Abstract

In a starting circuit (starter circuit, ignition circuit) for a high-pressure metal-vapor discharge lamp 5, the series circuit consisting of a surge capacitor 6 and an auxilliary starter capacitor 7 is bridged by a spark gap 15 which is connected to the mains 1, 2 on one side by means of the inductor 3 and on the other side by means of a fuse 16. In this way, it is ensured that in the case of breakage of the supply lines 19 to the burner 17 in the evacuated bulb 18 of the lamp 5, overvoltages which arise at the capacitors 6, 7 lead to a breakdown of the spark gap 15 and thus to a melting of the fuse 16. <IMAGE>
