relativen Strahlungsflußdichte in elektromagnetischen Strahlen
insbesondere zur Bestimmung des Radius Gaußscher Laserstrahlen
und verschiedene Vorrichtungen zur Durchführung des Verfahrens. The invention relates to a method for examining the
relative radiation flux density in electromagnetic radiation
especially for determining the radius of Gaussian laser beams
and various devices for performing the method.
te Strahlungsfluß gemessen, der dynamische Bereich muß also
Strahles reichen. Besonders kleine Strahlradien erreicht man
mit Laserlicht, deren Strahlprofil häufig ein sog. Gaußpro
fil aufweist.
Kante registriert (knife-edge Verfahren) (J.M. Kosrofian
and B.A. Garetz, Appl. Opt. 22 (1983) pp 3406-3410; D.K.
Cohen, B. Little, and F.S. Luecke, Appl. Opt. 23(1984)
pp 637-640). Anstatt der Kante kann auch ein Spalt
(R.L. McCally, Appl. Opt. 23 (1984) p 2227) oder ein Gitter
(Ronchi - Gitter) verwendet werden, (J.M. Kosrofian and B.A.
Garetz, Appl. Opt. 22 (1983) pp 3406-3410; M.A. Karim,
A.A.S. Awwal, A.M. Nasiruddin, A. Basit, D.S. Vedak, C.C.
Smith, and C.D. Miller, Opt. Lett. 12 (1987) pp 93-95).
Cohen, B. Little, and F.S. Luecke,
Appl. Opt. 23 (1984) pp 637-640; S. Kimura and C. Munakata,
Opt. Lett. 12 (1987) pp 552-554).
Vehara and H. Kikuchi, Appl. Opt. 25 (1986) pp 4514-2473),
auch Gitter können eingesetzt werden, (M.T. Gale and
H. Meier, RCA Rev. 46 (1985). Allen diesen Verfahren gemeinsam
Different methods are known for the radiation flow

According to the invention the object is achieved in that a scattering surface is brought into the electromagnetic beam. The electromagnetic beam and the scattering surface move relative to each other. The scattering property of the scattering area has a statistical spatial dependence on (eg due flächenrauigkeiten of Ober, thicknesses - or Brechzahlinhomogenitäten). The radiation flux density of the rays to be examined is location-dependent. If the scattering surface moves relative to the beam, the strength of the scattering radiation changes due to the spatial dependence of the radiation flux density of the incident beam. The gradient of this change depends on the relative speed of the scattering surface and the radiation flux density distribution of the beam to be examined. Since the scattering properties of the scattering surface are statistical in nature, the fluctuations in the scattering radiation are also statistical. The temporal behavior of these fluctuations can be examined using known statistical methods (measuring the time auto-correlation function, structure function, etc.). The distribution of the radiation flux density can be concluded from the measurement of this time dependency and the knowledge of the relative speed. It is recommended to choose a version according to claim 3 as the spreading surface.
lichtes, so hat diese die FormThe application of the invention for measuring the waist radius of Gaussian coherent rays (focus radius) is particularly simple. One selects one of the configurations shown in FIGS . 1 to 3, wherein the scattering surface, which may be a scattering surface according to claims 1 to 6, is brought approximately to the location of the waist. The scattered light optics (for example the diameter of the diaphragms delimiting the scattered light bundle) is selected such that scattered light falls on the detector as far as possible from the entire area illuminated by the beam on the scattered surface. The opening angle is chosen so that scattered light from approximately a coherence volume is analyzed. If one measures the time auto-correlation function G ( τ ) of the scattered light, it has the form
stehen, also in der Strahlentaille. Die theoretische Begründung
hiefür findet sich bei T.W. Taylor und Ch.M. Sorensen, Appl.
Opt.
der Streufläche.where v is the relative speed between light beam and scattering surface, w is the waist radius and τ is time. A and B are constants. If v is known, the waist radius w can easily be determined from this equation. Here, w is not the beam radius at the location of the scattering surface, but at the location where the wave fronts are perpendicular to the direction of propagation, i.e. in the beam waist. The theoretical justification for this can be found in TW Taylor and Ch.M. Sorensen, Appl. Opt. (1986) 25, pp 2421-2426, which is applied here according to the invention to the measurement of the beam waist with the described method. The accuracy of the method depends primarily on the accuracy of the measurement of the time auto-correlation function. The method has a wide dynamic range. Very small beam radii can be measured (in the sub mycron range) or much larger ones. The speed of the scattering surface can also be measured according to claim 11 using this method. To do this, the time auto-correction function only needs to be measured over a period of the order of one revolution of the scattering surface. Since after one revolution the same area of the scattering surface enters the electromagnetic beam, the correlation function is periodically equal to 1 / frequency of the scattering surface with the period.
Will man den
According to the invention, the method can also be used to measure the beam
radius at the location of the spreading surface if the
incoherent scattered radiation is analyzed. Then there is none
Interference effects in the scattered light between areas caused by
different areas of the beam are hit,
there, the curvature of the wave fronts does not matter and
the measurement gives the local beam radius. Do you want that
