Description
Process for the production of decahydronaphthol and other hydroxyl compounds from decahydronaphthalene - So far, decahydronaphthol has usually been obtained by hydrogenation obtained from naphthol. However, the starting material used here is proportionate expensive. It has also already been described that one rides tetrahydro-naphthalene with air oxidize to tetrahydronaphthalene peroxide and from it the tetrahydronaphthol resp. the Tetrahydronaphthon can win, which easily further to Dekahydronaphthol let it hydrate. The yield of decahydronaphthol obtained in this process wins over the tetrahydronaphthalene are, however. small amount.
It now became a simple, technical method of manufacture before Dekahydronaphthoi and other hydroxyl compounds from Dekahydronaphthalin found, which consists in the fact that decahydronaphthalene is used at temperatures treated from 100 to 170 ° with air or oxygen-containing gases and the obtained Oxidation product given case with prior separation of the contained therein acidic components under high pressure and at high temperatures - in the presence of Catalysts reduced with hydrogen.
One can work like this with oxidation; that the air is finely divided using a suitable distributor (sieve tube; sieve plate, - porous or = fritted material) - allowed to sweep through the decahydronaphthalene. You can also let the decahydronaphthalene trickle down over suitable fillers and pass the air or the oxygen-containing gases in countercurrent, - you can also let the decahydronaphthalene pass through a suitable reaction vessel with the air in cocurrent.
The oxidation can be carried out continuously by using the decahydronaphthalene by a single oxidation vessel or by a system of cascaded Oxidation vessels continuously pumped through and oxidized and thereby the process conducts so that the final product running off has the desired constants.
Die günstigsten Oxydationstemperaturen liegen etwa zwischen 130 und 155p.The oxidation is usually carried out under normal pressure, one can but also work under increased or reduced pressure. The application of special Oxidation catalysts is not required, it is even cheap, metals and to keep their salts away. The most favorable oxidation temperatures are roughly between 130 and 155p.
Within the above conditions, the oxidation can be carried out in any Carry out this manner, considering oxidation times of about 30 to 80 hours come. It has proven to be useful, however, only the oxidation up to a certain. Stage because if this stage is exceeded increasingly viscous condensation products are formed, which the oxidation apparatus, in particular d: e distribution organs for the oxidizing gases, can and also clog make working up, in particular the hydrogenation of the material to be oxidized, more difficult. These Level is reached when the material to be oxidized has about an SZ. from 30 to 80, a VZ. from 60 to 12o and one OHZ. from 40 to 80, and a ketone Z. from 20 to 50.
Bei Erreichung dieser Stufe enthält das Oxydationsprodukt neben unangegriffenem Dekahydronaphthalin Säuren Alkohole, Ketone, Ester und Superoxyde. When this level is reached, the oxidation product contains unaffected Decahydronaphthalene acids alcohols, ketones, esters and superoxides.
This oxidation product is now subjected to the hydrogen treatment under high pressure and at high temperatures in the presence of catalysts, that is to say generally under conditions such as are customary in the hydrogenation of fatty acids or their esters to alcohols. Corresponding pressures of about 40 to 50 atmospheres and temperatures of 230 to 35o degrees and the customary hydrogenation catalysts, ie above all compounds of copper, zinc or chromium, are used.
The reduction product obtained in this way contains in addition to unchanged Dekahydronaphthalene in. The main amount of decahydronaphthol. The hydroxyl number of the reduction product is on average about ioo to zoo, which, calculated on decahydronaphthol, would correspond to a decahydronaphthol content of 27 to 5q.0 / 0. In addition to the decahydronaphthol are also dihydric alcohols in the material to be reduced, z. B. of the type of a Dioxydekahydronaphthalins, contain, as well as other hydroxyl compounds, some of which are derived from the reduction products of the There are mono- and dicarboxylic acids, which, during oxidation, are derived from Dekahydronaphthali.n are formed by partial ring cleavage.
These acidic constituents of the oxidation mixture, of which among others Cyclohexanediacetic acid and cyclohexanepropionic acid can also be obtained separate beforehand by z. B. with water or with diluted Alkali washes and thereby removes the acidic constituents that are processed and directly to the known uses for carboxylic acids, @ for example for the production of plasticizers.
If the previous separation of the carboxylic acids is omitted one, as described above, a mixture of decahydronaphthalene with monovalent and polyvalent hydroxyl compounds, of which decahydronaphthol is the main component occupies. The unchanged decahydronaphthalene is separated from the hydroxyl compounds by distillation and returns it to the oxidation process. The obtained hydroaromatic Alcohols can be used for the usual uses for alcohols. she can therefore be used, for example, as solvents and plasticizers in the paint industry can be used and for this purpose, if necessary, beforehand with suitable Carboxylic acids, e.g. B. with those from the oxidation process of the present process obtained carboxylic acids, are esterified.
In a glass vessel with a capacity of 1, which is fitted with a gas distribution pipe (Glass frit) is provided, 50.0 parts by weight of decahydronaphthalene are added, and the decahydronaphthalene makes it 48 hours at 1d.5 ° every hour i0.1 air passed.
Das vom Katalysator abfiltrierte Produkt hat folgende Konstanten: Hydroxylzahl 15o, Säurezahl o, Verseifungszahl 2, Ketonzahl o.After this treatment, the oxidation product is added to the autoclave 27o ° and 25o atmospheric pressure in the presence of 501a copper chromite as a catalyst for 2 hours treated with hydrogen. The product filtered off from the catalyst has the following Constants: hydroxyl number 15o, acid number o, saponification number 2, ketone number o.
After the first run and unchanged containing hydroxyl compounds Dekahydron.aphthalin are distilled off, is obtained at 9 mm Hg pressure between i 0, o and 12o ° in an amount of 22 0/0, of the decahydronaphthalene used Fraction. which has the hydroxyl number 32o and predominantly made of decahydronaphth oil in the form of a mixture that consists of isomers.
Between 1q.0, to 20, o ° distilled at the same! Print a parliamentary group with the hydroxyl number 51o over, the 12 0/0, of the decahydronaphthalene used and contains predominantly dihydric alcohols.
