Description

Während die azeotrope Mischung von Propargylalkohol und Wasser bei 98° einen Dampfdruck von 76o mm Hg besitzt, beträgt der Dampfdruck des Monooxäthyläthers des Propargylalkohols bei 85° nur etwa 2o mm Hg.Process for preventing the corrosion of metals by acids The subject of patent 744 789 is a method for preventing corrosion of metals by acidic liquids, according to which alcohols of the acetylene series, z. B. propargyl alcohol and its homologues, the acidic liquid adds. To the Some of these alcohols are poisonous and they often have an unpleasant odor; this applies in particular to the low-boiling alcohols such as propargyl alcohol and butynol or methylbutynol, which are highly volatile with water. It has now been found that these disadvantages do not apply if one uses mono- or polyoxyethyl ethers of alcohols the acetylene series is used. One arrives at a particularly suitable additive by oxethylation of propargyl alcohol. This product comes in handy in here mostly possible aqueous liquids clearly soluble and it stands out characterized by low volatility. While the azeotropic mixture of propargyl alcohol and water at 98 ° has a vapor pressure of 76o mm Hg, amounts to the vapor pressure of the monooxyethyl ether of propargyl alcohol at 85 ° is only about 20 mm Ed.

1,79 g Äther entsprechen i g Alkohol; das Verhältnis der Gewichtsverluste ist aber nur 1,38: i.Example Rectangular plates made of Siemens-Martin steel with the dimensions 2 X 3 X 0.2 cm were attached to glass rods and hung in roo ccm of different aqueous solutions containing 10 g of hydrogen chloride and each also one of the ones given in the following list Supplements included. Weight loss is understood to mean the decrease in weight of the platelets in mg per cm2 of surface area 326. Treatment treatment temperature duration additive weight protective effect loss Degree hours percent 20 24- io g of oxethyl ether of propargyl alcohol ......... 0.35 99.3 20 24 ig oxethyl ether of propargyl alcohol ......... 0.40 9917- 20 24 ig propargyl alcohol ........................... 0.29 99.4 20 24 no addition ................................... 47.6 0.0 Boiling heat of i io g of oxethyl ether of propargyl alcohol ......... 0.43 98.6 Boiling heat i no additive ..................................... 30.3 0.0 This shows the good protective effect of the oxethyl ether, even in very small quantities. It is not inferior to that of propargyl alcohol, but rather surpasses it if one takes into account the molecular weights of the two substances compared and, in doing so, assumes propargyl alcohol as such as the active substance - also in the case of ether. 1.79 g of ether correspond to ig alcohol; the ratio of the weight losses is only 1.38: i.
