Description

Kriställchen und von der Durchführung des Richtvorganges ab.Method for producing polarizing films For producing Polarizing films are known to be microscopic or submicroscopic suspensions Particles of a dichroic compound in solutions of film formers to form a film to be poured, whereby during or after the pouring process the crystals are placed on mechanical, be directed electrically or magnetically. After subsequent drying the resulting polarization film can be peeled off the base. the The polarization effect of the restrained films depends on the same dichroic substances provided before. the size and shape of the. Crystals and from the implementation of the straightening process.

It has now been shown that these two factors for the polarization effect the foils are not the only decisive factor, but also the implementation the drying process is of considerable importance for this. It turned out that the polarizing effect is better if the film according to the invention as soon as possible, i.e. as soon as @ it allows its degree of solidification, deducted from the base is then dried to the end. This could not be seen beforehand as one should expect that during the first period of the drying process, if the film is still liquid or viscous, convection currents cause loss of appearance .appear. Contrary to these expectations, however, it has been shown that precisely the last part of the drying process to damage the optical properties of the polarizing film, if not by the method of the present invention the polarization film is removed from the base in good time. In which When this state is reached, it cannot be stated in a generally valid manner because this depends on many factors, such as the composition of the casting solution, temperature, etc. The polarization film is now either hanging freely or guided over rollers, completely dried. As far away as possible the solvent should therefore be aimed for, because experience has shown that this increases the durability of the film from an optical point of view under stress, e.g. B. with cement in the warmth, 'increased will.

The polarization effect of the method of the present Invention produced polarizing film is-significantly better than if after known procedure is dried in one operation.
