According to a known method (US-PS 40 12 321) Acetic acid and its salts, including trichloroacetates, in aqueous solution thereby to carbon dioxide and water oxi be dated that the mixed with hydrogen peroxide aqueous solution passed through a flow photoreactor is in which this aqueous solution UV radiation one Wavelength less than or equal to 260 nm is exposed.

From the publication by L. Berglind et al. with the Title "The elimination of organic substances from the Water through UV treatment and hydrogen peroxide " (Conference proceedings Oxidation process in drinking water preparation, editors W. Kuehn and B. Sontheimer, Karlsruhe 1978, pages 541-557) it is known by organic compounds including halogen compound contaminated water with hydrogen peroxide move and the pretreated water in the circuit through a flow photoreactor. In doing so considerable proportions, partly also the total amount of ver cleansing dismantled.
Unter diesen Bedingungen konnte der eingesetzte Formaldehyd (1,3 g/l) bis zu 81% abgebaut werden.DE-PS 41 38 421 is a process for the degradation of Pollutants such as formaldehyde alone or in mixtures with Methanol, formic acid and calcium formate in water knows the pollutant solution with hydrogen peroxide added and UV radiation in a flow photoreactor is exposed. Flow photoreactors are used Diameters up to 100 cm and up to 5 mercury high pressure radiator with a connected load of 1 or 2 kW used, with several flow photoreactors can be connected in series. The reaction conditions are chosen so that incident radiation of 265 nm absorbed in less than half the reactor volume beers, so that more than half of the reactor volume remains unirradiated. Under these conditions the used formaldehyde (1.3 g / l) degraded up to 81% will.
In a known method and a known pre direction of this type (DE-OS 26 18 338) are several in essentially identical contact zones are provided, in the flow direction of the water to be cleaned are connected in series and through which to be cleaned Water and an ozone-containing gas are conveyed in countercurrent will. Each of the contact zones is with UV radiation source, for example at a wavelength emitted by 254 nm. The combined action of UV radiation and ozone are used in it to refractory, d. H. heat-resistant organic compounds such as vinegar acidity in the treated water in concentrations up to 0.1 per mille are included, to carbon dioxide and To oxidize water.
From the publication P. J. Piscaer and B. Glas with the Title "Use of photozone / UV for groundwater treatment" and the publication by F.R. McGregor, P.J. Piscaer and E. M. Aieta, entitled "Economics of treating waste gases from an air stripping tower using photochemically generated ozone "(8th Ozone World Oongress, Zurich, Sept. 1987) it is known to be a UV radiation source, which at 185 nm emitted, simultaneously to generate ozone and for the irradiation of contaminated groundwater and from it generated strip gases in the presence of ozone. As a result, many difficult to decompose carbon ver bindings - also halogen compounds - in circulation be effectively oxidized.
Many organic compounds pose environmental pollutants that are toxic and only comparatively very small amounts may be contained in drinking water, but are already present in quantities in groundwater today, that exceed the allowable dimension. Exemplary for this are organic chlorine compounds, especially those as Solvents require organic chlorinated hydrocarbon substances (CHC) with 1 and 2 carbon atoms, the toxic, carcinogenic and can be mutagenic and in drinking water according to EC standards not to be contained in amounts above 1 µg per liter allowed to. Because of their special properties, they are flat as essential aids of technology as feared Environmental pollutants, cf. chlorinated solvents - Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, Annex to Newsletter from Dr. Schweikl dated December 18, 1987, as well R. Schweikl "Use and disposal of chlorinated coal hydrogens ", circular dated December 18, 1987 of the Environmental Protection Officer of the City of Munich, 2 pages.
The cleaning of saturated aqueous solutions in particular of the various chlorinated hydrocarbons and fluorochlorine hydrocarbons, which total about 0.6 to 1.5 g / l May contain organochlorine impurities, he throws significant problems because the previously used Process (biodegradation; incineration) as uncommon have proven sufficient or problematic. The so far known photochemical processes and devices use radiation sources from a cladding tube of diameter as small as possible and only a few milli meter-thick cooling jacket are surrounded in order to to get the narrowest possible cooling chamber and the cost of the water-cooled radiation unit as low as possible to keep. But it has been shown that they are for the photochemical mineralization of only small concentrations contamination present in water or the photochemical purification of water in the presence of radical-forming absorbers are less suitable.
The invention is based first on the knowledge that peroxide compounds in the reactions carried out here photolytically into highly reactive, oxidizing radicals are split, which then with the to be dismantled or mineralizing impurities in a known manner Can react in a radical chain reaction for example the following, in some cases significant sub-steps reproduced restricted scheme participating individual reactions.
Tabelle 1Table 1
Wichtige Teilreaktionen der oxidativen PhotopurifikationImportant partial reactions of oxidative photopurification
According to this scheme, the photolysis of the Radicals formed peroxide compounds the effective Agent, which is only schematically represented by RH and C = C attacks contaminants. The one there Intermediates formed are themselves very reactive again capable radicals, the others, not in detail given follow-up reactions that are known per se, which especially in the presence of oxygen, which from Hydrogen peroxide are formed or separately in the be blasted medium can be introduced to the desired th mining or the desired mineralization.
Bildungsgeschwindigkeit
The invention is based on the finding that the fewer termination and capture reactions compete with the radical propagation reactions, the more effectively the oxidative photopurification can be carried out. The speed of the radical propagation reactions is proportional to the steady-state concentration of the radicals, which are formed photolytically from the absorber and which trigger the radical oxidations. When hydrogen peroxide is photolyzed, the hydroxyl radical is formed at the rate of formation
+vOH = I.k1.[H2O2];
+ v OH = Ik 1. [H 2 O 2 ];
darin sind I die Bestrahlungsstärke und k1 die Quanten ausbeute der Photolyse (hier = 1).where I is the irradiance and k 1 is the quantum yield of photolysis (here = 1).
Die so entstandenen Hydroxylradikale verschwinden in
einer Terminationsreaktion, im wesentlichen durch Rekom
bination mit der Geschwindigkeit
The resulting hydroxyl radicals disappear in a termination reaction, essentially by recombination at speed
-vOH = k2 [OH]2.-v OH = k 2 [OH] 2 .
Es gilt dann
Then it applies
+vOH = -vOH.+ v OH = -v OH .
Propagationsreaktionen, d. h. Abbau und Mineralisation be
wirkenden Hydroxylradikale durch
It follows that the stationary concentration of the propagation reactions, ie degradation and mineralization, be effective
gegeben ist.given is.
It can be seen from the previous scheme that the reaction the hydroxyl radicals with hydrogen peroxide to the desired propagation can compete if the water peroxide concentration is set too high. As well then recombination also competes wished propagation. On the other hand, the absorption of radiation from hydrogen peroxide in general wavelength range relatively small: the decadal molar absorption coefficient of Hydrogen peroxide at 254 nm only the value 19. The result resulting desire for high concentrations to Er The aim is high absorption of the effective radiation counterproductive with regard to the desired propagation, since in such circumstances the capture reaction according to II.c) and the bimolecular termination are favored.
The invention is further based on the knowledge that the Square root dependence of the photostationary hydroxyl radical concentration from the irradiance as from the hydrogen peroxide concentration basically ver is different from the conditions, as in the photo disinfection, cf. for example DE-OS 27 35 550. Under these circumstances the Grotthus Draper's law, according to which the sub punch-absorbed radiation for sales at the photo reaction-determining, and Bunsen-Roscoe's law, after which the amount of photo products formed by the Be radiation intensity and the radiation duration proportional is, the radiation intensity and the irradiation duration in reverse relation to each other.
The square root dependence of the reaction rate in the present case the consequence that the stationary concentration of the effective Agent, for example the hydroxyl radicals, for example only reduced to a tenth if the irradiation strength or the hydrogen peroxide concentration decreases by a factor of 100. That means that in the present Fall the irradiance (and also the hydrogen peroxide concentration) has a much smaller influence the photochemical conversion and thus the degradation or Mineralization of the impurity has than in the other Case of photo disinfection. The following shows this Table. In the case of an annular photoreactor, it contains the Radial distance from the radiation source, the insolation area, the irradiance, the square root of the Irradiance and a gain factor specified. The gain factor is the ratio of the quotient th square root of the irradiance at one selected radial distance to the smallest radial distance and the quotient of the irradiance at the chosen one Radial distance to the smallest radial distance, accordingly the square root of the quotient of the chosen radial distance to the smallest radial distance.
Bestrahlungsstärke als Funktion des Radialabstandes beim annularen Photoreaktor mit einer Strahlungs quelle einer Länge von 100 cm und einer Emission von 15 W/cmIrradiance as a function of radial distance in the case of the annular photoreactor with one radiation source with a length of 100 cm and an emission of 15 W / cm
It can be seen from this table that the irradiance with an increase in the radial distance of 3 cm 4 cm decreases by a factor of 0.75, while the square root only decreases by a factor of 0.866. That means in relation to the stationary concentration of the hydroxyl radicals that this by the factor at the lower irradiance 1.16 is higher than in cases where their concences tration of the irradiance would be directly proportional. The remaining gain factors in the right column of the Tables are alike in terms of value calculated at a radial distance of 3 cm.
DE-OS 29 04 242.In the known photochemical disinfection, in the the turnover is proportional to the irradiance the annular photoreactors usually with an opti painted penetration depth or layer thickness or operated at which the irradiance of the incident Radiation has decreased to 43.7%, cf. DE-OS 29 04 242.
This does not apply to the photopurification considered here because their speed is the square root of the radiation strength is proportional. The corresponding intrusion deep or layer thickness at which the reaction rate has dropped to a tenth, the which is the square root of the irradiance Tenth has dropped, d. H. the irradiance Has dropped 1/100.
Sonntag über "Chemical Principles behind the use of UV-radiation and/or oxidants (ozone and hydrogen peroxide) in water pollution control" keinerlei Hinweise auf die Möglichkeiten der Quadratwurzelfunktion als technischer Leitfunktion. So far, the square root dependence of the oxidative Photopurification of the irradiance and the con concentrations of the radical-forming absorbers in the con structure and operation of technical flow photoreak gates have not been taken into account, cf. for example J. P. Schulz, "UV radiation sources for the oxidation of harmful substances substances in liquids and gases "in CUTEC publications series, Clausthal Environmental Academy, "Wet Oxidative Ab water treatment, research-development-state of the art ", Editor A. Vogelpohl, 1993, pages 1 to 14) by usual photoreactors with layer thicknesses of 4 to 5 cm, which is directly attached to the cladding tube of the radiation source connect, and relatively high hydrogen peroxide concentrations trations are used. Also found in the one lecture on this conference by Cl. v. Sunday over "Chemical Principles behind the use of UV-radiation and / or oxidants (ozone and hydrogen peroxide) in water pollution control "no indication of the possibilities of the Square root function as a technical guiding function.
Accordingly, the object of the invention is a method and an apparatus of the aforementioned Specify the type of optimal exploitation of the UV radiation source emanating radiation and thereby a optimal use of the radical-forming absorbers oxidative photopurification of the oxidizable carbon enable connections.
With regard to the method and the device according to the Invention this object is achieved in that the one radiation area of the photoreactor at a radial distance of more than 3 cm from the longitudinal axis of the radiation source is arranged. This distance is advantageously located in the range of more than 3 cm to 13 cm, preferably 4 cm to 9 cm. The radiation source can be directly from the Radiation area of the photoreactor can be surrounded, it can but also between the radiation source and the radiation the surface of the photoreactor, a cladding tube can be arranged, through which a spacing chamber between the cladding tube and the Irradiation surface of the photoreactor is formed.
This way the whole of the radiation source outgoing radiation in the photoreactor with a ver irradiated equally reduced irradiance, whereby the propagation reactions towards the termina tion reactions and interception favors and the Efficiency or quantum yield of the overall process increased becomes.
The favorable effect of lower irradiance for Example of CHC cleaning of groundwater and Achieving high levels of purity can also be achieved by re relatively low concentrations of the radical-forming Ab sorbers (50 to 90% absorption in single-chamber photoreactors and 70% total absorption in dual chamber photoreactors Beginning of the irradiation). Through the the same at lower absorber concentrations more moderate distribution of the active species in the radiograph medium increases the efficiency of the overall process, so that the impurities are broken down to an extent can, which extends over many powers of ten and for example in the case of CHC contamination in groundwater Can deliver radiation product with a purity that the EC standard of <1 µg AOX / l is sufficient.
Often it is not useful to use oxidizing absorbers and orga from the very beginning stoichiometric ratio or with excess to irradiate oxidizable absorber. For example, you can for leachate depending on COD (= chemical oxygen relatively high absorber concentrations be obtained if stoichiometric conditions are present should. In such cases, most of the one urgent radiation in the first millimeters of the layer absorbs the thickness of the irradiated medium, which and heat exchange could be detrimental; moreover they are Quantum yields based on the square root function of the Ab sorber concentration dependent. For the reasons described it is advisable to keep low in the reactor during the irradiation rigorous absorber concentrations through continuous addition of absorber consumption.

Fig. 3 is a schematic representation of a Prior apparatus for carrying of the method according proper using the photoreactor according to Fig. 1 or 2.
The longitudinal sectional view of Fig. 1 shows a chamber photoreactor 1 with a cladding tube 2 made of quartz, which is intended for receiving the radiation source (not shown), which for example consists of one or more medium pressure mercury lamps with a power consumption of 10 to 250 W / cm arc length. Instead, for example, low-pressure mercury lamps, high-pressure mercury lamps, doped mercury lamps, doped high-pressure xenon lamps etc. can also be used. The cladding tube 2 is provided at the upper, open end with mounting and connection means 3 for the radiation source and closed at the lower end. The lower, closed end rests in a support 4 . The actual irradiation chamber 5 of the single-chamber photoreactor 1 is formed by a quartz tube 6 , which determines the irradiation area of the single-chamber photoreactor 1 , and a stainless steel tube 7 . The outer stainless steel tube 7 carries near its opposite ends connection piece 8 with connecting flanges 9 for connection to supply and discharge lines for the medium to be irradiated. At its upper end, the two tubes 6 and 7 are sealed by a conventional flange connection 10 with the upper end of the cladding tube 2 and a closing part 11 , through which the cladding tube 2 extends downwards and with a connecting piece 12 with a connecting flange 13 Passage of protective gas is provided. The lower end of the tubes 6 and 7 is connected in a conventional manner by a sealing body 14 with a connecting flange 15 of a connecting piece 16 from sealing, which is used for the passage of protective gas. The medium to be irradiated and the protective gas are expediently passed in countercurrent through the one-chamber photoreactor. The connecting flange 15 receives a perforated plate 17 on which the support 4 for the lower end of the cladding tube 2 is supported. One or (as shown) two radiation sensors 18 are attached to the side of the outer stainless steel tube 7 , by means of which the transmission of the irradiated medium can be measured. This measurement serves on the one hand to monitor the operation of the radiation source and on the other hand to control the flow of the medium to be irradiated (swu).
. In one embodiment of Einkammerphotoreaktors 1 of Figure 1, the casing tube 2 has an outside radius of 3 cm (outside diameter 6 cm), the inner quartz tube 6 (cm outer diameter 14; wall thickness 0.32 cm) having an inner radius of 6.68 cm and the Stainless steel tube 7 has an inner radius of 12 cm (outer diameter 24 cm). A single-chamber photoreator 1 is thus formed, which contains a spacing chamber 19 with a layer thickness of 3.68 cm between the cladding tube 2 and the actual radiation chamber 5 formed by the tubes 6 and 7 and whose radiation chamber 5 has a layer thickness of 5 cm. With a total length of 100 cm, the radiation chamber 5 has a volume of 29.8 l. From this, a flow of 107.4 m 3 / h is calculated at a linear flow rate of 1 m / s. In the cladding tube 2 there is a 5.8 kW medium pressure mercury lamp with an arc length of 60 cm.
bestimmt. Der Lösung wurde Wasserstoffperoxid in einer
Menge von 0,1 g/l entsprechend 2,94 mMol/l (0,2 g/l
50%ige wäßrige Lösung) zugesetzt. 1,1,1-Trichlorethan
und Wasserstoffperoxid reagieren nach der Bruttoreaktion
A saturated aqueous solution of 1,1,1-trichloroethane is examined which contains 140 mg / l corresponding to 1.05 mmol / l of 1,1,1-trichloroethane. The trichloroethane concentration was determined by gas chromatography before and after the irradiation. Hydrogen peroxide was added to the solution in an amount of 0.1 g / l corresponding to 2.94 mmol / l (0.2 g / l 50% aqueous solution). 1,1,1-trichloroethane and hydrogen peroxide react after the gross reaction
Cl3C-CH3 + 3 H2O2 = 2 CO2 + 3 HCl + 3 H2O.Cl 3 C-CH 3 + 3 H 2 O 2 = 2 CO 2 + 3 HCl + 3 H 2 O.
The composition of the solution comes from this reaction equation very close.
The distance chamber 19 is flowed through by a slow stream (3-10 l / h) of high-purity nitrogen to avoid harmful oxygen effects. After stoving the radiation source, 25 µg / l 1,1,1-trichloroethane are still contained in the outlet when the medium flows through 180 l / h, ie the concentration has been reduced by a factor of 1.786.10 -4 ; the electricity consumption for this was 32.2 kWh / m 3 .
In a comparative experiment, the same solution was promoted by a conventional single-chamber photoreactor without a distance chamber, in which the radiation chamber connected directly to the cladding tube in the direction of radiation. The cladding tube had an outside radius of 3 cm (outside diameter 6 cm); the radiation chamber was delimited by the cladding tube and an outer tube with an inner radius of 8 cm (outer diameter 16 cm). The radiation chamber thus has a layer thickness of 5 cm and a length of 100 cm with a volume of 17.27 l; at a linear flow rate of 1 m / s, the flow is 62.2 m 3 / h. The same radiation source and the same solution were used.
At a flow rate of 130 l / h and an energy consumption of 45 kWh / m 3 , the 1,1,1-trichloroethane was reduced to a concentration of 25 µg / l corresponding to 0.187 µmol / l, ie by a factor of 1.786.10 -4 .
A comparison of Examples 2 and 1 teaches the following: In both examples, the layer thickness of the Restrah treatment chamber is 5 cm. The radiation absorption by 1,1,1-trichloroethane is negligible in the range effective here compared to that by hydrogen peroxide. The Dekadi logarithmic extinction coefficient of hydrogen peroxide is 19 1M -1 cm -1 at 254 nm; at the concentration of 2.94.10 -3 M / l used here and the layer thickness of 5 cm, the extinction at 254 nm is 0.2793, ie at the beginning of the irradiation 52.6% of the incident radiation is transmitted at this wavelength or 47.4% absorbed. The irradiance is reduced in Example 1 due to the presence of the spacing chamber 19 and the conditional increase in the irradiation area compared to that of Example 2. Nevertheless, a significantly improved result is achieved in Example 1 in the presence of the spacer chamber 19 : with regard to the flow, ie the conversion of 1,1,1-trichloroethane and the energy consumption, the result is improved by a factor of 1.39. This result contradicts the Bunsen-Roscoe law mentioned at the beginning that the irradiance and the irradiation time are inversely proportional!
stoffperoxid. Die Bruttoreaktion ist
Very similar results are obtained if tetrachlorethylene is used instead of 1,1,1-trichloroethane. The aqueous solution contained 90 µg / l corresponding to 0.542 µM / l tetrachlorethylene and 0.1 g / l corresponding to 2.94 µM / l hydrogen peroxide. The gross response is
C2Cl4 + 2 H2O2 = 2 CO2 + 4 HCl.C 2 Cl 4 + 2 H 2 O 2 = 2 CO 2 + 4 HCl.
In the classic single-chamber photoreactor according to Example 2 with a 7.5 kW medium-pressure mercury lamp, the tetrachlorethylene was degraded at a flow rate of 130 l / h with 57.7 kWh / m 3 to a residual concentration of 1.25 µg / l. In the single-chamber photoreactor with the distance chamber 19 according to Example 1, however, in the same solution with the same flow (130 l / h) and the same energy consumption (57.7 kWh / m 5 ), a breakdown to a residual concentration of 0.2 to He aims at 0.4 µg / l tetrachlorethylene. The presence of the spacer chamber 19 thus brings about an improvement in the effect by a factor of 3 to 6, based on the reduction of low CHC concentrations.
The classic single-chamber photoreactor according to Example 2 was connected on the inlet side to a mixing chamber in which a concentrated aqueous sodium persulfate solution was metered into a saturated aqueous solution of trichloroethene (350 mg / l corresponding to 2.68 mM / l) to the extent that the by downstream measuring device measured transmission T (1 cm; 254 nm) = 0.75. 88.1% of the incident radiation is then absorbed in the radiation chamber with a layer thickness of 5 cm. With a flow rate of 160 l / h corresponding to an energy consumption of 36.25 kWh / m 3 through the single-chamber photoreactor, the trichlorethylene is broken down to a residual concentration of 25 µg / l.
Fig. 2 shows another embodiment, schematically shows in longitudinal section of the photoreactor according to the invention in the form of a double-chamber photoreactor 21st Double chamber photoreactors are known per se in various versions from DE-OS 27 35 550.6 and 29 04 242 by the same applicant and are therefore described below only with regard to the details which are important for the present application.
The double-chamber photoreactor 21 shown in FIG. 2 contains the same radiation source (not shown) and the same cladding tube as the one-chamber photoreactor 1 shown in FIG. 1 ; the cladding tube is therefore also designated 2 . The cladding tube 2 is provided with mounting and connection means 3 for the radiation source as there. The cladding tube 2 is coaxially surrounded by a spacer tube 22 made of quartz, which is closed at the lower end and held at the upper end and is provided with connections (not shown) for the passage of the aforementioned slow high-purity nitrogen stream. The spacer tube 22 , which determines the radiation area of the double-chamber photoreactor 21 , is coaxially surrounded by a quartz separation tube 23 , which is closed at the lower end with a perforated plate 24 , to which a support 25 for the lower closed end of the spacer tube 22 can be attached. The lower end of the quartz separating tube 23 leads to an outlet 26 for the be irradiated medium, which is only indicated schematically by an arrow. The quartz separating tube 23 is coaxially surrounded by an outer tube 27 , which is sealingly connected to the quartz separating tube 23 at the lower end and contains an inlet 28 for the medium to be irradiated, which is indicated only schematically by an arrow. At the upper end, the outer tube 27 projects beyond the quartz separating tube 23 and is sealed by a cover 29, only shown schematically, which extends at a distance from the upper end of the quartz separating tube 23 and is sealingly connected to the spacer tube 22 . This creates an overflow 30 , which is indicated by an arrow. To even out the flow, 30 perforated plates 31 and 32 are held above the inlet 28 and in the cover 29 above the overflow ge.
The two-chamber photoreactor 21 thus consists of a spacing chamber 33 which is formed between the cladding tube 2 and the spacing tube 22 , an irradiation chamber 34 which is internal with respect to the radiation source and which is formed between the spacing tube 22 and the quartz separating tube 23 , and one with regard to FIG Radiation source outer radiation chamber 35 which is formed between the quartz separation tube 23 and the outer tube 28 .
In one embodiment, the dual-chamber photoreactor according to Fig. 2, the casing tube 2 having an outer radius of 2.5 cm (outside diameter 5 cm), the spacer tube 22 has an outer radius of 4.17 cm (external diameter 8.34 cm), the quartz partition tube 23 an inner radius of 6.5 cm (inner diameter 13 cm) and an outer radius of 6.82 cm (outer diameter 13.64 cm) and the outer tube 28 an outer radius of 26.8 cm (outer diameter 53.6 cm). This results in a layer thickness of 1.35 cm for the distance chamber 33, a layer thickness of 2.33 cm for the inner radiation chamber 34 and a layer thickness of 20 cm for the outer radiation chamber 35 . With a total length of 100 cm, the inner radiation chamber 34 has a volume of 7.8 l and the outer radiation chamber 35 has a volume of 211 l.
Through the radiation chambers 34 and 35 , a saturated aqueous solution of tetrachlorethylene is promoted (130 mg / l corresponding to 0.784 µM / l), which contains 0.05 g / l accordingly 1.47 mM / l hydrogen peroxide. This solution absorbs 75.5% of the incident radiation at the beginning of the radiation due to the hydrogen peroxide in the total layer thickness of 22 cm. With a flow of 120 l / h and an energy consumption of 48.3 kWh / m 3 , a residual concentration of 3.0 µg / l corresponding to 0.1 µM / l tetrachloroethene is still contained in the irradiated medium.
In a comparative experiment with a classic one-chamber photoreactor according to Example 2, but with a layer thickness of 7.4 cm and with a concentration of hydrogen peroxide of 0.1 g / l corresponding to 2.94 mmol / l at the beginning of the irradiation, the tetrachloroethene is used a flow of 65 l / h and an energy consumption of 89.2 kWh / m 3 reduced to a residual concentration of 2 µg / l.
In a further comparison experiment with a single-chamber photoreactor according to Example 1 with a distance chamber with a layer thickness of 4 cm and a radiation chamber with a layer thickness of 7.4 cm and with a concentration of hydrogen peroxide of 0.1 g / l corresponding to 2.94 mmol / l at the beginning of the irradiation, the same residual tetrachlorethylene concentration of 25 µg / l was achieved with a flow rate of 95 l / h and an energy consumption of 61 kWh / m 3 . This corresponds to an improvement by a factor of 1.46 or 46% compared to the previous comparison test.
Compared to the comparative experiments described, the double-chamber photoreactor 21 thus achieves a considerable improvement in the effect, namely by a factor of 1.846, ie by 84.6%, compared to the classic single-chamber photoreactor. Even compared to the one-chamber photoreactor 1 with distance chamber, the effect is still improved by a factor of 1.26, ie by 26%. It is essential, however, that the concentration of hydrogen peroxide at the start of the radiation in the double-chamber photoreactor was only half as high and the residual concentration of tetrachlorethylene was further reduced by a factor of approximately 8.
The inlet 28 of the dual-chamber photoreactor 21 according to FIG. 2 is connected to a mixing chamber in which a saturated aqueous solution of trichloroethene (350 mg / l corresponding to 2.68 mM / l) a concentrated aqueous sodium persulfate solution was metered in to the extent that the through- a downstream measuring device measured transmission T (1 cm; 254 nm) = 0.91. In the total layer thickness of 22 cm, this solution absorbs 89% of the incident radiation. At a flow of 380 l / h and an energy consumption of 15.3 kWh / m 3 , the trichlorethylene went down to a residual concentration of 25 µg / l corresponding to a reduction factor of 7.14.10 -5 . With a reduced flow of 250 l / h and an energy consumption of 23.2 kWh / m 3 , the residual concentration of trichloroethene was only 0.9 µg / l, a reduction factor of 2.57.10 -6 , ie a concentration reduction of almost 6 powers of ten.
Compared to Example 3, in which a classic single-chamber photoreactor without a spacer chamber was used, the use of the double-chamber photoreactor 21 with a spacer chamber had an improved effect by a factor of 2.375, i.e. by 137.5%, although the sodium persulfate was present in a lower concentration and less radiation was sorbed.
The single- and double-chamber photoreactors described in the exemplary embodiments described above are preferably arranged vertically. You can have a distance chamber 19 or 33 with a layer thickness between 0.5 cm and 10 cm and is preferably between 0.5 cm and 6 cm. In a not particularly Darge presented modification is provided to drop the cladding tube 2 ent and to arrange the radiation source coaxially in the quartz tube 6 of the single-chamber photoreactor 1 and the spacer tube 22 of the double-chamber photoreactor 21 , thereby forming a spacing space that has a radial distance between the Longitudinal axis of the radiation source and the quartz tube 6 or spacer tube 22 in the range of more than 3 cm to 13 cm and preferably between 4 cm and 9 cm. In this way, the cladding tube 2 can be dispensed with without causing the radiation source to overheat, since the distance of the radiation source from the enlarged irradiation surface is greater and this is cooled by the irradiated medium passing through, without this in turn being excessively local is heated. To protect against the harmful effects of oxygen, a slow high-purity nitrogen flow is also passed through here.
The double-chamber photoreactor 21 is preferably formed in such a way that the ratio of the layer thicknesses of the inner and outer radiation chambers 34 , 35 is in the range from 1: 3 to 1:40. The flow takes place in countercurrent, the medium to be irradiated entering the outer radiation chamber 35 .
In the operation of the photoreactors described above for the oxidative purification of groundwater or drinking water, the medium to be irradiated is mixed with the radical-forming absorber in such an amount that at least 50% of the incident radiation is absorbed at the beginning of the irradiation, this value in the double chamber photoreactor 21 may be higher because of its greater layer thickness, for example 75.7% in Example 4 and 90% in Example 5.
The flow operation of the single- and double-chamber photoreactors described above can be controlled with the aid of radiation sensors 18 and 36 , which are arranged shortly before the end or the upper end of the outer irradiation chamber 35 , provided that the necessary optical conditions during the Irradiation are fulfilled. The radiation sensor 18 or 36 emits a signal corresponding to the transmission of the medium, which can be supplied, for example, to a display device which then displays the transmission which, at the end of the passage through the respective radiation chamber 5 or 35, still exists. The signal can also, also in a manner known per se, be applied to a pump control for a pump through which the medium to be radiated is conveyed through the photoreactor 1 or 21 . Instead, the signal can also be applied to a known power control for the radiation source (EP 0 179 376). The flow and / or the radiation power of the radiation source can thus be adapted to the respective purification requirement.
In the case of the double-chamber photoreactor 21 , the feed pump or the radiation power of the radiation source is advantageously controlled by the signal from the radiation sensor 36 such that the decimal logarithmic extinction near the end of the outer radiation chamber 35 assumes a value in the range from 0.20 to 0.40, which one From sorption of 56% in the range from 37% to 60% and a transmission in the range from 63% to 40%.
A further improvement in purification can be achieved by sensitizing the photolysis of peroxide compounds, in particular hydrogen peroxide, through finely divided, semiconducting metal compounds such as titanium dioxide (Degussa, Pe 25 ). In addition to the UVC range, titanium dioxide is also photochemically active in the longer-wave UVB and UVA range above 270 nm to 400 nm, in which hydrogen peroxide is no longer significantly absorbed, which also means that the strong mercury lines at 280, 296, 302, 313, 334 and 366 nm can be used for the photopurification. The finely divided titanium dioxide causes scattering and absorption at a concentration of 50 mg / l in the range below 300 nm quasitransissions of T (1 cm) = 0.18 and above 350 nm of T (1 cm) = 0.20 to 0.23. It could be shown that additions of up to 0.1 g / l titanium dioxide to a saturated aqueous solution of tetrachlorethylene and hydrogen peroxide can almost double the conversion. With this effect, the UV scatter in the entire area may make an additional contribution. The solid titanium dioxide can be removed from the irradiated medium in a manner known per se.
The following table 3 shows the design data of annular single-chamber and double-chamber photoreactors with axial medium-pressure mercury lamps. Both have the following coordinated dimensions, the photoreactors designated I and II containing no cladding tube 2 and the photo reactors designated Ia and IIa containing a cladding tube 2 .
Tabelle 3Table 3
The distance between the radiator and the photoreactor or the distance chambers between the cladding tube 2 and the photo reactor are flushed with a slow stream of inert gas, for example 3 to 10 l / h of ultrapure nitrogen.
The photoreactors are set up for gassing with oxygen. Here as with the other photoreactors can be on the inside side of the outer chamber along the running path feed means for the radical-forming absorber can be provided to this to be continuously supplemented or its given concentration maintain.
(Verhältnis der Oxidationsäquivalente von O2 zu H2O2 wie 32/68 = 1/2,125).Converted to the wavelength of 254 nm, the radiator output of 10 kW with an assumed UV component of 12% can provide radiation with "total absorption", approx. 9.17 mol / hour quantum (254 nm) or hypothetically with the quantum yield 1 approx 9.17.34 = decompose 311.7 g / h H 2 O 2 . If the reaction takes place z. B. with the quantum yield 6 , eg in the photooxidation of formaldehyde with hydrogen peroxide, then with a 10 kW radiator in the above arrangement, approximately 312.6 = 1,872 g of hydrogen peroxide are to be fed uniformly every hour. Theoretically, this consumption of 1.87 kg / h H 2 O 2 would correspond to a COD degradation of 1.87 / 2.125 = 0.88 kg / h COD. (Ratio of the oxidation equivalents of O 2 to H 2 O 2 such as 32/68 = 1 / 2.125).
For larger cleaning services are appropriate several Type I units connected in series. The UV permeability of the effluent treated medium Finally, T (1 cm) = 0.65 to 0.7 should not exceed stride. In the case of high cleaning requirements, you will be the one Series of single-chamber photoreactors I with one or more series-connected double-chamber photoreactors II break up. This can generate radicals between the reactors Absorber supplied and the medium cooled if necessary will.
Durchflusses Mischprobleme ergeben. Dem kann auf ver
schiedene Weise entgegengewirkt werden:
In radiation chambers, in which radical-forming absorbers are fed in over the length, especially with layer thicknesses of about 7.5 cm, mixing problems can arise during the flow. This can be counteracted in various ways:
- a) Durch einen durch Glasfritten zugeführten, fein ver teilten, zweckmäßig Sauerstoff enthaltenden Gasstrom.a) Through a fine ver shared, appropriately oxygen-containing gas stream.
- b) Durch Rühren, insbesondere eine peripher angeordnete, an sich bekannte Rührvorrichtung mit radial gerichteten Rührpaddeln, die den Strahlengang nur minimal beein flussen. b) by stirring, in particular a peripherally arranged, known stirring device with radially directed Paddle paddles that only minimally affect the beam path rivers.
By the same at different heights over the circumference moderately distributed tapping points that have one circulation pump are connected to a mixing chamber into which further radical-forming absorber is added, and the ver with radial injectors on the photoreactor is bound.
Fumigation of the irradiated medium with oxygen during the flow has further advantageous effects. The oxidative photopurification is done with water alone carried out peroxide, so is the photochemical dis proportioning of hydrogen peroxide to water and Oxygen the only source of oxygen then the propagation freak indicated in Table 1, II.b) tion is received. The react in the start reaction by the reaction of the start radicals with the oxidizable Carbon formed radicals with the acid material to highly reactive radical intermediates, whereby the oxidative photopurification continues overall is promoted. Photochemical disproportionation however, hydrogen peroxide leads to quantum loss of hydroxyl radical formation, which trigger the radical oxidation. It has demonstrated that this quantum loss response is suppressed when acid in the irradiated medium is dissolved or is constantly being redissolved. Experience according to may require over half of the stoichiometric Hydrogen peroxide to be replaced by oxygen.
angegebenen Strahlerenergien
If the oxidative photopurification is carried out with a stoichiometrically required amount of 26 g of hydrogen peroxide per 100 Wh of UV (254 nm), then the radiation energies given are as follows
Bei einer Sauerstoffzufuhr von 31 bzw. 62 bzw. With an oxygen supply of 31, 62 or 122 g / h can therefore reduce the amount of hydrogen peroxide to half be reduced. The hydrogen is expediently peroxide on some along the length of the photoreactor divided feed points introduced into the medium.
For these reasons, it is of advantage in principle that Gassing medium with oxygen during the irradiation. The oxygen is expediently circulated guided.
The oxygen cycle therefore also offers the possibility speed, the coal produced by photopurification remove dioxide from the medium. Prerequisite for this is compliance with a pH value of pH 3 and below. This is important for achieving good quantum yields Adjusting the pH is important because of the unwanted interception losses on hydroxyl radicals Conversion to acid with carbonate and bicarbonate ions radicals with low oxidation potential (see Table 1, II.c), interfering interception reactions).
(For the photopurification of cyanide or cyanide complexes containing media such as electroplating or coking plant wastewater must be maintained by maintaining a pH of 10 and above ensure that no hydrocyanic acid is released can be).
It is particularly advantageous if the oxygen fumigation under a slight oxygen overpressure of up to 4 bar.
In the examples described above are Hydrogen peroxide and sodium persulfate as radical bil End absorbers have been used; in their place can many other peroxy compounds such as peroxides, peroxi acids etc. are used. For that come through Peroxides generated from the impurities (ozonides) into consideration.
The photo reactions described above can also general for COD degradation in wastewater and leachate to serve. The 5.8 kW mercury Medium pressure emitter based on 254 nm a photon current of 600 Wh UVC / 130 Wh = 4.61 mol / h. Does that happen Photolysis of hydrogen peroxide with the quantum loot 1, 4.61 M / h of hydrogen peroxide are decomposed or 2.3 mol / h of oxygen corresponding to 73.75 g / h for Provided with which 73.75 g COD / h are broken down can.
So much for the photochemistry in the UVC range through absorption contamination is restricted, the Sensi bilization through finely divided, semiconducting metal Compounds like titanium dioxide can help Wavelengths up to 400 nm is active, which also makes the strong mercury lines at 280, 296, 302, 313, 334 and 366 nm can be used. The addition of Titanium dioxide has the other in the presence of oxygen Advantage that with its help even without the participation of Hydrogen peroxide oxidative photopurification effects be initiated.
In the presence of oxygen, the visible long-wave radiation area are opened up, if the medium to be irradiated is singlet oxygen sensitizers (eosin, rose bengal, porphine, methylene blue) can be added. This allows in particular also oxidatively break down proteins and peptides. The from the Proteins and peptides obtained reaction products are then subject to further oxidative degradation of the photo purification. The sensitizers will eventually under the effect of UV radiation and peroxides too self-dismantled.
Another embodiment of a flow reactor forms a tank reactor. This can be, for example a plastic or stainless steel container of 800 mm diameter knives, the bottom with an inlet and the top with an outlet for the flow of the medium is provided. Three distance immersion heaters with an outside diameter of 160 mm (Radiation source unit with 6 cm diameter cladding tube knife and spacer tube of 10 cm diameter or cladding tube of 8 cm in diameter) are placed at equal intervals a circle of 40 cm concentric with the container Diameter mounted vertically in the container lid. Of the Reactor is on the ground with fine pore frits for oxygen Fumigated and contains at least under each Spotlights this device. This results in a length of 1 m a cylinder volume of 487.3 l, of which the volume of the three submersible with 46.2 l comes off the liquid volume of 442.1 l per meter cylinder length.
With 3 × 12 kW medium-pressure mercury lamps, calculated at the beginning of the lamp operation as an equivalent of 254 nm, approx. 12% of the power consumption can be estimated as oxidation-effective UV radiation = 4,320 UVC Wh / h. This corresponds to the equivalent of (/ 130 UVC / Wh) an output of 33 mol 254 photons per hour.
Each of the aforementioned radiators generates a corresponding amount of heat. With an energy consumption of 3.12 kWh (1 kWh = 3 600 kJ), 442 l of water are therefore heated by 70.2 ° C in one hour or at a flow rate of 1 m 3 / h the temperature increase is 31 ° C per m 3 .
For performing oxidative photopurification can have an elevated temperature to achieve higher quanta exploit or longer reaction chains can be very valuable. In contrast to the addition of oxygen radicals Double bonds require the hydrogen and other abstraction reactions (Table 1, II.a) in the Usually a certain activation energy in the area moderately elevated temperatures, e.g. B. between 30 ° and 90 ° better than available at the usual ambient temperature will. Because of the mostly in the contaminated media lying substance mixtures of impurities can Usefulness of working at elevated temperatures, however are not always foreseen and must therefore first be tested will. There are often also temperature optima.
Depending on the thermal behavior of the irradiated medium cooling measures can therefore be dispensed with, or special cooling measures (cooling jacket, order barrel cooling) can be provided. Is the process optimum at elevated temperature, it must be ensured that from Work is carried out at an elevated temperature right from the start. For this there are two technical solutions. Ent neither a preheating chamber is provided through which the Medium brought to the required temperature thermally or the first reactor in a series from behind interconnected photoreactors are shown with a circle running pump operated in the circuit until the desired Temperature is reached. Because the medium pressure mercury with a UVC yield of approx. 12% predominantly Effect of immersion heaters, it seems more appropriate the preheating of the reaction material by the described Circulatory radiation. If necessary, can each flow photoreactor or between those in series tied flow photoreactors a cooling device for the medium must be arranged.
Oxidative photopurification can also be carried out in batches be carried out in a boiler reactor if the ent speaking requirements are met, e.g. B. a cooling jacket and an oxygen cycle are available. A such a boiler reactor can, for example, in the manner of be constructed tank reactor described above.
Fig. 3 shows a summarized schematic Dar position, the various possible procedures in the oxidative photopurification of a radiation-permeable medium. In it, the photoreactor is designated 37 and can be designed as a flow photoreactor according to FIG. 1 or 2 or as above as a tank reactor or boiler reactor. In the case of the double-chamber photo reactor, the photoreactor 37 carries a UV sensor 38 on the outside of the outlet of its outer radiation chamber, which is connected to a control part 39 of a power supply unit 40 for the radiation source in order to adapt its radiation power to the respective requirements. The medium to be irradiated is conveyed through a filter 43 to an inlet 42 by a feed pump 41 , which can optionally be, for. B. to a storage tank 44 or, in closed circuit operation, can be connected to the outlet 45 . Between the pump 41 and the inlet 42 is a conventional mixing chamber 46 , in which the medium to be irradiated, the radical-forming absorber is mixed from a feed device 47 , by means of which other additives such as sensitizers are supplied. The known to feed device 47 contains a storage vessel which is connected to the mixing chamber 46 via a controlled metering pump and a valve arrangement with a pressure maintaining device.
The mixing chamber 46 is connected to an oxygen supply line 48 for dry oxygen, which is connected via a pump 49 to an oxygen source 50 and enables the medium to be irradiated to be saturated under a pressure of 1 to 4 bar.
In the flow direction upstream of the mixing chamber 46 , a further mixing chamber 51 can optionally be arranged, which is connected to an ozone generator 52 . The ozone generator can also be switched on in the oxygen supply line 48 .
The feed pump 41 is operated by a power supply 53 with a control part 54 , which can be connected via a line 55 to the UV sensor 38 if, instead of or in addition to the power control of the radiation source, the flow of the medium to be irradiated is to be controlled.
The mixing chamber 46 follow a metering device 57 controlled by a pH meter 56 for adjusting the pH and a flow meter 58 and a transmission measuring device 59 , which is connected on the output side to the inlet 42, preferably in a shunt.
The photoreactor 37 can be connected to an oxygen circuit 60 , which contains the pump 49 , which is connected on the output side to a feed line 61 , via which the gas is introduced through one or more fine-pored frits into the photo reactor 37 . On the input side, the pump 49 is connected to an outgoing line 62 provided by the photoreactor 37 with a splash guard, into which a cooler 63 and a carbon dioxide absorber 64 are optionally installed.
The purification product leaves the photoreactor 37 through the outlet 45 . In the process 45 another Trans mission measuring device 65 is connected via a (not shown) liquid filter in the shunt. The output signal of the transmission measuring device 65 can be placed on the line 55 to the control part 54 of the power supply 53 of the feed pump 41 and to the control part 39 of the power supply 40 of the radiation source instead of the output signal of the UV sensor 38 . If the purification product is sufficiently pure, it can be removed from the withdrawal 66 . If the photopurification requires further cleaning, the outlet 45 is placed on a line 67 , which is optionally seen with a temperature meter 68 and a cooler 69 and ends in a switching valve 72 , which can be designed as a 3-way valve. Whose output is connected via a line 71 to the feed pump 41 , whereby the photoreactor 37 can be operated in a circuit. If necessary, the aforementioned pH setting 56 , 57 can also or only be built into the line 67 . Another output of the 3-way valve 71 leads via a feed line 72 to a further, appropriately trained purification stage, which is secured against back flow.
For control purposes, the device shown in FIG. 3 also contains a number of sampling and temperature measuring points not specified in detail.
In Fig. 3 the photoreactor is shown only schematically in connection with its various supply and control devices. It is understood that the arrangement of these devices in detail depends on the con struction of the respective photoreactor and is adapted to these in accordance with further requirements (location of supply lines, available space, etc.). For example, in the photoreactors according to FIGS. 1 and 2, the mixing chamber 46 will be closely connected to the photo reactor or be formed with one part therewith, the various supply lines then leading directly into such a mixing chamber.
The scope of the Ver drive and devices is very far and not on the Mineralization of chlorine described in the examples hydrocarbons limited. Other possible examples are rinsing water and other wastewater from the beverage industry, slaughterhouses, dry cleaners, hospitals, Leather and gelatin factories, paper and cellulose factories after chlorine bleach, ammunition facilities, nitro compounds containing waste water from dye manufacturers and dyeing plants, waste water containing PCBs, fuel and petroleum wastewater containing products, wetting agents ent holding waste water, for example from flotation plants, cyanide-containing waste water from electroplating plants and Waste water from coke ovens and blast furnaces.
Photopurification through the combination of UV rays and peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide or ozone attained great importance because of their environmental compatibility. So far, their application has been offset by their high costs.
Most practical photoreactions, below them also the photodisinfection of drinking water and Wastewater, show the characteristics of the linearity of the photon required according to Bunsen-Roscoe's reciprocity law. The turnover increases linearly with the irradiance or off, the quantum yields are from the radiation strength independently. This statement can be found, for example also in the ideal course of the dose-response principle of the Ultra purple inactivation of the bacteria.
On the other hand, the quantum yields and (usually) depend the sales of the radical radical reactions ongoing photopurification from the square roots of the Irradiance levels and the concentrations of the rays absorber as well as directly from the oxygen concentration.
By adequately considering these relationships in the methods and devices described here for oxidative photopurification can reduce energy consumption, Radiation and other (current and investments) - Photopurification costs at least less than 50 percent be reduced compared to the prior art.
