Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method for localization Addressing of postal items such as letters, parcels or the like, insofar as these are designed as stickers or windows are. A precise localization of the address area is in automatic mail distribution systems for address recognition large-format letters of importance because this makes the address finding is safer and faster.
A device for localization is known from US Pat. No. 4,782,238 of stickers and windows known to the Post good surface alternately from two different rich is illuminated at a flat angle. Doing so a sepa under lighting from one of the directions rates image of the surface of postal items. Because the stickers and address window vertically from the rest of the surface sets and form edges with it, which the light under the Different lighting directions reflect differently animals, the edges can be formed by forming a difference between determined the pictures and thus localized the address areas become. Disadvantages of this device result from the fact that the difference value formation a very precise setting of the Scanner, an exact image synchronization and a high Require effort in image evaluation.
The object of the present invention is to improve the State of the art. In particular, a procedure should be given ben with which the edges of the Corresponding well-defined pattern is formed can be. In contrast to the cited prior art requires the inventive method for solving the above. Task no difference between two under under pictures taken in different directions of illumination, so that for image acquisition also very fast and high resolution Diode scanners can be used and the speed speed of the mail for scanning does not have to be reduced. The object is achieved by the features of Claim 1 solved. Further advantageous versions of the Invention can be found in the subclaims.
In the following the invention with reference to drawings explained in more detail.

Fig. 1 shows the schematic diagram of a scanning configuration for the address area localization for a letter 1 , which is transported along a (not shown) conveying route and thereby passes through a slot backdrop, behind which a line camera 2 is positioned for image recording of the letter surface. For alternately illuminating the letter surface at a flat angle of incidence, two identical lighting units 3 and 4 are arranged in a plane above the letter.
Fig. 2 shows an advantageous arrangement in top view, in which the lighting units 3 and 4 against each other form an angle of 180 ° and the light is directed approximately along a diagonal of the rectangular Adreßaufklebers.
For example, LED rows, Laser diodes or lasers with optics for slit lighting ver be applied.
As has already been stated in US Pat. No. 4,782,238, when the letter surface is illuminated from the side at a flat angle, edges which fall off from the light source cast a shadow, while rising edges show a greater contrast with respect to the rest of the surface. In the case of stickers, the falling side is regularly further away from the light source than the rising, while in the case of windows the falling edge is closer to the light source than the rising. As illustrated in FIGS . 3a to c for a letter with a sticker, one obtains strong shadow formation when illuminated from obliquely left on the right-hand sticker edge and a corresponding shadow formation when illuminated from obliquely right on the left-hand edge. A diagonal direction of the lighting in relation to the address label is advantageous since only the orthogonal projection of the edges to the direction of incidence of the light contributes to the formation of shadows.
As shown in Figs. 3b and c, only the shadow areas under the two different lights are significantly different. A similar, but weaker effect occurs due to the increase in contrast at edges rising from the light source. This would make it possible to take two complete pictures of the letter with different lighting and to extract the edge areas by comparing the pictures. In accordance with the method according to the invention, a column-wise image of the letter surface is recorded with a line camera, the direction of illumination being changed for each column image. A column of the letter surface is shown in the exposure interval. Due to the continuous movement of the letter and the succession of exposure intervals, the images of the individual columns form an overall picture of the letter surface. Is z. B. for columns 1, 3, 5, 7 as in Fig. 2, the illumination from obliquely left and for columns 2, 4, 6, 8th . . the lighting from obliquely to the right, the area appears to the right of the right edge of a sticker in columns 1, 3, 5, 7,. . . dark and in columns 2, 4, 6, 8. . . bright, while the area to the left of the left edge of the sticker in columns 1, 3, 5, 7. . . bright and in columns 2, 4, 6, 8. . . appears dark. Each shadow area in this synchronized alternating lighting and column-wise scanning is therefore characterized by a light-dark-light pattern, while other structures of the letter surface (writing or graphics) do not have such a pattern. Fig. 4 shows a scanning image with the line scan synchronized alternie render lighting from two opposite directions. The enlarged corner section 5 of the shadow line generated by the sticker edges clearly shows the pattern structure of the shadow area.
. . , 2n bei Beleuchtung von rechts unten, die Spalte 2n+1, . . . , 3n bei Beleuchtung von links oben etc. abgetastet. In general, the method according to the invention also works if the change of the lighting direction after every n scanned columns. For example, the Column 1,. . . , n the column when illuminated from the top left n + 1,. . . , 2n when illuminated from the bottom right, the column 2n + 1,. . . , 3n scanned with illumination from top left etc.
When choosing the value n, it should be noted that the up wall for the lighting with increasing n decreases because then the Switching frequency for the lighting units decreases. Ande on the other hand, the effort for a reliable detection of the Streak areas with increasing n, because of its detection a certain minimum number of strips is required and the number of strips per millimeter as n increases decreases. Illumination, lighting cycle, column cycle, resolution Solution of the camera and evaluation method are therefore on top of each other vote.
Solche Strukturen sind sehr einfachThe structure characteristic of the shadow areas in a scan image is a sequence of dark white stripes with a well-defined stripe width. Such structures are very easy

The picture obtained after that contains the marked chats only very little by z. B. Creasing the paper gentle disturbance information. This can eliminate the latter be that through profiling or similar operations characteristic rectangular-like for stickers and windows areas are determined. The coordinates of these areas enable the localization of the address area.
