Description
Gas or vapor-filled discharge vessel Es. are gas or vapor filled electrical discharge vessels for amplifying, rectifying and generating vibrations known in which one between a cathode - and one or more anodes transient glow or glow arc discharge as an electron source for one after a second anode (amplifier anode) passing over and controllable by control elements Electron stream is used. In order to improve the effectiveness of such discharge vessels, it has already been proposed to design and arrange the electrodes in such a way that the direction of the normal to the electron-emitting surface of the cathode or in the case of hollow cathodes the direction of the normal to the emitting envelope surface, eats away from the amplifier system in such a way that the large, not (e (emitting massive cathode base all harmful radiations of the negative Glow light shields from the amplifier system and at the same time electrostatically the space in front of the amplifier electrodes acts in such a way that the in-way of the electron flow, the "control effect of the control grid is unfavorable influencing positive ions removed from this space and placed on the cathode base be neutralized. In 'derärtlg @ en amplifier arrangements one observes that the influence of the emission cathodes on the amplifier system is so strong that the The field between the anode of the auxiliary discharge and the amplifier system is significantly distorted so that only part of the booster system is practical for booster action comes into consideration.
Gemäß der Erfindung wird nun bei einem gas- oder dampfgefüllten Entladungsgefäß zur -Verstärkung, Gleichrichtung oder Erzeugung von Schwingungen mit einer Hilfsgasentladung als Elektronenquelle für die Verstärkerelektroden, bei denn die Kathode so ausgebildet und angeordnet ist, daß ihre Emissionsrichtung von den Verstärkerelektroden abgewandt ist, während der großflächige, nicht emittierende massive Kathodengrund auf diesem Raum zwecks Beseitigung positiver Ionen elektrostatisch einwirkt, die Anode der Hilfs;gasentladung zwischen dem Kathodengrund und den Verstärkerelektroden derart angeordnet und derart durchbrochen, daß der Durchgriff des Kathodenpotentials in den den Verstärkerelektroden vorgelagerten Raum durch die Hilfsanode auf das jeweils erwünschte Maß reduziert ist. Wenn ,auch so der unmittelbare elektrostatische Einfluß der Kathode auf das Verst.ärkersystem auf ein durch den Durchgriff des Kathodensystems bedingtes Maß verringert ist, so bleibt doch die vorteilhafte Wirkung der besonderen Anordnung und Ausbildung der Kathode, welche in der Beseitigung der Ionen aus dem den Verstärkerelektroden vorgelagerten Raum besteht, ;gewahrt.According to the invention, in the case of a gas or vapor-filled discharge vessel for amplification, rectification or generation of vibrations with an auxiliary gas discharge as an electron source for the amplifier electrodes, because the cathode is designed in this way and it is arranged that its direction of emission faces away from the amplifier electrodes is, while the large, non-emitting, massive cathode base is on this The anode acts electrostatically in order to eliminate positive ions Auxiliary gas discharge between the cathode base and the amplifier electrodes in this way arranged and broken through in such a way that the penetration of the cathode potential in the space in front of the amplifier electrodes through the auxiliary anode to the respective desired level is reduced. If so, so is the direct electrostatic influence the cathode to the amplifier system to one through the penetration of the cathode system conditional measure is reduced, the beneficial effect of the special remains Arrangement and design of the cathode, which in the removal of the ions from the there is space in front of the amplifier electrodes;
Fig. I shows schematically a tube according to the invention.
In practice, one will not limit oneself to an arrangement as to how it is shown in Fig. i, but choose concentric arrangements as : They are shown in FIG. 2. The amplifier anode a2 is surrounded by the control grid s- and this in turn from the discharge anodeaj. The cathode k eats on hers The outside is provided with a highly emissive layer b.
A subdivided cathode should be placed under the hollow cathode Cathode are understood in which the individual parts in such a way and in such a way Spaced opposite that of a cathode part through impinging positive ions released electrons in the cathode, en: -fall space of the opposite Cathode part shot in and slowed down in this case space, wherein an accumulation of electrons and thus a reduction in the cavities of the cathode the cathode fall takes place. The emission takes place in the case of a dull hollow cathode to the side of the opening, so that by itself without additional shielding means the condition is met that there is no emission in the direction of the amplifier system he follows. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement corresponding to FIG. I, in which the Cathode is not a hollow cathode. The internal parts of this cathode can be made with a high emissivity. Layer b be provided. A bes: on-: 4, e @ re Auxiliary anode z may be provided. E. @ Is also possible, an additional thermal Generation of elec- tricity, for example by auxiliary "heating or by an auxiliary incandescent cathode, apply. The amplifier system consisting of the amplifier anode a., And the control grid s' is spatially separated from the hollow cathode by the discharge anode a1. Also for this arrangement applies with regard to the: electrostatic influence of the cathode k the same considerations as in FIG. i apply to the amplifier system a2 to s.
In, the- Fig. Q. it is a practical arrangement; Principle of Fig.3 shown. The amplifier anode a2 is surrounded by the amplifier grid. Slide on is arranged concentrically the discharge anode al and on it again the individual ones Hollow cathode existing cathode k, in which the interiors with a highly emissive Layer b can be provided, for example a mixture of barium and barium oxide or other oxides.
