Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the use of mixtures of isomeric C 9 alkylphenols as chain breakers for the production of thermoplastic, aromatic polycarbonates.
Thanks to their favorable combination of properties, thermoplastic polycarbonates have a wide range of uses today. They are operated according to the two-phase interfaces or produced by melt condensation. In the molecular weight range between 15,000 and 30,000 (M w ) in particular, it has been shown that some of the properties can be improved by choosing a suitable molecular weight regulator. A number of polycarbonates are now known and are available according to the prior art.
Aus der DE-OS 28 42 005 sind Polycarbonate bekannt, die mit phenolischen Kettenabbrechern der Formel (I)From DE-OS 28 42 005 polycarbonates are known which with phenolic chain terminators of the formula (I)
hergestellt sind, worin R einen verzweigten Alkylrest aus 8 und/oder 9 C-Atomen darstellt, wobei im Alkylrest der Anteil an CH3-Protonen zwischen 47% und 89% und der Anteil der Summe der CH- und CH2-Protonen zwischen 53% und 11% liegen, und worin R in o- und/oder p- Stellung zur OH-Gruppe stehen kann, wobei die obere Grenze des ortho-Anteils bei 20% liegt.are produced, in which R represents a branched alkyl radical of 8 and / or 9 carbon atoms, the proportion of CH 3 protons in the alkyl radical between 47% and 89% and the proportion of the sum of the CH and CH 2 protons between 53 % and 11%, and where R can be in the o- and / or p-position to the OH group, the upper limit of the ortho portion being 20%.
On page 10 of DE-OS 28 42 005 it is stated that also mixtures of the chain terminators of the formula (I) can be used together.
Es wurde nun gefunden, daß Gemische von isomeren C9- Alkylphenolen, insbesondere der Formel (II)It has now been found that mixtures of isomeric C 9 alkylphenols, in particular of the formula (II)
HO-Ar-R¹ (II),HO-Ar-R¹ (II),
worin Ar für einen Phenylen-Rest steht und R1 einen Al kylrest aus 9 C-Atomen darstellt, wobei im Alkylrest R1 der Anteil an CH3-Protonen zwischen 62 bis 72% und der Anteil der Summe von CH- und CH2-Protonen zwischen 28 und 38% liegt und worin R¹ in o- und/oder p-Stellung zur OH-Gruppe stehen kann, wobei die obere Grenze des o-Anteils bei 10% liegt, als Kettenabbrecher für die Polycarbonatherstellung besonders geeignet sind.in which Ar represents a phenylene radical and R 1 represents an alkyl radical composed of 9 carbon atoms, the proportion of CH 3 protons in the alkyl radical R 1 being between 62 and 72% and the proportion of the sum of CH and CH 2 - Protons is between 28 and 38% and in which R¹ can be in the o- and / or p-position to the OH group, the upper limit of the o content being 10%, are particularly suitable as chain terminators for polycarbonate production.
The advantage of the use of the mixtures of the C 9 -alkylphenols according to the invention is, on the one hand, the easy dosability and, on the other hand, the economy of the preparation of the mixtures of the C 9 -alkylphenols.
Thermo produced with these chain terminator mixtures Plastic polycarbonates are therefore subject to less Viscosity fluctuations, this applies particularly to the Polycarbonate production after the two-phase interfaces method.
The polycarbonates produced according to the invention with the C 9 -alkylphenol mixtures in particular have a higher toughness than those which are produced with individual compounds of the formula (I) of DE-OS 28 42 005.
