Description

Process for increasing the degree of hardness of hardened rolling bearing parts. It is known to harden the parts of rolling bearings, ball or roller bearings in order to to give the rolling elements and raceways the highest possible strength. Further it is known that the raceways on ball and roller bearings by pressing and pressing to compact before hardening. The invention aims to increase this hardness even further increase, this is done by the fact that the parts of the rolling bearings, which in in a manner known per se by heating to hardening temperature and subsequent cooling have been hardened, are subjected to mechanical cold working in such a way that that the elastic limit of the hardened steel is exceeded so far that a permanent deformation at least in the vicinity of the surface of the rolling bearing parts entry. This makes it possible to manufacture rolling bearings that are subject to the highest loads have grown.

The cold working of metals, especially steel, according to previous Hardening by heating and quenching is known per se, but this has been done Method so far only applied to relatively thin steel objects, for example Scythes or wire, because it was assumed that they were thick steel objects not endure such cold finishing without disadvantages. It was found, that this view is erroneous and that the increase in the degree of hardness of already Hardened parts of rolling bearings is quite possible if you do this cold working limited to that generated by exceeding the elastic limit permanent deformation at least in the vicinity of the surface of the rolling bearing parts is achieved.

The method can be carried out in such a way that a completed Rolling bearings for a certain time with a normal load that far exceeds Overload is made to spin that material on or near the running surface of the rolling elements is permanently deformed. But it is also possible to over-harden the races by machining them with special ones, according to the profile of the raceways formed rollers can rotate under considerable overload. The particularly hardened tracks or surfaces of the rolling bearing parts can then be ground and polished in a known manner, but this processing step can also take place before cold post-processing.

The process is therefore very special for rolling bearing parts Advantage because the aforementioned deformation increases the elasticity of these parts which is of particular importance for rolling bearings. 'The through the deformation Stress that has arisen in the rolling bearing parts can be used in a known manner, for example by heating, can be eliminated again.
