groups should preferably not have more than 4 carbon atoms contain. The alkyl groups, especially the alkyl groups linked to the sulfur, can also carry substituents, e.g. B. the oxy group or the carboxyl group. Possibly the benzene nucleus can also contain further substituents. It is advisable however, when inserting substituents into the molecule, care should be taken that the Solubility of the diazo compounds in water is not impaired.
Have the mentioned diazo compounds that are necessary for the diazotype desirable properties to a very high degree. They are. very strongly colored so that you can bleach the with them. produced photosensitive layers can follow very well. The diazo verbs unite. furthermore a high sensitivity to light with an excellent shelf life. The photosensitive ones made with them Layers can therefore be stored easily and only need one very much short exposure time. The breaks obtained with the photosensitive layers show - when using suitable azo components, e.g. B. phloroglucin, very dark lines: on and are also characterized by a pure background. To be highlighted is still the .good water solubility of the diazo compounds, especially the good solubility the zinc chloride double salts particularly suitable for the diazotype.
In. The uiazo compounds used according to the invention are primarily suitable for the production of one-component papers to be developed in a moist way. However, it can also be used for the production of two-component papers, which can be developed in a dry way.
The favorable properties of the diazo compounds in question could not have been foreseen. One already has the diazo compound .des Aminohydroquinone dimethyl ether proposed for the diazotype. However, this connection could not be practical Gain meaning. The reason for this is that those made with this connection Layers are very, poorly durable and that their sensitivity to light too wish left. In addition, the pauses produced with it have unfavorable tones on. One can therefore produce blueprints of satisfactory properties do not establish with this connection. Also by introducing the usual substituents In the molecule of the known diazo compound one can find its significant for the diazotype Properties generally do not improve significantly. It was therefore very surprising that by introducing an etherified mercapto group, one in the diazotype , represents very unusual substituents, an extraordinary improvement which can achieve properties which the production of valuable blueprint papers with the compound substituted in this way.
Beispiele i. The diazo compounds used according to the invention can be prepared as follows: A very slightly acidic solution of the conventionally obtained diazonium chloride, i.e. a 2,5-dialkoxy-1,4-nitroaniline, is run into an aqueous solution of potassium xanthate at about 70.degree . The xanthate (Leuckart reaction), which is formed from the diazo compound with the elimination of nitrogen and the formation of potassium chloride, which is usually an oil, is saponified to thiophenolate by prolonged boiling with an alcoholic solution of potassium hydroxide. The solution of the thiophenolate, filtered through charcoal, can be reacted directly with dimethyl sulfate, diethyl sulfate, chloroacetic acid, ethylene chlorohydrin or other water-soluble etherifying agents, the thio ethers which are insoluble in lye precipitating out. These 2, 5-dialkoxy-i-nitro-q.-thiophenol ethers are, as usual, by reduction. and diazotization of the bases formed converted into the desired compounds. If one wishes to carry out the above-mentioned etherification process with the aid of propyl bromide or other water-insoluble etherification agents, it is advisable to first isolate the thiophenolate by precipitation with acid and to carry out the etherification in an alcoholic solution. The manufacturing process is illustrated by the following formulas: where R1 and R stand for alkyl and R3 stands for alkyl, aralkyl or aryl .. Examples i. With a solution of .3 g of the zinc chloride double salt of the diazo compound from which 4-ethylmercapto-i-am, ino-2,5-diethoxybenzene, ig tartaric acid, ig boric acid, 5 g thiourea and 0.2 g saponin in 100 cc of water is Coated paper. After the dried material has been exposed to light under a template, it is developed with a developer containing 0.4 g of phloroglucinol, 6 g of disodium phosphate, 8 g of trisodium citrate and 1.5 g of acidic sodium tartrate in 100 cc of water. This creates breaks with deep blue-black lines.
2.
