Abstract
Description
For gases with large molecular weight it can be in gas-liquid systems men at high pressures that the density of the gas is just as great becomes like the density of the liquid (so-called barotropy). With further increase of the pressure, the gas becomes specifically heavier and sinks downward The liquid rises in the autoclave. The gas phase has ever but compared to the liquid, fewer particles in the unit volume, and it is the larger molecular weight that this volume unit makes heavier. Usually the solubility of the gases in the liquid is not large, and therefore it is enough, especially if the temperatures are not high are the density data of the corresponding gas and the corresponding Compare the fluid with each other as a function of pressure to find barotropic point. At normal temperatures come as rivers liquids z. B. water, ammonia, pentane or heptane in question. For a gas with a large molecular weight such as xenon, the barotropic point is rela tiv small pressures, for water xenon at 37 ° C this pressure is about 79 bar.
The barotropy, i.e. the reversal of the mass density of a gas in comparison to a liquid, is a common natural phenomenon that occurs in a Variety of mixtures can occur. But there is no exploitation of this phenomenon. The object of the invention is therefore that To use barotropy to separate gases.
In preliminary tests it was found that a mixture of gases looks like a gas with medium molecular weight behaves so that no independent Separation of a gas mixture occurs when one of these gases is already over is barotropic, but the others are not. It is therefore necessary that exploit different solubility of the gases. As a rule, it is the case that the gas with the greatest molecular weight also the greater solubilities in a liquid.
The method of the invention is to add a gas mixture so far compress that heavier gas with respect to the liquid already is overbarotropic. In addition, the solubility of this gas in the river be greater than the solubility of the other gases. It will now be one Supersaturation of the liquid with this gas produced by z. B. the Pressure is increased significantly beyond the already superbarotropic pressure.
If the pressure is now released to its previous value, it is Liquid oversaturated with the gas and the new gas phase separates itself out in the vessel because of its greater specific weight.
The method of the invention can also consist in that at a tem temperature, the heavy gas is preferably dissolved. This temperature now increased, so in most cases the solution is to this heavy gas oversaturated. The gas then separates out at the bottom.
The formation of gas hydrates can also be advantageously used, when water is the liquid used. These gas hydrates absorb in usually the gas with the larger molecular weight. Then you are often specifically heavier and sink down. When the gas hydrate melts, the superbarotropic gas is released and forms one in the bottom of the vessel second gas phase.
The advantages achieved by the invention are that compressed gas mixtures, which are relatively common in the art without the detour via thermal decomposition, only by application further compression energy can be separated. That is, he required energy expenditure is low and the equipment used easy.
The invention will now be illustrated using examples.
Fig. 1 shows the principle of the method in a static test. In Fig. 1a the gas mixture (G 1 and G 2 ) and the liquid (F) are enclosed in an autoclave at a certain pressure. In 1b, this is about barotropic gas (G 2 ) with residues of G 1 (G 2 + (G 1 )) at the bottom of the autoclave and from the light gas above, G 1 , with residues of G 2 (G 1 + (G 2 )) separated by the liquid. Between these states there was the step of dissolving the heavy gas in the liquid, or taking up the heavy gas in a gas hydrate or other solid and re-excreting this gas in the lower part of the autoclave.
Fig. 2 shows a continuous process. A mixture of a heavy gas G 2 and a light gas G 1 with a pressure which is greater than the barotropic pressure for G 2 is pressed into a vessel by a pump, so that the feed takes place in the zone of the liquid. In this liquid, the heavy gas is preferably dissolved and transported downward, for example, by convection, where conditions are generated, for example by temperature change, in which the liquid is supersaturated with gas G 2 . G 2 is now eliminated and is continuously subtracted. The light gas G 1 has passed the liquid column inside the autoclave, has separated at the top and is also continuously removed. As a rule, G 1 and G 2 2 will not be present in this first step, but will be contaminated with a residual content of the other gas. This is indicated in the drawing by the symbols in brackets. In general, the temperature T 1 will be lower than T 2 , so that the solubility of G 2 is higher at the lower temperature and the heavier solution will decrease.
In the event that the separation is not completely complete, a cascade can be made, which is sketched in Fig. 3 for a simple case. The gas G 2 still contaminated with G 1 is drawn off at the bottom and processed in a further separation vessel. The procedure is analogous to the gas G 2 contaminated by G 1 . Depending on the effectiveness of the separation process, it may be advantageous to re-feed the gases separated in the second step in the upper apparatus at the bottom and in the lower apparatus at the top into the apparatus of the first step, which is indicated in Fig. 3 by dashed arrows .
