Commutator ventilation for ventilated direct current machines At

on the one hand good cooling of the commutator is guaranteed, on the other hand

machine end turned away. However, one is for constructive reasons
forced to arrive the cooling air at this machine end and withdraw it at the commutator

In order to ensure adequate commutator cooling in this case too

which is in direct contact with the outside air through a housing opening 12.
This ring channel i i is mainly of a jacket sector 13, vain between

The machine is ventilated in the following way: The fresh air
enters the machine through known openings 31 of the armature-side end shield
and enters through the opening 32 of the bearing plate 7 on the commutator side
the suction of the fan 33 - again out of the machine. Part of the through
the end shield openings 31 entering cooling air flows as usual through armature
and commutator channels directly to the fan 33, while the other part, the
takes its way over the anchor and between the poles, through the tight
on the winding overhangs reaching disk 16 is forced through the between
the machine housing 2 and the jacket sector 13 located channels 21 to flow.
30 erreicht.
While this air flow, which is already strongly warmed up when passing through the armature and between the poles, flows off through the end shield opening 32 as a result of its forced guidance without coming into contact with the commutator surface, another fresh air flow flows out through the housing opening 12 into the annular channel ii the annular gap 14 provided between commutator and disk 15 under the suction effect of the fan and brushes directly over the commutator surface. This air flow not only achieves intensive cooling of the commutator surface, which is known per se, but also good cooling of the brushes, brush bolts, furthermore the commutator connections and the armature winding heads connected to them and finally also the connections 30 accommodated in the annular channel ii. In the drawing, the commutator cooling air flow is shown with a dashed line, while the rest of the cooling air flow is indicated by solid lines.
The invention also offers the great advantage that the commutator cooling
is easy and cheap to manufacture and, above all, without changing the machine,
especially without extending the same, can be conveniently accommodated in it.
