Abstract
Description
The invention relates primarily to a method for measuring the liquid content of closed liquid tanks, in particular fuel tanks in motor vehicles, in which Tank above the liquid level one of the size of the liquid is dependent on the volume of gas present, whereby by Pumping and letting a gas flow out the gas pressure in the gas volume at intervals between given low and higher pressure values changed for the pressure change measures the required time, the gas volume from the measured time and from this again taking into account the total tank volume determines the liquid content of the tank. Farther The invention relates to a device for carrying out a such procedure.
Such a method with a device for its passage leadership is known from DE-OS 19 31 583. You increase it the pressure in the gas volume by pumping gas from one never their to a higher value and measure the necessary for this Time. Then you let the gas out of the Gas volume until the low pressure value is reached again emanate and repeat this process periodically or in required intervals.
A hitherto unresolved problem with this measuring method exists in that the gas is relatively slow in the gas volume can be pumped in, so that until the higher one is reached Time that elapses and the pressure to be measured is proportional is long. During this long period, however, that changes Temperature of the pumped gas and thereby falsifies the Time measurement because the increasing pressure is not only on the supplied gas, but also on its thermal expansion goes back.
It is an object of the invention, a generic method and a device suitable for its implementation sern that temperature influences in the measurement in a simple manner are practically turned off.
To solve this problem, the generic method proposed according to the invention that after reaching the higher pressure value by pumping gas into the gas volume measures the time until the low pressure is reached value by letting the gas flow out of the gas volume strokes, and this total time is less than about 2 seconds holds so that temperature influences on the gas volume are not disturbing noticeable.
It has been found that such a rapid, in particular outflow of gas in seconds and through the resultant reduction in pressure from the the higher to the lower pressure value the measurement result by Tempe influences are not practically influenced.
A device for performing the method according to the invention rens with a pump connected to the gas volume, with a a controllable valve containing, connected to the gas volume its discharge line, with which to discharge the pressure in the gas volume pressure sensor and with a display electronic evaluation device is characterized by a on the one hand with the pressure meter and on the other hand with the evaluation device connected, integrated microcomputer, which in Dependency on the liquid measured beforehand the higher and lower pressure values and their Difference determined so that the pressure equalization between the higher and lower pressure value by letting the Gases required time less than about 2 seconds, preferably less than about 1 or 0.5 seconds. is.
The following description of a preferred embodiment the invention serves in connection with the attached drawing, on which a device for measuring the liquid content a fuel tank is shown, the further explanation.
In the drawing, a closed fuel tank 1 of a motor vehicle is shown, which is partially filled with fuel 2 ge. Above the level of the liquid fuel 2 there is a certain gas volume 3 , in particular Luftvo lumen, the size of which depends on the amount or level of the fuel 2 : the larger the amount of fuel 2 , the smaller the gas volume 3 and vice versa, so that the measurement of the gas volume 3 also provides a measure of the amount of fuel 2 .
With the gas volume 3 is a pressure sensor 4, preferably a piezoelectric pressure sensor or the like, connected, by means of which the respectively prevailing in the gas volume 3 gas pressure in a simple manner can be measured. This pressure is normally at a relatively low value p o , for example atmospheric pressure or slightly above. Via a feed line 5 , a pump 6 with suction port 7 is connected to the gas volume 3 , with the aid of which gas, for example air, can be pumped into the gas volume 3 , so that the pressure p o rises to a value p 1 likewise measured by the pressure sensor 4 , wherein the pressure difference can be, for example, between about 10 and 50 mbar. The tank 1 also has an outflow line 8 connected to the gas volume 3 with a controllable valve 9 , the outlet connection 11 of which preferably opens into the atmosphere or - in particular in the case of fuel tanks - into a special chamber.
A microcomputer 12 known per se is connected via a line 13 on the one hand to the pressure sensor 4 and via a line 14 on the other hand to a known electronic evaluation device 15 with a display instrument 16 . The Mikrocompu ter 12 is equipped in a known manner with an analog-digital converter and / or a counter and a timer. Via lines 17 , 18 , the microcomputer 12 also controls the switching on and off of the pump 6 or the switching of the valve 9 , which is preferably designed as a simple flap valve, and therefore opens quickly and, in the open state, has a very low flow resistance compared to that Total flow resistance of the discharge line 8 has.
Obviously, starting from the lower pressure value p o until the higher pressure value p 1 is reached, the greater the volume, the more gas (air) has to be pumped into the volume 3 . If you now let the pumped-in air flow out again through the discharge line 8 with the valve 9 open and thereby carry out a pressure equalization from the value p 1 to the value p o , the greater the gas volume 3 or the lower the, the longer this is required Level of liquid 2 in tank 1 is. The time required for pressure equalization p 1 l-p o is therefore a measure of the liquid content of the tank.
The pressure of the gas volume 3 sensed by the pressure sensor 4 in the evaluation device 15 is checked via the lines 13 and 14 and the time required for the pressure compensation p 1 -p o is measured, which is then displayed by the display instrument 16 . The display instrument 16 is directly calibrated in level units, so that it indicates the liquid content of the tank 1 directly. The measurement described is repeated at the same or different time intervals, so that the instrument 16 can permanently display the respective liquid content of the tank 1 .
Since the pump 6 is designed to be relatively small, considerable time passes, especially when the gas volume 3 is large, ie the liquid content 2 is small, until a certain pressure p 1 in the gas volume 3 is reached. During this time, the pressure of the gas in the volume 3 can change due to thermal influences, so that the pressure value supplied by the pressure sensor 4 depends not only on the gas pumped in via the pump 6 , but also on the temperature in the vicinity of the tank 1 and the Measurement can be falsified as a result. In order to arrive at precise, temperature-independent measurements, the invention does not measure the relatively long time within which a certain pressure has been reached under the action of the pump 6 in the gas volume 3 , but rather the time within which the pumped-in gas again Volume 3 flows out and the pressure drops from the higher to the lower pressure value. This time can easily be kept very short by appropriate dimensioning of the cross-section of the outflow line 8 and corresponding choice of the lower and higher pressure values p o or p 1 , so that thermal influences can practically not influence the pressure of the gas in the volume 3 within this short time . It has been found that the time required for the gas to flow out of the gas volume 3 is less than about 2 seconds, preferably less than 1 or even 0.5 seconds. should be to exclude temperature influences, such as those prevailing in the tank or in its vicinity. However, times greater than 2 seconds may also occur. into question if only the thermal effects mentioned can be switched off.
In the device shown in the drawing, the microcomputer 12 takes into account the previously measured liquid content and determines the pressure values p 1 and p o therefrom , between which the gas flows out via the flow line 8 . If, with a relatively large liquid content 2, the gas volume 3 is relatively small, the pressure difference p 1 -p o is kept relatively large by the microcomputer 12 within a given range of, for example, 10 to 50 mbar. If, on the other hand, the gas volume is relatively large with a relatively small liquid content 2 , a smaller pressure difference p 1 -p o is selected by the microcomputer 12 , so that in any case the pressure equalization between p 1 and p o in the desired short time, for example within 2 sec., he follows.
The microcomputer 12 switches off the pump 6 via the line 17 during the time measurement process and opens the valve 9 via the line 18 . Between the time measurement processes, the microcomputer 12 switches the pump 6 on and closes the valve 9 .
In another embodiment of the invention, the pump 6 can also be replaced by a valve controlled via the line 17 if the line 5 is connected directly to a compressed gas line, for example the exhaust line of a motor vehicle, or to a compressed gas container.
The tank content measurement proposed according to the invention is suitable especially for liquid tanks with geometrically irregular Forms such as those recently used for fuel tanks in motor vehicles occur when the tank is also in smaller, angled cavities the vehicle body is to be expanded, so that To make the tank capacity as large as possible.
Because of the small pressure difference p 1 -p o , the method according to the invention has the advantage that very little fuel vapor escapes via the outflow line 8 . On the other hand, due to the shortness of the measuring time used, the fuel consumption (by a motor connected to the tank 1 or by the outgassing of a gaseous component dissolved in the fuel) is negligible during the measurement.
