iikte.Process for the manufacture of polymerization products containing rubber
The invention relates to the manufacture of novel rubber-containing polymerization products
iikte.
It has already been proposed to produce such polymer products
been a mixture of styrene or one of its alkyl or balogen core-substituted
Descendants, a minor amount of a hydrocarbon with conjugated double bonds
or a haloali seedling thereof and of gum in an aqueous dispersion
Subject to polymerization conditions. , The products obtained in this way
can be kneaded in a hot rolling mill and vulcanized like rubber. she
are even after complete polymerization in solvents for rubber, @ for example
Benzene, soluble.
It has been shown, that valuable polymerization products are obtained
can be achieved by a copolymerization carried out in the presence of rubber
a mixture of styrene or one of its polymeric, s, sizable alkyl or halogen derivatives
and a diene-conjugated hydrocarbon or a halogen-substituted Al) derivative
of this if the proportion of this second mixture component is equal to or greater
than that of the styrene components or their derivatives.
Dar-
übereinstimmenden Bedingungen in Abwesenheit
Je
größer dabei das Verhältnis der die konjugierten
Doppelbindungen aufweisenden Verbindung zu dem
Styrolaliteil oder dessen Abköininlingen ist, desto
gummiähnlicher ist auch das Endprodukt. Beson-

Oberflächenspannung oder I'ufferniittel zugesetzt
werden können. So kann als Polymerisations-
katalvsator ein Amnioniuni- oder alkalisches Metall-
persulfat bzw.

ergebende Kopolymer in seiner Struktur homogener

The butadiene can also be replaced by isoprene, dimethylbutadiene or chloroprene. When using a diene which is generally not in a gaseous state, as is the case when using butadiene, only the amount necessary for the polymerization is added and the air is expelled from the kettle by nitrogen or otherwise an inert gas. Instead of natural rubber milk, a gutta-percha or balatalatex can be used, or an artificial dispersion of raw rubber or a rubber regenerate. It is also possible to use a rubber milk containing synthetic rubber, the synthetic rubber being composed of the polymer of a carbon-hydrogen or a chlorinated hydrocarbon having two conjugated double bonds. or from a copolymer of one of these compounds with a small proportion of a second compound.

The container is then kept shaking for 15 hours in a water bath at room temperature (about 15 °), during which time the polymerization takes place. One part of phenylbetanaphthylamine is added to the resulting dispersion in the form of an emulsion, whereupon the polymer is made to coagulate by adding dilute acid. The coagulate is washed out well in water and then dried at 50 °. This gives 75.9 parts of a rubber-like product, which is then rolled out into a soft sheet. With longer processing on the rolling mill, the product becomes softer and is kneaded, as is the case with natural rubber. The kneaded fabric exhibits some stickiness which can be further increased by wetting the surface with a rubber solvent such as petroleum naphtha.
