Description
Procedure for opening up chrome iron stone. It was found, that Chronieisenstein, which is known to be difficult to attack by acids, Relatively easy to open up on Bassein ways if one has a pretreatment with hydrogen or other reducing agents, primarily containing hydrogen Gases in the heat, expediently with weak red heat, subjected. So treated Chroineise.ils-tein works with strong nitric or other acids in a relatively short "time practically completely in Lösulig.
The pretreatment of finite hydrogen or other reducing gases can generally be of short duration. Thereby it is not necessary to reduce the chroineiseusteitis as far as possible, but the temperature is important. The most favorable temperature is usually around 500 ° C. B. Chronicisenstein pre-treated with hydrogen at 700 ° is reduced considerably more than one pre-treated at 500 °, but is attacked much more slowly by nitric acid. The concentration. the nitric acid has a comparatively little influence on the speed of the digestion. It is advisable to use acid with the highest boiling point, i.e. from about 0o to 68 percent.
It is true that there is already a process for extracting Chroinioxvd from Chromium iron stone described, in which the ore was initially in a Hydrogen or water gas atmosphere heated to bright red heat and then in acid is entered. Here (read metallic iron, which in #ler reducing Treatment from because Chronieisenstein originated, together with the magnesium go into solution and remain highly insoluble chromium oxide. The present The process, on the other hand, aims at the complete disclosure of the cast iron part. When treating finite acids should not only include iron and ltaguesiuni, but especially the chromium will go into solution. This will now become more true Invention achieved in that inan in the pretreatment of the chrome iron stone with hydrogen or other reducing agents, primarily containing hydrogen, i Do not gas to light '-', tJg-lr, + er 'fitzt, so a more moderate temperature is required complies with, whose C) ptimitni for most ore types at the beginning of Potgltit, i.e. approximately. is at 5oo`. The new digestion process is therefore not based on reduction of iron oxide to metallic iron.
Since the C hroni in the cooking liquor is not only in the form of chromium nitrate, but, as has been observed, due to the oxidizing action of nitric acid found to be more than 50 percent as chromic acid, the rate of dissolution decreases nasty chromeiselisteins in nitric acid during the smell autocatalytic to. The nitric acid to be used for the digestion therefore advantageously becomes a part added to the cooking liquor from an earlier digestion so that the solvent can be removed from the start eiii contains chromic acid. It is noteworthy that this makes the the Pre-treatment with hydrogen-induced activation of the chrome iron stone does not reversed.
Since it is particularly desirable during digestion to utilize the nitric acid as far as possible in a short time, it is advisable to use an excess of chrome iron stone, which accelerates the deposition of the nitric acid. Example. foo kg of finely powdered chrome iron stone "earth" / Z heated to 50 ° C. for up to one hour in a stream of hydrogen and then added to .t4o kg of 68 percent nitric acid. The solution is heated to a gentle boil on the reflux condenser, if necessary using a stirrer, for 20 to 30 hours, or even a shorter time if the grinding is very fine. The nitrous gases that develop can be converted back into nitric acid in a known manner by oxidation with air and absorption in water, if necessary by feeding into an absorption system operated for another production, for which they are well suited due to their high concentration. You can also absorb them with bases or other: means. By blowing air into the reflux condenser, which is expediently packed with packing, the nitrogen oxides in the dies can be converted directly back into nitric acid and the latter can be allowed to flow back into the boiling solution. About 60 kg of the chrome iron stone go into solution. Then about ° 1o of the hot cooking liquor is removed from the undissolved residue, whereupon the latter is used for a new approach with the rest of the solution after adding the chrome iron stone and nitric acid to the originally applied I-Tengen. From time to time, when insoluble gangue has accumulated to a significant extent in the residue, the residue is removed.
The deep dark red solution obtained during the digestion, which in the main Chromium nitrate, iron nitrate and chromic acid in addition to some unused nitric acid can be further processed in any way. The chromic acid leaves by reducing agents, e.g. B. by introducing nitrogen oxide-containing gases, easily reduce to chromium salt, and a solution can be obtained from this which crystallize out chromium nitrate and ferric nitrate even with a slight cooling.
Instead of nitric acid one can, albeit generally a little less cheap, also use other acids or acid mixtures.
