5 Mol H.;0 und o,i Mol Na20 enthält.Production of a basic, hydrate aluminum sulphate In the colored paint industry an aluminum compound is used which is commonly referred to as alumina or light alumina, but which is actually a basic aluminum sulphate. Their characteristic property is a refraction quotient which is similar to that of linseed oil, so that grinding with linseed oil appears transparent. Furthermore, in order to serve its purposes, the product must be light and well wetted by linseed oil. The connection is made by precipitating an aluminum sulfate solution with soda. A product falls which contains about 0.3 mole of SO3, 5 moles of H., 0 and 0.1 mole of Na2O per 1 mole of A1203.
liegt. The invention aims to produce the same product of the same
chemical composition and same physical properties on cheaper
Paths, namely by adding A12 (S04) 3 to A1203, according to the equation: n Al,
03 aqu -f- Ah (S O4) 3 - (n -f- i) Al. = 0., # 3 S 03 aqu, where n is between 5 and 15
lies.
Such addition products have already been shown, namely
by constant boiling of a concentrated aluminum sulfate solution with aluminum hydroxide.
These products have been used, for example, for water purification, but
not in the manufacture of colored paints, as they are heavy and poorly wetted by linseed oil
and are opaque in the rubbing. They are less basic than that
above-described precipitation product with soda.
According to the invention, a dilute solution of aluminum sulfate
stirred with the calculated amount of a reactive aluminum hydroxide, preferably
in the cold. The commercial crystalline aluminum hydroxide that is close to the formula
Al (HO) 3 is unsuitable for the reaction, it is not reactive enough.
For example, the amorphous or at least not clearly crystalline are suitable
Products obtained by using aluminate solution at low temperature, preferably
below 3o ', decomposed with carbonic acid. These products contain more water than that
Formula Al (O H) 3 corresponds, and considerable amounts of indelible alkali. It
it was found that preparations with about 8 parts Na20 on 100 A1203 give the best results
result. Aluminum hydroxide, which contains less Na20, gives an unsatisfactory one
End product, and a higher content does not at least improve the result.
When reacted with aluminum sulfate, some of the alkali goes as sodium sulfate
in solution, some of it remains insoluble in the basic complex. To that extent
the above equation does not fully formulate the process.
Anreibung damit bildet. Die Zusammensetzung ist 42 bis 5o 0/,) A1203, 9 bis r4 °/a
S 03, 37 bis 42 °/o HZ O, i bis 2 °/o Na. O.The invention is carried out, for example, as follows: 100 kg of aluminum sulfate
of 18 ° / o A1203 are in q. cbm of purified water. 2 cbm sodium aluminate solution,
the ioo kg
A1203 and z4.o kg contain NaOH are carbonated
decomposes, preferably such that a jet of the solution passes through a rotating disk
is atomized in a carbonated atmosphere. The heat of reaction is to be dissipated,
so that the temperature does not rise above 30 '. The precipitation will be more appropriate
Way separated from the mother liquor and with stirring into the aluminum sulfate solution
brought in. The dissolved aluminum sulfate is immediately deposited; after a very short time
After a while, the solution no longer contains aluminum, but only a small amount
Sodium sulfate. The precipitate is separated from the solution, advantageously by
Decantation, washed and drained on a filter. The filter cake contains
about go °; o water; when about two thirds of this has escaped, it remains
a slightly moist mass. When further drying at a temperature of about
roo °, half of the water escapes again, and there remains an extreme
porous, easily friable product that eagerly soaks up linseed oil and a transparent one
Forms grinding with it. The composition is 42 to 50 0 /,) A1203.9 to r4 ° / a
