Description
Alloys for pen nibs For the production of nib nib alloys one originally used platinum metals, especially osmium and iridium. Later a new basis was found in the use of rhenium alloys. In addition to these high-quality alloys, tungsten was still used in practice Base used for spring tip alloys. But since tungsten does not have sufficient ink resistance possessed, these alloys usually had more or less large amounts of Platinum metals or rhenium are added.
It was suggested a few decades ago, tantalum to be used as a material for nibs because of its high chemical resistance. This failed for various reasons; so pure tantalum is far too soft and also difficult to weld on because of its easy oxidizability. However tantalum can be hardened by alloying; but most tantalum alloys are too brittle for the production of nibs. On this fact is it is probably due to the fact that up to now there have been no nibs with tantalum as the main component were found.
Tests have now shown that tantalum actually makes the difference tungsten has complete ink resistance. The present invention is therefore the underlying task, despite the previous failures after alloys based on tantalum, which in practice prove to be good nib tip alloys let use.
Federspitzenlegierungen der Erfindung haben beispielsweise folgende Zusammensetzung: r. 780/0 Ta, 2o0/, Ni, 2% B; 2. 67,5% Ta, 30% Ni, 2,5% B.The solution to this problem was found in a three-component alloy made of tantalum, nickel and boron. It was found that tantalum-nickel-boron alloys with 10 to 60/0, in particular 20 to 52% nickel, 0.1 to 50/0, in particular 0.5 to 30/0 boron, the remainder 35 to 9o0 / 0, in particular 45 to 8o0 / 0 tantalum are extremely suitable for the production of nibs. This is probably due to the formation of borides of intermetallic tantalum-nickel compounds. These alloys actually meet all the requirements that are placed on a high-quality material for spring tips. They show high resistance to mechanical wear without being brittle. They therefore neither lead to rapid wear and tear during use, nor do they tend to become brittle in the manufacturing process of the springs during grinding and splitting, because, in addition to being very hard, they have the necessary toughness. As they are also easy to weld and completely ink-resistant, they are a material that is equivalent to the best precious metal-based alloys to date. For example, pen tip alloys of the invention have the following composition: r. 780/0 Ta, 2o0 /, Ni, 2% B; 2. 67.5% Ta, 30% Ni, 2.5% B.
Derartige Legierungen haben beispielsweise folgende Zusammensetzung: 3. 52 0i6 Ta, 45°/o N1, 0,50!o Au, 2,5% B; 66,5% Ta, 30% N1, i % Au, 2,5°l9 B: 5- 495% Ta, 45% Ni, 3 % Au, 2,5°,1o B 6. 57,5% Ta, 30% Ni, 1o % Au, 25% B 7. 49,5% Ta, 45% Ni, 3 % Ag, 25% B: B. 66,5% Ta, 36% Ni, r 0,I0 Cu, 2,50,I, B.It is particularly surprising that these tantalum-nickel-boron alloys still be improved if one gives them copper, silver and gold individually or in groups in: amounts add up to 15% in total, with very good results with amounts from 0.5 to 3%, especially with an addition of gold and even better of Gold and copper at the same time. The salary limits for Tontal, Nickel and boron remain in the frame defined above. Let these alloys edit themselves even better and especially grind and split than the ternary ones Tantalum-nickel-boron alloys themselves; in addition, they are also particularly good weld on gold. Such alloys have the following composition, for example: 3. 52.06 Ta, 45% N1, 0.50% Au, 2.5% B; 66.5% Ta, 30% N1, i% Au, 2.5 ° l9 B: 5- 495% Ta, 45% Ni, 3% Au, 2.5 °, 1o B 6. 57.5% Ta, 30% Ni, 1o% Au, 25% B 7. 49.5% Ta, 45% Ni, 3% Ag, 25% B: B. 66.5% Ta, 36% Ni, r 0, I0 Cu, 2.50, I, B.
Platinum metals in amounts up to about 50% change the nature of the L, 2 alloys not significant. An addition of more than 5% is unnecessary; some alloys will these additives even make them worse, as their hardness decreases or they become brittle occurs.
The peculiarity of all the aforementioned alloys remains essentially also received, if still a total of up to i30 ;, other heavy metals that are above rooo ° melt, such as chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, titanium, zirconium or vanadium, individually or have been added to several. Both with the addition of the platinum metals as with the addition of the other heavy metals, the content limits for tonal, nickel and boron remain in the frame marked out above.
With all of the aforementioned spring tip alloys, it is possible to use a Part of the Tontal, in quantities up to about 250; 0, through which it chemically to replace very closely related niobium. Please refer to the following example: 9. 57.50, / o Ta, 10000 Nb, 3o0; '0 Ni, 2.50.1o B. Nickel can be found in the new nib tip alloys do not replace in full with cobalt or iron. On the other hand it is possible without significantly impairing the properties of the tantalum-nickel-boron alloys, replace part of the nickel with iron or cobalt zti. You can do the nickel up to about 200; 'o replace with iron or cobalt or both metals together, however, the nickel content should not fall below 10%.
Nickel-free tantalum-cobalt-boron alloys are for one manufacture unsuitable for feather tips. Even when replacing nickel with iron, most of them are nickel-free alloys bad. Only in the narrow interval from 25 to 350; 0 Essen, which with a stock exchange salary of o, i to 50; 'o a tantalum content of 6o to 75% usable alloys can still be achieved.
'Hierfür wird folgendes Beispiel gegeben io. 67,5°,1o Ta, 3001o Fe, 2,5% B.'The following example is given for this io. 67.5 °, 1o Ta, 3001o Fe, 2.5% B.
The other additives described above can optionally be used for this purpose occur, in which case the narrow interval limits shift accordingly.
