Description
The invention relates to a graphite tube furnace mix sample carrier for atomic absorption spectroscopy.
The first device for atomic absorption spectroscopic analyses proposed by L 1 vov contained a graphite tube furnace in which, after heating to a predetermined temperature, the sample was introduced into a graphite crucible or sample carrier which could be heated independently of the tube furnace. With this device, evaporation and atomization of the sample substance and the measurement of absorption take place under reproducible, defined conditions, so that the scatter of the measured values is comparatively small. However, the device and measuring method involve greater expenditure and various simplifications have been proposed as a result, e.g. the Massmann furnace. In all modified devices, the sample carrier does not have its own resistance heating circuit, so that after introduction into the graphite tube furnace, the sample carrier and sample are essentially heated by radiation. Inevitably, in the pulsed heating phase there is a temperature difference between the sample carrier and the casing of the graphite tube furnace, which is less easy to reproduce and can therefore impair the accuracy and sensitivity of the analysis.

The skill of the operating personnel depends on the heating of the carrier by Jcule's heat. This cannot be completely ruled out and, finally, the pin-like supports significantly restrict the choice of material for the sample carrier. Sample carriers with pins can only be made from special types of graphite, such as glassy carbon, which is difficult to work and cannot be produced in the purity that other types of graphite have. Due to its lower strength, the ultrapure graphite generally used to make sample carriers can only be used to produce carriers with wider, rail-like supports, which have larger contact surfaces with the casing of the graphite tube furnace and, accordingly, a larger current flow through the carrier.
The invention is therefore based on the object of arranging a sample carrier consisting of any type of graphite in a reproducible position in the graphite tube furnace in such a way that no electrical current flows through the carrier when the furnace is heated.
The task is solved with a device of the type mentioned above in that the plate-shaped sample carrier is suspended in grooves which are incorporated into the shell of the tube furnace.
Der plattenförtnige Probenträger, der ebenfalls einen trapezförmigen Querschnitt hat oder mit stegartigen Auskragungen versehen ist, wird an der einen Stirnfläche des RohrofensThe grooves, which preferably have a trapezoidal cross-section, extend in the axial direction from one end face of the tube furnace and end at a distance from the second end face. The plate-shaped sample carrier, which also has a trapezoidal cross-section or is provided with web-like projections, is attached to one end face of the tube furnace.
Physical contact between the casing of the graphite tube furnace and the sample carrier only exists in the area of the grooves in a narrow linear
Auch weniger geschicktes Bedienungspersonal kann ohne Verwendung von Spezialwerkzeugen Probenträger Leicht auswechseln, was besonders die Analyse fester Substanzen erleichtert.shaped area, since according to a preferred design the surfaces are not parallel in which the tube furnace and sample carrier touch. Accordingly, heat flow and current conduction between the tube furnace and sample carrier are very low. The connection ultimately determines the position of the sample carrier in the tube furnace clearly and repeatably. Even less skilled operating personnel can easily replace sample carriers without using special tools, which makes the analysis of solid substances particularly easy.
The sample carrier consists of any type of graphite, such as electrographite, pyrographite or glassy carbon. It is preferred to manufacture the carrier from pure graphite, which is obtained from electrographite, is easy to process and has the required purity. The surface of the carrier can be coated in a known manner with a thin layer of pyrographite in order to adapt its wettability to the analysis substance.
The sample carrier is inserted into the cold or preheated tube furnace and heated almost entirely by thermal radiation, so that the temperature rise in the sample, the evaporation and atomization of the analysis substance are set and controlled by the electrical load of the graphite tube furnace. With a given analysis program, the scatter of the trigger time for the signals is very small and the repeatability of the measurements is extremely good. The sample carriers consist of the types of graphite or carbon that best correspond to the respective analysis conditions and, for example, have a certain porosity, hardness or purity. There is no restriction to glassy carbon, as with the well-known "pin platform".
In addition to the advantages described, tests with the device showed another improvement, which is particularly evident in the Zeeman background correction. The entire device is placed in a strong magnetic field, whereby the resulting vibrations are so strong that the sample carrier is moved out of the graphite furnace. Sample carriers held by the connection do not change their position relative to the graphite furnace and are also suitable for this analysis method.

In Fig. 1 a and 1 b, the graphite tube furnace 1 is provided with grooves 2 into which the sample carrier 3 is suspended. The grooves and sample carrier are trapezoidal in shape. The surfaces 4 and 5 are not parallel, so that contact, through which electrical current and heat can flow from the graphite tube furnace 1 into the sample carrier 2, only exists along the contact line 6. Fig. 2 shows the position of the sample carrier 3 in the graphite tube furnace 1. The sample carrier 3, which is somewhat shorter than the tube furnace, is suspended in the grooves 2 (Fig. 1), which end at a distance 8 from the rear end 9 of the tube furnace 1 to form a stop 7. The position of the sample carrier is thus fixed in the axial direction.
