Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a high molecular weight thermoplastically processable, biodegradable chemical Substance and a process for its manufacture.
Numerous efforts have been made in the patent literature in the known for the past ten years to be made from renewable raw materials biodegradable / compostable thermoplastic to manufacture processable high-molecular materials. Leaves materials with prohibitive manufacturing costs - such as biotechnologically produced polyhydroxyalkanoates (biopol Zeneca Bio Products, Frankfurt) -, too high Products with a tendency to absorb water - as if they were made from Starch and / or polyvinyl alcohol blends and not sufficiently biodegradable / compostable Fabric combinations - such as cellulose acetate / butyrate, or blends from destructurized starch and / or polyvinyl alcohol / Polyethylene copolymers and / or polyacrylic acid disregarded, two groups of remain Inventions that are partially acetylated cellulose (product of Aeterna Lichte GmbH, Hamburg) and the reactive blends thermoplastic starch and polycaprolactone concern. For the processing in the injection molding process is excellent Suitable, partially acetylated cellulose has the disadvantage too slow an incomplete biological Degradability / compostability. The reactive blends out thermoplastic starch and polycaprolactone are for the Processing by injection molding not suitable - this were rather for the extrusion of thin flexible films and foils developed. Furthermore, the heat level strength of the molded parts made from blends with essential Proportions of polycaprolactone were produced only below 60 ° C is sufficient. Polycaprolactone is already starting melt at 60 ° C.
The present invention relates to a material Composition / chemical structure, one thermoplastic Processable high molecular substance, its production and in particular application in the field of biological degradable / compostable packaging materials.
The substance according to the invention is characterized in that that their chemical structure is at least partially associated with Hydroxyalkanoates, especially with 6-hydroxycaproic acid, Lactic acid of the D, L and / or DL form, glycolic acid or β-hydroxybutyric acid substituted esters of high molecular weight Cellulose is (degree of substitution up to 2.5).
According to the invention, some of them are produced during manufacture acetylated cellulose in a polymer analog chemical Reaction by transesterification with hydroxyalkanoates in the corresponding acid derivative of cellulose converted, and above the melting temperature of the cellulose acetate.
Partially acetylated cellulose is preferably used in one polymer-analog chemical reaction - by transesterification with Caprolactone - in the 6-hydroxy-caproic acid derivative of Cellulose converted. The new high molecular chemical Substance - the caproic acid derivative of cellulose - is biodegradable, thermoplastic - especially in the injection molding process - processable and has sufficient mechanical for numerous packaging purposes Properties and resistance to water and moisture Ambient air. To facilitate processing and the technically relevant properties for the applications to adjust, aggregates are added. These Aggregates are used in established plastics technology the chemical composition of the selected high molecular weight substances and the Purpose classified as plasticizer, Flow aids, mold release agents, fillers, Pigments and dyes, antioxidants etc. . These Aggregates only have to be organic be degradable / compostable and in their material Composition of the with hydroxyalkanoates, e.g. B. Caproic acid be substituted for substituted cellulose.
The preparation of the preferred 6-hydroxy caproic acid substituted cellulose is at elevated temperature, above the melting point of the starting material Transesterification with caprolactone produced. As Starting materials are used high-molecular esters of Cellulose with the lowest possible melting point. The Acid component in the cellulose ester should be as possible be volatile to get out of the transesterification reaction To be able to remove reaction mixture by evaporation. Transesterifications are equilibria, and the Chemical conversion can be done by removing the by-products the reaction can be increased significantly. The transesterification reaction between the cellulose ester and the caprolactone can furthermore by adding so-called transesterification catalyst catalysts, such as titanium alkoxylates and titanium amino alkoxylates be promoted. For the same reason, the transesterification of the cellulose ester is a high-boiling lactone used. Apart from caprolactone, there is none on the market Lactone of a hydroxyalkanoate for a comparable price available. In principle, however, each lactone can be one Hydroxyalkanoates, whose cellulose esters are organic is degradable / compostable, used for the transesterification will. When selecting the reaction examples listed are the aspects of the reaction conditions listed here considered.
The transesterification reaction between the cellulose ester and the Caprolactone is used for reasons of economy advantageously in kneading plants with continuous operation, such as Twin-shaft kneaders (extruders) with modifiable Screw geometry or carried out in fine co-kneaders. The Kneading systems should advantageously with gravimetric Dosing systems for liquid and solid substances as well as with electronic temperature and speed controls his. The liquid should be added adjustable pressure advantageously with diaphragm pumps. The liquid should advantageously with pressure-resistant lines, which in turn is pressure-resistant in a hole at a suitable point the extruder housing are attached, are fed. The The plant should also be equipped with a suitable granulating, cooling and packaging device.
For reasons of economy, the invention also suggests before, instead of one intended for further processing Granules immediately after reactive extrusion products in Form of paper coatings, extruded flat films, To produce blown films or filament threads, the following can be spun. This task can be done by default by using the corresponding known per se Nozzle heads can be accomplished on the extruder.
From the granules of the cellulose ester of 6-hydroxy Caproic acid or other hydroxyalkanoates can by thermoplastic processing molded articles, hollow articles, foils and / or fibers are produced. The application of the manufactured products is preferably in the range of Commodities, disposable items, packaging and / or Textiles.
The chemicals used: caprolactone, titanium Tetraaethoxylate are from Fluka AG Buchs, SG (CH) and that Cellulose diacetate purchased from Courtaulds (GB).
