Description
Process for converting the hydrophobic surface of solids into a hydrophilic.
It is known that solids can be used depending on their behavior Surface water is divided into hydrophobic, i.e. H. those that are difficult let water wet, and hydrophilic, d. Ii. those that get away from the water easily are wetted. Because on the one hand technology makes use of the behavior of the surface solid substances compared to water, such as B. in the swimming pool, on the other hand this behavior can cause disruptions, such as B. in sludge processing, in that hydrophobic substances flocculate in water and so only very imperfect Form suspensions, or such. B. in ceramics in that the difficult to wet Grain of a refractory or abrasive material has opposite surface properties like the other components (clay and feldspar or the like) and so the evenness and plasticity of the cup is impaired, a process is desired that allows to convert hydrophobic surfaces into hydrophilic ones.
Dieses Verfahren ist der Gegenstand vorliegender Erfindung. This method is the subject of the present invention.
Brownstone is an extremely hydrophilic substance and its accumulation on the surface of hydrophobic substances converts them into hydrophilic ones. This attachment but works easily with the use of potassium permanganate or some other brownstone separating manganese salt. In many cases it is sufficient to use the hydrophobic substance a solution of potassium permanganate. However, they are by no means reducing Medium, such as B. dust, organic impurities, traces of fat or the like, present, or does not exercise the surface of the solid material in and of itself, such as e.g. B. at Coal, a reducing effect on the manganese salt solution, so that therefore a decrease the concentration of manganese salt by changing the color of the solution does not is found, one adds to the hydrophobic substance itself or its watery Slurry any organic or inorganic before adding the manganese salt solution reducing agents too, e.g. B. alcohol o. The like. There are already small amounts of this Substances sufficient, as there is already an extremely small coating of brownstone on the The surface of the hydrophobic substance is sufficient to convert it into a hydrophilic one. The amount of the manganese salt depends on the amount of the hydrophobic substance.
Examples: I. Charcoal is a hydrophobic substance; should do the same converted into a hydrophilic by the method according to the invention, so stirred For every 1 kg of coal it is best to use the Alarme äl me with 1 g of permanganate or one other manganese salt that splits off manganese dioxide. that is dissolved in so much mass, that there is no supernatant liquid. After intimate mixing, the Coal can be used either wet or dried: graphite one proceeds in the same way.
2. Sulfidische Mineralien, wie z. B. Bleiglanz, Zinkblende o. dgl., sind ebenfalls hydrophob. 2. Sulphidic minerals, such as. B. galena, zinc blende or the like, are also hydrophobic.
For the deposition of the bydrophilic brownstone their The surface becomes the same with water, which is used to reduce the manganese salt necessary amount of any reducing agent has been added to a pulp mixed, then the manganese salt solution - about 1 g of salt per 1 kg of processed material - Allowed to flow in and continue to stir until the solution is decolorized; as a reducing The most beneficial agent is alcohol because this is the wetting of the hydrophobic Substances extremely favored when mixed with wet.
Artificial corundum used as a grinding compound and highly refractory material Is used is also hydrophobic. The one described under Example 2 Treatment also converts it into a hydrophilic substance.
4. A strongly hydrophobic substance is sulfur bloom. Also their conversion into a hydrophilic substance can easily be achieved by the method described in Example 2 Way of treatment. Here, however, alcohol is a necessity as a reducing agent. because when using aqueous reducing agents a complete wetting of the individual Particles with the manganese salt solution causes extraordinary difficulties.
