Die Hufeisen werden gewöhnlich bei Frostwetter mittelst eines angeschmiedeten Griffes an der Zehe derselben geschärft. Nun wird aber bei schnell vorübergehendem Glatteise der Griff, so lange derselbe sich nicht abgeschliffen hat,, für das Gehen der Pferde hinderlich. Um diesem vorzubeugen, ist an dem Hufeisen eine Neuerung angebracht, welche im Nachstehenden veranschaulicht werden soll.The horseshoes are usually attached by means of a forged handle in frosty weather the toe of the same sharpened. eine Zunge c mit einer Durchlochung d. Zur Schärfung dieses Eisens dient ein Griff α und der Ring b. Soll eine Schärfung des Hufeisens vorgenommen werden, so wird der Griff a gegen die Zunge c gelegt, wobei der Dorn r in das Loch d greift. Alsdann wird der Ring b ' über beide, Zunge und Griff, getrieben, so dafs dieselben fest verbunden werden. Der Griff besteht aus einer Platte a mit einem gewölbten Rücken s und den im rechten Winkel zur Platte stehenden Dorn r. Die Wölbung des Rückens verstärkt noch den Verband des Ringes b mit der Zunge c, wodurch der Griff festgeklemmt wird (Fig. 5).a tongue c with a perforation d.
