Description

Process for the production of water-insoluble or difficult to swell, transparent structures, such as films, foils, threads, coatings or the like, made of cellulose ethers by means of protein precipitating agents As is well known, the methyl or ethy1 ethers are the Cellulose soluble or swellable in water. To make them technically usable, water-insoluble Produce structures, coatings and the like which do not have the aforementioned properties own, one can in a manner known per se either: the solutions of the cellulose ethers with protein precipitating agents, e.g. B. tanning agents, their substitutes and the like Bodies, relocate or treat the finished structure in appropriate baths and thereby make .waeserunisoluble.

It turns out to be disturbing that the protein precipitating agent is the gelulose ether : flocculates at certain concentrations and thus makes the structures opaque.

It has now been found that by an additive, 7 of ammonia or its volatile organic derivatives to weakly acidic protein-precipitating agents Grievances disappear. After evaporation of the solvent. And the volatile Base become water-insoluble, but nevertheless transparent, flexible and shiny Structure o. The like. Received.

Another advantage of the method is that when using the combined cellulose and the solutions of protein precipitating agents to combine of paper, fiber, etc. now gets adhesive surfaces after drying, which are insoluble in water and at the same time fully elastic and clear, while with the old Processes without the addition of volatile bases result in adhesive surfaces that are cloudy, crumbly and are inferior in bond strength.

Another very significant advantage of the present process consists in completely avoiding the use of organic solvents, as well as in the sliding out of the insolubilizing process into the drying process the plastic masses, such as B. for films, threads, lacquers and the like. Example i ioo g of an io per cent I \ fetliylcellulose solution are mixed with a solution which is io g Tannin, 5 g ammonia and 85 g water contains, added and the mixture on one Poured out glass plate. After the solvent has evaporated, a clear, completely transparent, insoluble film back. Example io g lletliylcellulo.se and i g sulCierter Dil) heny-lnietli \, lenätlier, manufactured according to Iatent ¢ 45 569, are dissolved in 100 g of 21) rozentigemi ammonia water, filtered and poured onto glass poured out. '' After: drying becomes a film that is difficult to swell in water obtain.' Example 3 100 g of a 10 percent strength aqueous ethyl cellulose solution with a solution of 10 g tannin and about 5 g ethylamine in 85 g water. After the mixture has been squirted out of a fine opening, a thread emerges that follows has become completely insoluble in water after drying in a warned air stream.
