Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a device for measuring the volume flow of flowing gaseous media with one side in the flow channel clamped optical fiber, a light source and a light receiver preferably for ventilation devices in medical technology.
Devices for measuring the volume flow of flowing gaseous Media of the type mentioned are already known. The is measured Deflection of the optical fiber under the pressure of the volume flow, namely either directly the elongation of the exit cross section of the optical fiber with a position-sensitive light receiver or indirectly in evaluation the intensity of the incidence of light, for example with the deflection increases.
For the special application in ventilation equipment shown that the low volume flows only with very sensitive Optical fibers are detectable. Due to the low spring stiffness superimposed on the volume flow-related deflections fiber vibrations, that falsify the measurement result. These disturbing fiber vibrations have two main causes. Once caused by current higher-frequency vibrations in the range of the natural frequency of the optical fiber and secondly low frequency vibrations due to movements of the Patient. The higher frequency vibrations can be with a low pass hide in a simple way. The low-frequency vibrations, however are in the order of magnitude of the frequency of the elongations to be measured. they strongly falsify the measurement result.
The known devices are so far poor in hygiene provisions in medical technology adapted. The through the necessary exact adjustment between the exit end of the optical fiber and the Constructive unit due to the light receiver has the consequence that the sensitive electronic unit again expensive after each application must be sterilized since it is too expensive as a disposable item.
The object of the invention is to provide the known devices for measuring the Volume flow with a one-sided clamped in the flow channel Optical fiber, a light source and a light receiver so change that they're much better at being used in a ventilator are adjusted.
According to the invention this object is achieved in that between the free oscillating end of the optical fiber and the light receiver Orifice is arranged, the edge of which is approximately perpendicular to the volume flow.
Two problems are solved with this aperture. Once all of outside, especially through patient movements, and not through the flow caused vibrations of the optical fiber parallel to its edge faded out and thus the influence of this interference signal significantly decreased. On the other hand, now only the exit end of the Optical fiber and the aperture are positioned exactly to each other and that is separated from in a simple component, preferably a tube the electronic components, easily possible. The pipe with Optical fiber and aperture is cheap and can be used after one application to be thrown away.
The effect of the aperture can be increased if its edge at a Ventilation device parallel to the main direction of movement of the patient is arranged. The patient lying on his back moves while breathing especially in the longitudinal direction of the body. At right angles he only moves in larger distances.
Possibly still disturbing low-frequency vibrations of the Optical fibers caused by patient movements can be eliminated be that parallel to the optical fiber acted upon by the volume flow and the aperture assigned to it, a second optical fiber and one parallel to the first second screen in a room with no flow to be ordered. The measured perpendicular to the edge of the aperture low-frequency vibrations of the second optical fiber result alone from patient movements. By subtracting the measurement signal with the signal measured at the second light receiver are the from Interference vibrations resulting errors compensated.
The tube with optical fiber and screen can be easily replaced, if it is from a bracket in which the light source, the light receiver and other electronic components, e.g. B. amplifier and low pass, are recorded. With a press on the clip it will used pipe immediately released and a new one can be used.
The screen is preferably applied as a chrome layer. That has two Advantages. In connection with a connection to a voltage source, the Aperture also act as a heating resistor and fogging the Prevent inner pipe wall. On the other hand, the aperture acts as a mirror. It can consequently also the reflecting light beam with an additional one Light receivers can be evaluated. The reflected signal can be used for Control of the heating and / or the intensity of the light source used will.
By preferably using a position sensitive diode as Light receiver, the dynamics of the measuring range can be increased significantly. For this purpose, it must be provided in terms of circuitry or programming that in Area of coverage between the optical fiber end and the aperture Intensity signal and also the position signal is evaluated. The high spatial resolution of the intensity signal measurement in one small elongation range is associated with measuring large elongations good accuracy (related to the final deflection). It is with it possible with the same light receiver, both smallest and to measure large volume flows precisely.
The size of the coverage between the end cross section of the optical fiber and the aperture can be selected depending on the task. At straight complete coverage would have the lowest volume flows Increase the intensity signal. Is the edge of the bezel in Seen flow direction, on the other hand clearly behind the final cross section, so required only a larger volume flow (a larger elongation of the Optical fiber) before the intensity signal changes. Should measured in both possible flow directions depending on the direction, two optical fibers and two position-sensitive diodes can be used offset arrangement can be provided side by side with respect to the aperture.
