Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a solid-state laser system according to the gate term of claim 1.
Such a system consists of an elek tronic power supply and control circuit, a cooling facility for Laser diode and optionally for the laser crystal and other opti components as well as mechanical mounting, adjustment and control devices directions. The laser diode pumped solid state lasers according to the state of the Technology consist of at least two spatially separated Units, namely an electronic supply and control unit and an optical head with associated mechanical devices. The electronic supply and control section consists of discretely built electronic elements, the optical head has typical dimensions solutions of 100 mm x 50 mm x 50 mm.
Determining the size of the optical head are not important here noticeably the optical elements, which are manufactured much smaller could be, but rather compared to the dimensions of the opti elements quite macroscopic, mechanical adjustment and adjustment elements. The size of the electronics is essentially determined by a lack of system-specific integrated electronic components.
The present invention has for its object a diode pump tes solid-state laser system of the type mentioned to create that significantly miniaturized and in its application possibilities slight variation of its components or its high flexibility is optimized with regard to the application specifications.
B. Peltier- Elemente geschehen. Fig. 1 shows the basic structure of a microsystem solid-state laser 10 , as provided by the invention in its basic concept. On a base chip 11 made of silicon, gallium arsenide, ceramic, or the like is a pumping light semiconductor laser diode 12 in such a way assembled that the radiation of the pumping light diode is focused 12 via a suitable optical system 13 to a laser crystal 14 that this optically excited in nerhalb a resonator , which is monolithically vapor-deposited on the laser crystal in the embodiment shown, in turn emits laser radiation. Part of the laser radiation is registered via a beam splitter 15 on a radiation detector 16 mounted on the base chip 11 , the electrical signal of the same is passed to a control electronics circuit 17 , which evaluates this signal and in turn carries out a current control of the laser diode. Cooling channels 20 can be located within the base chip 11 , which cool both the laser diode 12 and the laser crystal 14 . In particular, the semiconductor laser diode 12 must be kept at a constant temperature, since this is used to determine its emission wavelength, which in turn is to be kept within strictly defined limits for an optimal pumping process. The control of the coolant flow is preferably micromechanical, the electrical impulses required to control the mechanics being supplied by the control electronics or their microprocessor 17 . Mirrors, optics or other elements - not outlined here - can also be manipulated micromechanically. The cooling can also be carried out by suitable other elements, such as. B. Peltier elements happen.
By arranging further or by special shaping other "Intra-Ca vity elements "it is now possible to hybridize to those as described above built solid-state lasers the desired application specification NEN adapt, as explained below in some embodiments is tert.
The embodiment shown in Fig. 2a illustrates an integrated on the base chip 11 , provided with a heat sink 18 , laser diode 12 which pumps a Laserkri stall 14 via a collimation and focus optics 13 . Are on this laser crystal 14, the two mirrors layers deposited monolithically on both sides - as has already been proposed by the applicant - and the laser crystal has a thickness of typically <1 mm, so that only a single one in this so formed resonator Can form resonator mode, so the excited laser crystal leads to single-frequency radiation. Part of the emitted radiation is coupled out of the output radiation via the beam splitter 15 (beam splitter) and its intensity is measured via a photo diode 16 . A partial beam coupled out of this measuring beam by means of the mirror 15 a passes through a Fabry-Perot interferometer 21 , at the end of which a photodiode 22 is also attached. In this way, the control electronics (μP) 17 receive information about the intensity of the laser radiation as well as about the spectral position of the output radiation with respect to a resonant reference resonator 21 . In this and the other figures shown in the drawings, the exact control of the laser diode and the coolant flow 18 , 19 , 20 is not sketched out for reasons of clarity.
The Fig. 2b illustrates a somewhat more advanced configuration. The Mi microcrystalline laser 14 is provided with a one-sided steamed Laserkri stall, which - separated by a gap 14 s - a movably mounted glass mirror 23 is assigned. The resonator mode can be changed and the frequency of the laser can be adjusted by adjusting the position of the mirror 23 accordingly. If here the mirror 23 is formed by a non-linear, frequency-doubling crystal, one side of which carries the laser mirror layer 23 ', the possibility is created, frequency doubling the basic wavelength of the laser radiation or by mixing the basic wavelength with the pump light wavelength by means of sum frequency generation Obtain laser radiation in the visible range.
Fig. 3 illustrates a further embodiment in which, single-frequency laser operation is achieved in that the laser crystal 114 is formed so that an annular resonator mode is formed, which is unidirectionally selected by further "intracavity elements" 114a . This resonator also emits natural frequency radiation, but can be optically excited by the arrangement of a plurality of laser diodes 112 , 112 ', 112 ''and correspondingly a plurality of pumping light optics 113 , 113 ', 113 '', so that overall a higher laser beam output power is available . Analogous to the exemplary embodiment according to FIGS. 2a and 2b, part of the laser radiation is coupled out via a beam plate 115 , this part beam in turn divided into a photodiode 116 and a Fabry-Perot interferometer 121 . A photodiode 122 is also arranged at the output of the last one. Here, too, the photodiodes 116 , 122 give the control electronics 117 information about the output power and frequency of the laser.
Another embodiment is outlined in FIG. 4. By a bring other elements in a resonator which is crystal, which is excited by a laser diode 212 via a pump light optical system 213 is collinear with the laser radiation from a laser 214 and two quarter-wave plate 225 composed, these platelets select 225 the propagating in the crystal Mode such that, together with a Brewster polarizer 226 , only a single longitudinal mo de forms within the resonator formed by the plate 225 and the Auskop pelspiegel 227 . The mirror is monolithically evaporated onto the first four-wave plate 225 , the second mirror 227 can be moved piezoelectrically or analogously mechanically for frequency tuning. The procedure of output power and frequency tuning is analogous to the previous explanations.
In Fig. 5, the resonator quality is periodically switched by a quality switch 328 introduced by the mirrors 325 and 327 th resonator, so that very high laser pulse powers are produced by storing the pump light energy with permeability of the quality switch 328 . This Q-switch 328 can consist of electro-optical material as well as acousto-optical or micromechanical devices. A nonlinear crystal 329 which is optionally introduced into the resonator here leads to a very efficient frequency doubling or mixing.
An exemplary embodiment with which laser light pulses are generated and the pulse shape of the laser can be modified very precisely is illustrated in FIG. 6. A solid-state laser consisting of a coupling mirror 425 applied monolithically on the laser crystal 414 and an externally attached coupling mirror 427 , optically pumped via a Laser diode 412 by means of collimation and focusing optics 413 is additionally pumped transversely by a laser diode array 430 . Here, the laser diode 413 and the diodes of the laser array 430 are driven so that the laser diode 413 emits a continuous pumping power of such intensity that the solid-state laser is operated at the so-called laser threshold. The output power is minimal in this case, but a very stable pulse operation is formed when the array 430 is periodically activated in pulse form.
FIG. 7 shows an exemplary embodiment for the optical excitation of a solid-state laser 514 , in which an array 530 consisting of a plurality of laser diodes is pumped. The pump light power is coupled into the collimation and focusing optics 513 via a pump light integration element 531 . This pump light integration element 531 can be formed both from a plurality of adjusted glass fiber pieces 515 and from an integrated waveguide.
The measures proposed here create the possibility solid-state laser systems with application-specific laser properties miniaturize very largely, because all elements of the Solid state laser systems, optics, mechanics and electronics are hy brid built on a single base chip. Such a trained one Microsystem solid-state laser forms an intelligent sensor complementary intelligent transmitter, which not only previous measuring systems strongly miniaturized, but due to its compactness and integra degree of completely new sensor and measuring arrangements are, for example for military and civil measurement technology, as also the use of such new laser systems in display systems and in consumer electronics.
