Abstract
Description
These The invention relates to mobile wireless communication, and more particularly a method for planning which of different wireless communication options for wireless To use communication in a mobile environment, if one or several wireless communication options are available for use, based on the location of the mobile user, the route, the the mobile user travels through, and the availability of the various wireless communication options along the route.
Different telematics services have different ones Conditions relating to communication. For example, one is Message of an automatic airbag deployment a security service, an emergency message (including the location of the car) emits when an airbag is triggered, making an emergency and medical Service at the right place and at the earliest possible time would. The service of the message of an automatic airbag deployment is Rarely used, the message is small, its importance is very significant though. Consequently, the communication technology needs high availability and short latency, the bandwidth of the channel, the cost of use however, scalability is less of a concern. on the other hand would through a multimedia-based service, such as downloading from digital maps or downloading digital music, in communication technology attaches great importance to low usage costs, high bandwidth and scalability.
It is easy, high bandwidth from the network operators, low cost and complete Cover for wireless communication solutions to promote. Such a solution would all Addressing communication problems and a perfect platform for all telematics services Offer. The simple explanation is that quality of service (such as bandwidth, latency, etc.), cost and availability (like coverage) in any wireless system design three are competing factors. It is simply impossible, all to optimize three factors simultaneously.
The Current wireless communications offerings are being used by the cellular Mastered ways of thinking. In such a view, the voice telephony service is the killer application. All cellular technologies have related The same goals for voice service: It is important to support "Anytime, Anywhere" calls that Channel bandwidth must not fluctuate, etc. To achieve these goals All cellular architectures share the same fundamental similarities common: The frequency band must be secured, it must be far reaching networks of radio masts and the radio masts have to in networks drawn up in detail, in order to stable quality of service for the To ensure customers.
The Telematics, however, presents several other conditions for communications. The scalability and capacity are measured, for example, in terms of millions of cars, at the same place (highways) and at the same time (rush hour) dam. People have very different tolerance limits for costs of wireless data compared to the cost of wireless voice transmission. These are for some services, such as downloading music, communication availability, a bit relaxed, for others are not.
Allgemeiner Stand der TechnikGeneral state of the technology
E-Mail, Kalenderdienste), Informationsdienste (z.B. Aktieninformationen, personalisierte Nachrichten, Informationen zu Sehenswürdigkeiten), Unterhaltungsdienste (z.B. interaktive Spiele, Musik-Downloads) usw.increasing Numbers of vehicles are already using a form of "telematics" service platform equipped. Telematics services are those services provided by a three-way connection of vehicles, computer technology and communication technologies, and are sometimes used to denote the wireless linking of Vehicles with data networks, in particular the Internet, used. These telematics service platforms can be various intelligent Execute transport system services, such as reporting the condition and location of a vehicle Service Center, and can provide certain applications, such as emergency and security services. In the next A few years on, more telematics products will be made available and eventually become most, if not all, vehicles are a form of telematics platform which will offer various services, such as emergency services (e.g. Emergency communication in case of an event such as airbag deployment), navigation services, Concierge and transaction services (e.g., restaurant information, hotel reservation), communication services and services for personal Information (e.g., e-mail, calendaring services), information services (e.g. Stock information, personalized news, information to sights), Entertainment services (e.g., interactive games, music downloads) etc.
These telematics service platforms require the use of a wireless communication type. Since wireless communication is generally expensive compared to non-wireless communication (eg, cellular phone calls compared to landline calls), the ability of these telematics products to deploy wireless communication options in the most cost-effective manner becomes an important factor represent the success of vehicle telematics. With wireless communication options, the various available wireless communication networks, discussed below, are the various service levels available to each wireless communication network type (ie, transmission power level), as well as any other option that may be available for wireless communication today or in the future will be available.
Time Division Multiple Access, Zeitmultiplexzugriff).In the very near Future will be a variety of wireless communication options are available for use by wireless communication devices in vehicles, like satellite, mobile phone and HF data connections (HF = high frequency) with a short range. These systems are different from each other in terms of cost, bandwidth and coverage. In urban areas and along the main country roads For example, in the US, new ones will emerge in the next few years Technologies like GPRS (General Packet Radio Service, more general packet-oriented radio service) and "always achievable connections "and Packet-oriented data communications with higher bandwidths than today Offer. Furthermore is likely a better CDMA technology (CDMA = Code division multiple access, code division multiple access) as W-CDMA established be. In addition, the wireless MAN network (MAN = Metropolitan Area Network, Urban Area Network) Ricochet 2 will soon be in 48 major urban areas in the United States, which has a very large percentage of the population cover, be available. These new wireless networks typically provide higher bandwidth as existing wireless networks, as the cellular network of first generation (AMPS = advanced mobile phone system, evolved Mobile radio system) and second-generation cellular networks (GSM = Global System for Mobile Communications, global system for mobile Communication; CDMA = Code Division Multiple Access, code division multiple access; and TDMA = time division multiple access, time division multiple access).
One General procedure for assessing the existing and emerging ones wireless communication networks and data communication services is to look at their cost and performance levels. The first-generation cellular AMPS systems are known in the art Usually a maximum data transfer rate from 9600 bps to and the digital wireless communication systems the second generation have a maximum bandwidth of 14.4 kbps. The new third generation cellular systems will be maximum Bandwidths of about 128 kbps or even 384 kbps. There the fees for cellular Communications are high, especially when used with normal interstate communications Landline calls can be compared, the cost of submitting of data using these systems is quite high. The Cost around a megabyte of data using digital wireless For example, there are communications systems of the second generation at $ 15.00 or even more. If a mobile user has a large amount to be able to relate to content the cost for it to be quite high with cellular wireless communication mobile data communication, which involves large amounts of data, for many makes potential users prohibitively expensive.
In the beginning, as the cellular systems gained popularity for the first time, the Weitbe became employs AMPS. Recently, cellular systems have added second-generation digital networks, satellite-based regional networks and urban area networks to the wide area networks used. In particular, as these additional networks were added to the networks available for use in mobile communication, cellular mobile communication devices such as new generation mobile phones have been provided with the ability to switch between different networks. For example, a mobile phone can use the first generation AMPS network or second generation digital networks (such as GPRS, GSM and CDMA) and even the satellite based networks.
The Switching the mobile communication device between wireless networks is known as vertical switching (handoff). A simple form the vertical switching would a mobile phone with potential for Several networks based on factors such as cost, availability and Selects power, which network to use and switch to a second network, if the cover is lost from the first network. In the vertical Switching is more than just the ability to to use more than one wireless network. In this context the mobile must keep the same number even if it does switched between networks. A user with a mobile phone, has the analog and digital potential, for example, could the digital Choose network, if available because it is a better quality than the analog network, but choose the analog network if no digital coverage available is. (In today's environment, the analog network has more coverage than the digital cover.)
Further advanced mobile communication devices become the vertical switching automatically perform. For example, if a mobile phone has a three-mode potential Use of the analogue network, the digital network and the satellite network could, could the phone based on the order of preference and availability choose the network to use. The user would have a sequence of preference entered into the phone that pretends this, the analog network to use, if available stands, then the digital network and then the satellite network. Accepted, that the phone first connects to the analog network had, would switch the phone to the digital network when the user moves out of the analog coverage area, and then to the satellite network when the user is out of both the analog and the digital coverage area. Usually The phone decides to switch based on whether it is in the coverage area of a given network, which is usually about the Strength the signal is determined by the antennas of the network. One of the Problems that this technique exhibits is that when A decision was made that the network used changed due to the length of time necessary to carry out the Change required will, a loss of service can occur. Furthermore can, if switching from a more expensive network to a cheaper one Network, as from the satellite network to either the digital one or the analog network that may be switching from the satellite network can not be made when the user first enters the Cover area for the analog or the digital network enters what results in that the user longer as necessary for paid the more expensive satellite network.
The Vertical switching is one in the field of mobile computing well-understood technology. In general, it's about how based on the mobile IP technology (IP = Internet Protocol) Connection status and routing table updates automated can be. Due to the unpredictable nature of the limitations of a wireless Network is often a sudden Turn off the service when the limit is reached. Consequently The general direction of research is focused on the vertical switch generally to plans for fast recovery, such as a preventive group call to neighboring base stations.
- • It is costly. For example, using the plan for optimal service of a CDMA-based service provider would translate into $ 1.50 per megabyte of data transferred.
- • It does not provide enough capacity. It is well known that mobile phone calls are often blocked during rush hour because all channels are busy. The shortage of radio frequency bands and the mish-ming of standards in the US, together with the ever-increasing demand, mean that it is unlikely that this problem will be resolved soon.
- • It does not provide enough bandwidth. It takes 30 minutes to download a 3-minute MP3 song of 3 megabytes via current GSM or CDMA technology. Even if the advanced GPRS system (GPRS = General Packet Radio Service) over the next few years, it would still take 15 minutes to get the song - not to mention the price.
In the publication "Route Dependent Communication Planning For Vehicular Telematics Service ", ITS 2000 Conference, May 2000, Bosten / USA, Daniel Jiang, Daniel Grill and Jan Pingel, will be the Use of high-bandwidth wireless LAN technology geographical coverage, referred to as "information feed for telematics purposes". The publication teaches not like downloading information using it this technology could be arranged. A disadvantage of using of only the information feed without scheduling the download of information is that the required information possibly not on the information feeder that is next to a vehicle Street comes within reach, available are, since it is not possible is, any information that may be requested for download, on every information feed store.

It An object of the present invention is a convenient way to provide the information feed device, i. the wireless LAN with high Bandwidth and lower geographic coverage, to determine that for a Downloading information to a vehicle should be used.
Kurzdarstellung der ErfindungSummary the invention
- (a) Speichern einer Routeninformation in dem mobilen Datenkommunikationsgerät, die die Route anzeigt, die das mobile Kommunikationsgerät durchlaufen wird, wobei die Routeninformation vorhersagt, wann das Auto sich wo auf welcher Straße befinden wird;
- (b) Speichern von Informationen in dem mobilen Kommunikationsgerät, die Abdeckungsbereiche für mehrere Informationsspeisestationen anzeigen, die entlang der Route angeordnet sind, die das mobile Kommunikationsgerät durchlaufen wird;
- (a) storing route information in the mobile data communication device that indicates the route that the mobile communication device is going through, the route information predicting when the car will be where on which road;
- (b) storing information in the mobile communication device indicating coverage areas for a plurality of information feed stations located along the route that the mobile communication device will traverse;
- (d) determining the information supply station to be used for sending data to the mobile data communication device based on the location of the mobile data communication device on the route it travels through.
DriveBy InfoFueling (or just InfoFueling) builds an infrastructure of access points for wireless local nets on the roadside on to the transferring to allow for high volumes of data within several seconds which needs a car to do so by covering an access point drive. In short, DriveBy InfoFueling is a concept of cost-effective High bandwidth communication technologies for use through vehicles. DriveBy InfoFueling complements traditional wireless technologies for a larger share support the communication conditions of telematics services; and even more service options to open up.
- • High bandwidth wireless local area network (LAN) technology. Wireless LAN technology such as IEEE 802.11 is a widely accepted technology for the office and home environment. In the US, a committee of private companies and government agencies has recently selected IEEE 802.11a R / A (Roadside Applications) as the base technology for licensed telematics applications. Several industry-accredited tests have confirmed that IEEE 802.11 can be used to reliably transmit several megabytes of data during vehicle speed (60 mph or more) vehicle override.
- • Predict the availability of wireless service. It's a technology to predict when a car will have coverage for a particular wireless service, including DriveBy InfoFueling access points. With GPS (Global Positioning System), navigation software, digital maps and traffic information, you can predict when the car will be on which road. This and the additional knowledge of where the DriveBy InfoFueling stations are located make it possible to predict the availability of wireless service.
- • Route-dependent communication management. It is a technology based on predicting the availability of wireless service, with a communication supporting architecture to enable route-dependent communication management. That is, applications can be controlled to always use the best wireless technology for any given route segment and any given application condition. Such communication management can be configured for various purposes, such as reducing costs, required bandwidth, etc.
- • UAE (vehicular alter ego, alter ego of a vehicle). UAE is a server technology that arranges retrieval of content in the backend and prefetching on a DriveBy InfoFueling access point on behalf of the car. For example, if an application in the vehicle needed a map and information about an interesting destination for a particular location, it could send a request to the UAE for the UAE to retrieve the data and send it to the next DriveBy InfoFueling access point or DriveBy InfoFueling access points along the predicted route of the car can vorcachen. The UAE is also a natural place to implement financial transaction technology that needs to be supported in the context of mobile e-commerce. The UAE concept also opens the way for more independent network operators to enter the telematics service market. The condition for using the network may differ for these operators, depending on their business optimization criteria or the technical equipment of the network they operate. The DriveBy InfoFueling technology would preserve the rights of both. Firstly the control and approval by the driver of the vehicle to use an available service and secondly for each network operator to operate and use its network.

The Information about the wireless communication options available in the Database can be saved Information includes the cost and performance of the wireless Concern communication options.
- • Access to up-to-date map data and interesting destination information. Have you ever driven in a city that you are unfamiliar with? A navigation system can be of great help in giving you an accurate route description and guiding you to your destination. Would not it be great if these directions were updated with up-to-date traffic data and up-to-date information on interesting destinations? Data from digital maps for navigation systems is currently offered on CDs or DVDs and can be up to 12 months old and therefore can not contain up-to-date information. Imagine driving to San Francisco on Highway 101 and passing a sign that says "Welcome to San Francisco." This sign could have a DriveBy InfoFueling station with up-to-date map information and interesting destinations , possibly enriched with multimedia information, transmitted to your vehicle would be. Detailed directions may now be refined based on the latest map data, current traffic conditions, and, for example, a parking garage proposal that is located near your destination and automatically selected based on current availability. DriveBy InfoFueling would make this not only technically possible, but also economically feasible.
- • Productivity Services Imagine driving from your office to an external meeting and you need directions. With the DriveBy InfoFueling technology, your calendar data, emails and contact database can be automatically synchronized with your telematics platform in your vehicle. Based on the current time and date and your calendar entry, your navigation system can automatically pick the destination address for your meeting from your contact database and calculate the optimal route. As you drive, you can read the agenda, list of participants, and e-mail invitation with text-to-speech technology to better prepare you for your meeting. State-of-the-art traffic conditions can be received along the route by means of the DriveBy InfoFueling stations, and the navigation system can guide you around potential traffic based on this information so that you are well prepared and delivered to your meeting on time.
- • Rich Media Download Like many other people, you probably hear in your car radio to enjoy a variety of music and news content while driving. Well, sometimes there is a song that you really like and that you might buy, but you did not hear the artist or the song title on the radio. Even if you've heard them, when you get home, you probably forgot all about it and the next time you're in a music store, you certainly will not remember it. Would not it be good if you buy a copy of a song directly while listening to this in your car and have the song downloaded into your car? Now you can, with DriveBy Infofueling technology. For example, by pressing a "Buy It Now" button on your car stereo, you could send a purchase request for the song (based on station ID and current time) to an online music website, and the back end of DriveBy InfoFueling would make a secure payment on your behalf The purchased song can then be forwarded to the nearest DriveBy InfoFueling station along your route and finally transferred to your car as you pass it, and you can then listen to the song over and over again, just as you would on a normal CD.
- • Infrastructure Support for Post-PC Devices Another scenario in which DriveBy InfoFueling technology can be useful is to provide infrastructure support for so-called post-PC devices. Post-PC devices are personal digital assistants (PDAs), digital cameras (for still images or video) or other portable devices. For example, a standard digital camera can have 32 MB of storage space for storing pictures. When this storage space is used up, the images usually need to be transferred to a PC or laptop to free up memory and be able to take more pictures. On a journey, however, you are unlikely to carry your PC or laptop with you to upload the pictures. DriveBy InfoFueling could provide this infrastructure that would allow you to transfer the images directly to an online photo webpage. Not only would this allow you to use your digital camera to capture more images, it would also allow others to instantly admire the images you've just posted online.
- It is cost-effective: $ 0.10 per megabyte would be a conservative estimate because there is no requirement for the radio frequency band license and the infrastructure can be carried by emerging digital networks that are already spreading along the roadside (ie gas stations, café chains , Fast food restaurants). This cost level would be at least an order of magnitude below any other communication service.
- • It is scalable: as demand increases, simply adding a few DriveBy InfoFueling stations between existing roadside vehicles would maintain system capacity. In other words, serving millions of cars during rush hour is absolutely feasible.
- • It is powerful: Using IEEE 802.11a, each pass on an InfoFueling station at 60 mph would allow for the transfer of 10 megabytes or more of data. In other words, three songs could easily be transmitted in a matter of seconds during a single pass.

Preferably the moving average method is used to update make.
