Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for Manufacture of hollow bodies from thermoplastic by means of extrusion blow molding according to the preamble of the claim 1 or that of claim 8.
In the continuous production of preforms from thermo plastic is generally carried out in such a way that the preform after it reaches its required length has and is taken up by the blow mold and ge will hold at its upper end from which the exit opening of the extrusion head flowing material forms the following preform, is separated. It can at the same time the lower end of the subsequent preform be closed. It is also possible to disconnect and to close the preform separately. The Closing is usually done by two jaws, the two opposite sides against the am Extrusion head hanging tube section can be moved and flatten it and squeeze it while doing so forming sealing seam approximately along a diameter of the tubular preform can run. Doing it the tube section also moves to the weld seam closing area essentially transverse to the forming Weld a noticeable change in cross-section since the Thickness of the weld depending on the wall thickness of the Hose section can be less than 1 mm. This through closing the free end of the hose section and cross caused indirectly below the extrusion head Cut change affects the area of Outlet opening. The latter is formed by a matrix det within which a distance is left that the annular nozzle-shaped outlet opening defines a nozzle core is ordered. The by closing the hose section tes caused cross-sectional change leads to the fact that in Be reach the outlet opening the plastic material in those Vertex areas of its annular cross-section, the one Axis are assigned that are approximately perpendicular to the ver Final weld seam runs against the edge between the jacket surface and end face of the nozzle core is pulled, whereby a certain mechanical stress of the continuously flowing plastic material. At we tough and generally less viscous Plastic materials can withstand these mechanical stresses lead to marks in the resulting preform, which affect the appearance of the finished product. About that In addition, the mechanical stresses described above also the physical properties of the finished product ses, for example, its strength. Because of this, the usability of less tough can Plastic materials for the production of, for example Bottles, handle bottles and canisters for holding in particular be limited by liquid filling goods. This is especially true especially disadvantageous because some of them are less tough Plastic materials in general when disposing especially by burning or gasifying the waste, the derar contains hollow bodies as constituents, with respect to the occurring environmental pollution much less problematic are for example PVC. This plastic is easy to use process because it is relatively plasticized tough and therefore against the aforementioned stresses is sensitive. It also has physical properties which makes it particularly suitable for certain filling goods chen.
Accordingly, the object of the invention is a method and to modify the device of the type described in the introduction, that it is possible to use plastic materials in the extrusion Blow molding process that is less viscous and less are tougher than conventional ones, especially for manufacturing materials used in packaging. It is indicated strives that the productivity of the process is not noticeable Reduction and the device used for this no Ge important complication.
This task is carried out with the characteristics in the To indicator claim 1 and claim 8 solved.
It may be appropriate to start with the free end of the preform then to close or lock off from the environment, if this is the one for the manufacture of a hollow body has reached required length. On the other hand, there is also the possibility of closing the lower, free end seal if in the course of preform formation this has reached a length at which the closing of the preform by squeezing the end or by Pressing the end around an air nozzle has no undesirable effects has more on the preform section leading to this Time passes the outlet opening. Such a procedure Management can be particularly in view of the fact in be interesting that the blow mold in the second position, in which is usually the preform widening and the Cooling of the hollow body produced therefrom by expansion as well as the demolding of the same, a much longer stays longer than in the recording position and thus that Can be closed at a time when the Blow mold is in the second position and therefore the means which cause the preform to close and if necessary, perform other functions, move and be handled can without disturbing the blow molded parts.
On the other hand, closing the lower end of the Preform only at a time when the latter its length required for the manufacture of the hollow body has always been advantageous when the lower End of the preform ge around an air nozzle or the like is closed by the compressed air for pre-expanding the Preform is blown into this, because then the nozzle st can be arranged in a conventional manner. In the other case, namely at Seal the lower end of the preform around a nozzle or the like for air supply at a time which the preform has not yet reached its final length it would be necessary in most cases Lich, the nozzle - if necessary with the locking device - correspond according to the preform's extrusion progress to move to the position where the hose is Has reached final length.
Since the invention is essentially based on the consideration that it is in the plastic material in question here lien is necessary to close the lower hose end only close when there is a distance from the outlet of the Extrusion head that is sufficient to impact cross sectional deformations when closing in the area of the outlet To prevent opening, it would theoretically also be possible to the way previously used for continuous extrusion approach. This would mean that the bottom of the up front expanding preform in the area between the extrusion head and closed blow mold in the receiving position is, however, provided that the blow mold in their recording position so far away from the Ex trusion head is that a device for closing the lower end of the next following preform can have a distance from the extrusion head that is is large enough to close the bottom end Ver cross-sectional changes in the area of the outlet opening avoid that have undesirable effects. An arrangement the blow mold in such a way that it is in its receiving position has a sufficiently large distance from the extrusion head, would have the consequence, however, that in each work cycle to extrude a correspondingly longer preform would be un ter would cause the time period during which wel cher the preform hangs on the extrusion head, according to the larger distance would also be larger. In any case, this would have been in the plastic materials with which the invention deals, e.g. B. polyethylene terephthalate (PET) has the disadvantage that because these materials are less viscous than the conventional ones plastic materials used for extrusion blowing, the preform is undesirable, for example under the influence of its own weight, resulting in uncontrollable changes in wall thickness, in particular also lead to the wall thickness distribution in the preform would. It should be noted here that in the majority of the Decrease the wall thickness of the preform over its length, if necessary also about its scope, according to a certain program is placed to z. B. to take into account the fact that in Depending on the shape of the finished hollow body Preform along its length in different ways extent is expanded. Influencing the wall thickness of the preform according to a certain program is part the state of the art. It is used on a large scale det.
B. Poly carbonat (PC).A plastic material, for the processing of which procedures and device according to the invention are particularly suitable already mentioned PET, which physical and chemical egg properties that are similar to PVC for certain fillings ter makes it particularly suitable. In general, however, is the inven can be used with advantage for all plastic materials that have the properties mentioned, i.e. relatively low Toughness, possibly in combination with lower viscosity and resulting less insensitivity to me chanic stresses in warm plastic condition, in wel chem they leave the extrusion head. This includes e.g. B. Poly carbonate (PC).

The extrusion head of the embodiment of FIGS. 1-3 may be constructed for continuous extrusion of thermoplastic material in accordance in a conventional manner, wherein the preforms are accommodated in a form in the form of tube sections of a blow in which the further processing takes place. The general configuration of the extrusion unit consisting of extrusion head, extruder and associated parts is described, for example, in US Pat. No. 4,094,620. Furthermore, in this US-PS, the interaction of the extrusion head of the extrusion unit with the blow mold is disclosed, the blow mold between a receiving station, in which it is located below the extrusion head, and a two th, z. B. located next to the extrusion head Sta tion is reciprocated. Possibilities of arranging egg ner between two stations reciprocable blow mold are such. B. also disclosed in US Pat. No. 3,718,724.
The extrusion head 10 is seen with an outlet opening 12 , from which the tubular preform 16 emerges, which is expanded in the cooperating with the extrusion head 10 blow mold 14 until it rests against the wall of the blow mold nest. The blow mold 14 consists in the embodiment shown in the drawing of two blow mold halves 14 a, 14 b, which are movable in a known manner between an open position and a closed position.
The method according to the prior art proceeds in such a way that the opened blow mold 14 is moved back from its second position into the receiving position according to FIG. 1, shortly before the preform 16 emerging from the extrusion head 10 is used for the production of a hollow body in the Blow mold 14 has the required length. As soon as the latter is the case, the blow mold is closed by moving the two blow mold parts 14 a, 14 b, the preform 16 being pressed near its lower end by the squeezing edges 18 a, 18 b of the two blow mold parts to form a weld seam. This creates a waste part 20 , which consists of excess material.
As soon as the preform 16 is received and held in the course of the closing of the blow mold 14 , the preform 16 in the region between the extrusion head 10 and the blow mold 14 is separated from the material continuously emerging from the extrusion head 10 , which is part of the next preform . This is done in such a way that the lower end of the preform 16 located in the mold is pressed flat together by two clamping jaws 22 a, 22 b and closed to form a weld seam that runs parallel to the parting plane 24 of the mold. The actual separation process takes place in such a way that the upper end of the pre-expanded preform 16 which is in the mold remains open. These processes, i.e. closing the blow mold, closing the lower end of the subsequent hose section and - if necessary simultaneously - separating immediately below the weld seam that is formed in such a way that the upper end of the preform located in the blow mold remains open so quickly that thereby the continuous escape of the thermoplastic material from the extrusion head 10 is not noticeably hindered. Immediately after the separation process has been carried out, the blow mold 14 is moved from its position shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 to the second position, so as to free up the space below the extrusion head for the formation of the subsequent preform. Be already during the manufacture of the preform 26 air can be blown into the forming preform through an arranged in the extrusion head 10 , so that the latter undergoes a pre-expansion during the same extrusion. This can e.g. B. serve to take into account certain cross-sectional shapes of the hollow body to be produced in the blow mold. However, the overpressure required for the pre-expansion within the preform can also prevent the preform from collapsing or otherwise assuming a cross-sectional shape in which, for example, opposite wall regions of the preform come into contact with one another and then stick to one another.
The outlet opening 12 of the extrusion head 10 is delimited on the inside by a core 28 which, while leaving the annular opening forming the outlet opening 12 , is arranged within a die 30 , which limits the annular outlet opening 12 on the outside. The transition between the outer boundary of the core 28 constituting the end face 32 and the lateral surface 34 of the same is formed by the edge 36 ge, when passing the material flow leaves the extrusion head 10 .
It is inevitable that during the assembly crimping and sealing of the lower end section of the following Schlauchab from which the next preform 16 a is formed, the whole at that time from the exit opening 12 is already leaked portion 16 a deformation of its cross section undergoes such that the two mutually opposing wall parts of section 16 a by the action of the jaws 22 a, 22 b are pulled against each other, so that the hose section 16 a parallel to the directions of movement of the jaws 22 a, 22 b undergoes a reduction in diameter and starting from the weld seam is formed at its lower end accepts a more elliptical cross section, which could then inevitably passes in the region of the outlet opening due to there by the parts 28 and 30 certain Geome trie in the cross-sectional shape of the outlet opening 12, which may be a circular ring, but also the Circular ring deviate can have de shape. This, that is, the deformation of the hose section 16 a and the ensuing, already mentioned diameter reduction up to the vertical plane 42 , in which the weld seam caused by the clamping jaws 22 a, 22 b runs, has the result that in the apex areas 40 the outlet opening, which is assigned a diameter 38 , which runs transversely to the closure weld seam at the lower end of the following preform 16 a, is drawn against the edge 36 between the end face 32 and the outer surface 34 of the core 28 , thereby mechanical loading in these areas stress and deformation of the continuously flowing plastic takes place, the z. B. can lead to undesirable markings that impair the appearance of the finished hollow body. This stress will stop at some point in the course of the further extrusion of the preform 16 a, in particular also if, immediately after the preform has been closed, the preform is expanded at its lower end by means of compressed air supplied through the channel 26 arranged in the core 28 . However, this does not change the fact that, in particular at the moment of closing, the above-mentioned mechanical stress is inevitable if the clamping jaws 22 a, 22 b were arranged in such a small amount from the lower end face 32 of the core 28 that the diameter reduction caused by the closing of the lower end of the next preform 16 a affects the area of the outlet opening 12 .
After closing the lower end of the following hose section 16 a and separating the preform 16 located in the blow mold 14 from the hose section 16 a following this, the blow mold with the pre-expanded preform 16 therein is moved into the second station, in which from above For example, a blow mandrel is inserted into the open end of the preform 16 , through which the compressed air for expanding this preform is blown until it abuts against the inner mold wall. After sufficient cooling of the preform produced by this expansion process, the mold is opened to remove the hollow body. Then the opened blow mold is moved back into its receiving position below the extrusion head 10 , in order to accommodate the following preform 16 a, which in the meantime has the required length, in the manner already described for producing the next hollow body.
Since the above in connection with the state of the art technology according to FIGS. 1-3 occur the stresses of the preform in the area of the outlet opening 12 with more sensitive plastics to markings, possibly also weak points, see the in the Fig illustrated embodiment. 4-7 according to the invention, a modified process control and another embodiment of the device used for this front, which avoid the occurrence of such stresses.
Fig. 4 entspricht dem Verfah rensstadium der Fig. 1. In FIGS. 4-7, those parts of it are shown from guide die, corresponding to the parts of the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-3 are given the same, but higher by 100 reference numerals. Fig. 4 corresponds to the procedural stage of Fig. 1. That is, the preform 116 still hanging on the extrusion head 110 has its length required for the production of a hollow body by expansion in the two-part blow mold 114 . In contrast to the known method described in connection with FIGS. 1-3, the preform 116 is still open at its lower end, so that a tubular blowing nozzle 144 in the lower end region 120 of the preform at or shortly before reaching its end length can be introduced relatively. There is the possibility that the blowing nozzle 144 is inserted axially from below into the lower end region 120 of the preform. It is also possible to arrange the blowing nozzle 144 stationary so that the preform 116 is guided with its lower end region over the stationary blowing nozzle 144 in the final phase of its formation.
As soon as the required final length of the preform 116 is sufficient, at least a portion of the lower end region 120 of the preform is moved through the two clamping jaws 122 a, 122 b, which are moved into their closed position shown in FIG Blower nozzle 144 pressed and pressed against it, so as to complete the remaining inner space 148 of the preform to the outside. Then so much air is blown into the preform through the feed channel 150 of the blowing nozzle 144 that the preform undergoes a certain amount of expansion, as is shown, for example, in FIG. 5 of the drawing.
Immediately after or even during the Voraufweitens the blow mold 114 is moved together of the two blow mold parts 114 a, b 114 is closed, as shown in Fig. 6 of the drawings, the pre-expansion z. B. at the end of the closing process can advance so far that the pre-expanded preform 116 is already with partial areas ner wall against the inner boundary 152 of the two blow mold halves 114 a, 114 b limited mold cavity.
In the course of the closing process of the blow mold 114, the lower end portion is squeezed off 120 of the preform 116 falling portion to form an Ab by the inserted within the mold cavity 154 closed portion of the preform 116 where at generally the waste portion 120 of a thin film with the preform portion within Mold nest 154 or remains connected to the hollow body produced therefrom. The waste part 120 can then be later removed by tearing or cutting from the hollow body.
As soon as the preform 116 is held by the blow mold in the course of the closing of the blow mold or at the end of the closing operation, the preform is between the outlet opening of the extrusion head 110 and the blow mold 114 by suitable cutting means 125 , e.g. B. hot cutter or glow wire cutter so cut that once inside the blow mold Liche, pre-expanded preform remains open at its upper end and on the other hand the lower area of the following preform 116 a no change in its cross-section he drives, which to the above in connection with lead to the exemplary embodiment shown in FIGS . 1-3 undesirable stresses. However, this has the consequence that the next preform is first at its lower end of fen and is only sealed after reaching its final length in the manner described above by the jaws 122 a, 122 b in cooperation with the blow nozzle 144 from the environment .
Immediately after the separation process has ended, the blow mold 114 is moved from its first position, in which it is located below the extrusion head 110 , into the z. B. moves laterally ben located second position. The latter is shown in Fig. 7. This reveals the blow mandrel 156 introduced from above into the open end of the preform 116 , which in its end position interacts with the blow molded parts and at this end of the preform 116 also separates excess material 160 and, if appropriate, the area having the opening of the hollow body , for example the neck of a bottle. The compressed air supplied via the blowing mandrel 156 then causes the preform 116 to finally expand to abut the wall 152 of the mold cavity 154 , which is delimited by the two blow mold parts 114 a, 114 b.
It had already been mentioned that the lower end region 120 of the preform 116 , into which the blowing nozzle 144 protrudes for the pre-expansion, represents the section or part of the section which is formed by the squeezing edges 118 a, 118 b of when the blow mold is closed the portion of the preform 116 to be expanded in the mold cavity is separated and forms a waste part. However, this, ie the creation of a waste part, is not a disadvantage of the method according to the invention, since such a waste part is always ent in the extrusion blow molding process. It is therefore not necessary for the preform to be closed at its lower end according to the method of the invention to make the preform longer than it is required per se.
It would of course be possible with the method according to the state of the art, as described above in connection with FIGS. 1-3, to avoid the markings on the blow part, to choose the length of the preform in such a way that the inadmissible manner Pressing against the edge 36 of the core 28 of the outlet opening 12 area of the preform at the end of the manufacture of this preform is in the lower end area, which is the waste part 120 . To do this, however, it would be necessary to make the preform considerably longer than would be necessary for the subsequent production of a hollow body in the blow mold. However, this is precisely what the invention wants to avoid, since otherwise a larger amount of material per hollow body would have to be accepted.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS . 4-7, the unit consisting of jaws 122 a, 122 b and blowing nozzle 144 is attached to the suspension means, which also includes the blow mold 114 and the drive means required for its opening and closing movements are not shown in the drawing. As a result, clamp jaws 122 a, 122 b and blow nozzle 144 participate in the movements of the blow mold between the two stations.
Deviating from the design of the embodiment according to FIGS . 4-7, it is possible to supply the air for the advance, as in the case of the embodiment according to FIGS. 1-3, through a feed channel located in the core 128 of the extrusion head 110 . It would only be necessary to close the lower end of the preform, the two jaws 122 a, 122 b, which then completely close the preform at its lower end without leaving an air inlet opening to form a continuous weld seam ver. In this case, but also in all other cases, it is appropriate to stationarily assign the facilities necessary for the sealing and / or the air supply for the pre-expansion to the first position of the blow mold, so that these parts do not move between the two stations take part. It is necessary to bring the blow nozzle 144 out of engagement with the portion 120 of the preform before the blow mold 114 is moved from its position according to FIG. 6 into that according to FIG. 7. - To avoid misunderstandings, it should be noted that the movement, deviating from the representation of Fig. 7, in practice perpendicular to the plane indicated by arrow 162 , that is perpendicular to the plane of Fig. 6 and thus parallel to the parting plane of the two blow mold parts 114 a, 114 b, in order to take into account the fact that the next preform or an essential section of the same is then taken into account when the blow mold moves back from the position shown in FIG. 7 into the position shown in FIG. 4 Extrusion head 110 hangs.
As already mentioned in the introduction, there is also the possibility of carrying out the closing of the lower end of the preform at a time at which it has not yet reached the final length required for the production of a hollow body. In this case, the air nozzle 144 and possibly also the clamping jaws 122 a, 122 b should be movable according to the movement of the lower end of the preform when extruding the same in order to be able to follow the extrusion progress after the sealing process has already been carried out before the Preform has reached its final length. In any case, however, it should be noted that when the closing process is carried out, the preform already has a length which in any case ensures that the deformation caused by the closing process at the lower end of the preform is no longer in the region of the outlet opening on the extrusion head affects.
