Der Rechen beisteht aus dem Haupt α von Holz und den Zähnen e aus Stahlblech von beliebiger Stärke und Länge. Das Haupt ist mit Einschnitten von der Breite der einzusetzenden Stahlzähne und mit einem Beschlag b aus Bandeisen versehen, welcher durch zwei oder mehrere Schrauben festgehalten wird. Durch den Beschlag gewinnt der Rechen zugleich an Dauerhaftigkeit. Die Zähne sind am oberen Ende seitlich gebogen, wodurch sie sich im Holze festklammern. Eingesetzt werden die Zähne in das Haupt, indem man sie wie einen Nagel, das spitze Ende voraus, mit einem Hammer in die Einschnitte vollständig eintreibt. Herausgenommen werden sie, indem man auf das spitze Ende schlägt.
